i still can't understand the problem 64-bit is trying to solve. I mean if you like less games and apps to run, great...I guess? I still enjoy Half Life and Portal.

I am still quit miffed that Apple pretty much EOL'd 90% of my games in my purchased library whenever they pulled the whole anti-32-bit thing. 1st gen iPads might as well be running Chevy Vegas with how rare they are.

The Oregon Trail is available now. It requires a gaming computer.
That is insane for an old computer game that can play on an iPhone/iPad with a subscription to Apple Arcade.
Mom's Dell PC is 32-bit because it came with Vista 32-bit, which is running Windows 7 32-bit now.
Going 64-bit would require a new install and I'm not willing to do that, plus the machine is from 2008.
I'm my opinion and knowledge base, can't see the need to go 64-bit except on the M1 iPads, which have 8 or 16 GB RAM. I also think that much power is going to waste on a tablet.
I use to love Microsoft Flight, but it too requires a powerful gaming computer.
Oh, I've returned to Windows 10 from 11. Windows 11 was annoying and 10 is still good for almost 3 more years.
I'm also seeing no benefit to Android 12.

Returned my iPad pro 12.9 and took a gamble and bought the Samsung S8 tab Ultra with the keyboard. Wow. Awesome tablet. Amazing 14.6 OLED display that is an absolute beast when it comes to watching media. Love how it's a 16:10 aspect ratio instead of 4:3 like the iPad so there aren't those huge black bars when watching movies etc.

As for the keyboard, Apple's magic keyboard is better made but I still prefer the Samsung one since it has a larger trackpad and can detach.

I hold my tablet in my hand, so I don't want something bigger and heavier than my Nokia T20. Even my 10.2 iPad is too fat and heavy. The aspect ratio is dumb on iPad.
My T20 is 1200*2000, which seems to translate to something a little different than 16:10. I think my Samsung Galaxy Tab A is 16:9. Also a 10 inch tablet.
I can hold it in one hand with room to spare. Nokia, is a little wider and the iPad is too fat. I prefer a tall and slender tablet.
EDIT: My Samsung is 16:10. Guess my Nokia bezel is bigger.

I have both, and the S8 Ultra is definitely the better media device. The S8 Ultra with the keyboard, feels more like a laptop with an amazing display. The IPP 12.9 with the keyboard, feels like a iPad with a mini keyboard attachment. I like them both though, they are just different.

Samsung tabs are fairly nice but I can't deny the fact that the iPad is =just so much better than it. Love it a lot. much much more convenience with those.

It all depends on what your preference is. If you lean towards iOS then the iPad might be the better choice for you. I have owned pretty much every iPad made starting with the iPad 2. I also own a Galaxy Tab S7+ so I decided to try the M2 12.9” iPad Pro. As far as on screen smoothness, they are on equal terms. They are both very smooth and the S7+ with its amazing OLED display does not suffer from blooming like the Pro with its Mini LED display. Comparing build quality, both are aesthetically pleasing with a full aluminum body. In fact if you didn’t know any better, one my think, Apple designed the Galaxy Tab S7+.

I also much prefer Chrome over Safari. The Galaxy Tab S7+ has a great keyboard with a numbers row as well as DEL and Backspace keys. It lessens the frustrations when typing. I use both and both are nice tablets.

I have an iPad and a Tab S7. My Tab S7 is older yet better. I prefer it. Not sure why people moan about Android tablets or why the iPad is so overhyped.

The main reason I've shunned Android tablets for several years is because it has not been possible to get Android tablet with proper biometrics and long software support (duration of feature and security updates) at the same price point as entry level iPad.

The duration of software support is starting to improve (especially with Samsung), but you still need to get flagship-level device in order to get proper biometrics on an Android tablet.

The unwillingness of Samsung to put a fingerprint sensor on the Tab S6 Lite (which is presumably competing with entry level iPad) is bemusing to me.

The lack of biometrics on less than flagship devices is valid. However support is on par with Apple and possibly even longer. Remember, both platforms offer their version of support.

