I always felt that 7 was the magic number for the AW. When it gets to that revision it truly will be a stellar device.

This. I think the s7 will not also have cosmetic changes as we would expect, but some other ‘big technology‘ that will appeal to all demographics, and draw in a new audience. Apple like to be very conservative with changes over the years, But if the AR glasses launch with the Apple Watch at the same time, I could see some type of technology-relation between those devices, maybe even possibly eliminating the iPhone where it could be its own device.

Will have to see what they announce, but my 42MM SG Cellular works just fine. I didn't see any compelling enough feature on the 5 to upgrade. The 6 will likely be the same. I don't even know if I will go to WO7, I like fore touch on the watch.

I’m debating with myself and seriously doubting. I have an AW 4 SS and it still looks good. No scratches on screen, battery is fine, I didn’t miss Always On (yet).

I paid 720 euro’s for it and I would only get 350 if I would sell it. For some reason I already have a feeling I’d rather have the Apple Watch 7 than Apple Watch 6.

Pro’s:
- I’d get 350 for it if I sell it, and have to bring 400 euro to the table. It would be more to invest next year, as the AW4 will continue to lose value.
- I’d get Always On Display
- I would get 2 new years of Apple Care+ This one is void in January 2021.

Cons:
- Not expecting much big upgrades;
- Bringing 400 EUR for a new AW4 and 700 EUR for a new iPhone to the table is quite pricy;
- Expecting bigger changes for Apple Watch 7;
- I’ll lose Apple Care+ for my AW4

Any advice? What would you choose?

Gotta agree with the waiters. My series 4 is serving me well. The AOD of the 5 did not entice me to upgrade then. I don’t know what I’ll do until I see what the 6 brings on the 15th. If nothing earth shattering, then I will probably hold off and see what the 7 brings in a year.

You could sell your watch and have very little out of pocket for the new watch, provided you get aluminum. And moving forward, you could get the aluminum version which would allow for a much more affordable yearly upgrade.

There is always going to be new tech. Even if you wait until next year, the new tech will still come along, and you will find yourself asking the same questions, because you are playing a tech upgrade game you can’t win.

You are definitely right about new tech coming out. I’m going to try my hand at preordering the S6 on Tuesday and see what happens. More than likely I’ll order the 44mm Aluminum Cellular gold again.

I believe my series 5 is about to sell so, I will definitely be buying the series 6 as soon as it goes on sale. If the dark blue is offered, I think I will go with that in stainless steel.

I did consider the SS since I keep my watches for 2-3 years. I’m still on the fence between Aluminum and Stainless Steel. I’m dropping between $1500-$1600 on the 12 Pro Max (if the prices increase this year) so that’s why I was thinking to buy Aluminum again this year.

This thread is a little pointless until we know the changes the Series 6 will bring.

That said, if it has the same design as the 4/5 and the Oxigen measurement is the only major feature, I will skip it.

Yeah. I had the aluminum AW4 and I hated it. The aluminum one looks like a toy. And the screen scratches easily. I like the Stainless Steel better.

I decided to wait a bit longer and see if I would get an AW6 maybe in January or not. I am self-employed and I prioritize a new iPhone over a new Watch. You know, corona... if I have no jobs for some weeks, it’s better to wait a bit longer. I budgetted the new iPhone, but not the new Watch. It all depends on my earnings for the coming weeks.

That makes a lot of sense and good you for not losing your head and getting drunk on new product Apple juice. The fever can get bad around the forum during this time of year.

I know! I have this Apple ‘fever’ every year. This year I am more careful. It is not nice to read the papers and read an article forecasting more business going broke. Even the Dutch Chamber of Commerce said to all businesses: ‘think again if you want to keep having a business, or want to stop and go back on payroll.’

My AW4 is fine. Maybe I’ll give myself the AW6 as a belated Christmas gift. Definitely not losing my head over every new Apple product. :)

I budgeted for the phone outright but not the watch as well. I now want the S6, but I have to look at my finances to see if I want to pay monthly on the watch in addition to the fee for cellular? All day tomorrow I’m going to work on this for a final decision on Tuesday before 9am.

Bolded:

If you’re paying monthly on your Apple Watch, the LTE service is not included. That’s a separate charge on your data plan versus what you’re paying for the hardware, so you’re paying for two charges.

I know. I had 2 separate charges when I was paying monthly for the watch with T-Mobile and the cellular. I just need to make sure I want to pay the 2 separate charges before I decide to preorder the watch.

To keep the amount of money spent on watch upgrades down, I've been buying second hand watches.
Last year, I went from Aluminum S4 to SBSS S4 for only $100.
I just picked up a SBSS S5 for $400 (AppleCare Replacement) and just sold my SBSS S4 for $300.

I’m on Stainless S4 and I‘m on a design upgrade cycle. No new design, no new upgrade. Glad I stuck around with S0 even with no latest software support for a year.

one, cause stainless steel is in some cases twice the price of Aluminum GPS model.
two, any new features will also be in the redesigned one. Except 3D touch for some reason.

Year 3 of the same design usually brings innovative features and tech for apple devices.

Series 3 got faster wireless and better battery life while being 2x faster. It may have an old design but it has proven to be the watch model that lasts.

same might be deployed with S6 spO2 sensor, fast charging and even longer battery life.

On a S4 and not feeling any great need to change.

The only thing that would change my mind would be if it was a similar sort of leap from that happened between the S2 to the S4.

At things stand atm, it seems like it will be a small step up rather than a leap.

Hopefully not: last year it was already a pretty insignificant step compared to AW4... how can Apple afford two insignificant updates in a row?

Please Apple surprise me in the same way you did when presenting AW4 and the amazing 44mm screen that never came out as rumor before the presentation!

I can appreciate you’re frugalness, but I don’t want a secondhand watch if it was worn on someone’s wrisk, especially a smart watch that was likely used for fitness, it’s just disgusting. I get you can sanitize the watch, but I’d rather just purchased one new realizing it was on my wrist versus someone else’s.

anyways, the secondhand market for a smart watches is very lucrative, and you can save a lot of money for something that’s ‘slightly used‘ or maybe not even used at all, where somebody just doesn’t want it and now it’s considered ‘open box’.

I get you may not want someone else’s watch, but don’t think I’d say it’s ‘disgusting’.

There are plenty of other activities we actively seek out to do with others (quite often strangers) than involve sweating and others things. 😜

Even when you go to restaurant you are using forks that’s been in someone else’s mouth....is that disgusting too? (Apologies if I’ve just ruined restaurants for you!! 😀). Do you go bowling and use their bowling shoes?

Wearing a second hand watch is just fine.