Apple ties its core Apps including Safari to FW updates while Android does not. So once Apple stops supporting a device, the clock begins to tick in that device because Webkit is tied to FW updates as well. So in time you'll find Safari not becoming compatible with websites that have been updated. That's when Safari suffers as well as any browser on that device because they all use the same underpinnings as Safari.

Android OTOH separates its core apps and assigns them to the Play Store. So even when an Android device longer gets any further OS updates, it will get many more years of Play Store updates. So Google Chrome will work just fine on a device 7-8 yrs old. I'm not saying one approach is better than the other it's just that Android on average will get you more life on an older device.

Whilst that's true, once a device stops receiving security updates I'm no longer interested in using it. So for me, the meaningful life is up to the point security updates stop (I'm not so bothered about OS-level feature updates).

At the moment, only iPads (at all price points) and flagship-level Samsung tablets get both decent duration of security updates and proper biometrics. But I'm not interested in paying premium prices for a tablet, so I end up with entry-level iPad as really my only option.

If the browser is secure and the apps are secure then what does it matter if the o/s isn’t up to date?

Since I hate updates (been sour ever since iOS 7 and flat UI design became a thing) I consider lack of software updates on Android a feature, not a bug. In fact, the whole 'ya gonna get hacked!' nonsense is getting tiresome. If you utilize common sense and smart browsing, you'll be fine.

Personally, I'm tired and getting too old to deal with the constant moving of the cheese that comes with every update. That's why I still cling to my Note 10.1 and Tab 2 from 2012.

I don't know. I'm not knowledgeable on computer security. But my view is that if it isn't important, OS-level security updates wouldn't exist.

Been working just fine for me for over 20+ years.

Besides, tons of scambaiting videos exist that prove Windows 10/11 ain't no immunity.

Using Android 4.x, Windows XP/Vista, and my Apple TV 2nd Generation, not a peep from any of my ID monitoring services. Got tons of alerts when I attempted to use anything modern, such as Windows 10 somehow getting my phone number out on the dark web, likely Microsoft Account related. Changed it ASAP (the phone number) and deleted Windows 10.

Between telemetry and data gathering, tons of background activity exists on modern OSs to be concerned far more about than the unlikely event I will get hacked running a 10 year old plus tablet OS.

I can honestly tell you that I have used devices that were no longer supported and I have NEVER once had a security problem. I was using a Nexus 6 several years past its EOL. I had my AMEX app loaded ready to go and I also had Walmart Pay active as well as my Banking app. Not once did I have an issue. Friends in my circle had similar experiences.

I truly believe device security leans heavily towards FUD. It's a way to get one to buy a new device to keep consumerism alive and line the pockets of big corporations. Following simple commonsense practices while online whether a device is still receiving security updates or not will determine whether one becomes a victim to online hanky panky.

It is indeed FUD. Been FUD since 10 years ago when I first saw it on a Reddit post and now it's just a meme at this point "Ya gonna get hacked!"

Meanwhile, there are still very modern ATMs in town that boot WinXP. I have caught some in BSoDs and booting loops too. These ATMs have NFC and chip readers as well.

Apparently, Windows XP is good enough for TSA Security:

I thought they existed to slow our phones down and kill the batteries so that we upgrade? 😆

I'd be less opposed to 'security' updates if they didn't do other things like change the UI in some aspects. You'd be surprised what's included as part of a security patch.

I'd be all in for updates if they just focused on security and not constant, unnecessary and never demanded for UI redesigns every two weeks. As said, after iOS 7 I stopped believing in updates. I couldn't undo what iOS 7 (and later, Android 5) did.

I am not fond of the flat look, which the Mac did years ago.
To me, it’s even worse than iPad OS. I don’t ever want another Apple device, especially an iPhone.
I switch between my Android and Apple tablet regularly.
I enjoy Touch ID. My Android doesn’t have that.
Android is still my preferred OS.

My Apple TV is thankfully too old to have any update to flatten its OS.

Also, my 2012 Galaxy Note 10.1 remains perfectly usable, and has a UI I can stand:

My Huawei tablet from 4 years ago and my Samsung tablet from 2 years ago both have 'TouchID'.
