iPhone 11 Pro Any yellow tint on iPhone 11 Pro Max?

I highly doubt that the phone you purchased was already a returned device. All returns are sent to Apple headquarters to be evaluated and be used as a refurbish on the refurbished section. Apple never sells you a phone that was opened and returned, they don't reseal those.

The stores only send returned devices back to HQ in certain situations such as defects in order to troubleshoot defects. They don’t return all returned devices back to HQ - they end up with millions of devices at HQ. ?

I have a question about sealed box phones. Im on the iPhone upgrade program and since exchanges with IUP require you to return the phone and basically repurchase, does this mean my upgrade program date will be pretty much reset into October?

The iPhone 11 doesn't have a oled screen so I don't think that it has the yellow issue but my friend just returned one because it overheated on him and gave him a message, thinking it was defective he returned it

The glass on my iPhone pro max does not feel very smooth like the one on my previous note 10 plus. I think whatever stupid coating apple is using is creating a little resistance and the yellow tinting..what a subpar phone
Also the phone is pretty heavy and thick

Did you not test out the weight in store before buying?

If the glass isn’t smooth, return it. It should glide the same as any phone out there, mines silky smooth and has zero tint to the screen.

I’d certainly return it if yours is below expectations and just get a refund or exchange for another device.

So your phone glides normal and NO yellow tint? This man won the lottery!

Mine is gliding at like -.05

Overall tint is about .3 more than I’d prefer, finish is a .98 due to a pin size scratch around the frame and camera dust is looking like .01 due to a visible dust spec inside lens #1.

Tint uniformity operating close to about .95

going to keep it, I think.

Put my 8 plus in another room and spent the day setting up the Pro Max, pairing my watch, taking pictures. All done. Brought the 8 plus back, side by side. The whites still aren’t “white”, but somehow I find the warmer tint easier on the eyes and the whites look just fine, different but fine! Selling my 8 plus and am a happy camper ?

My 11 Pro display has a slight green tinge. At first I thought it was yellow but as I thought about it and compared it side-by-side to my XS, it looks like it has a slight, dingy green tint compared to the XS, across all combinations of screen settings when kept equal. I got it on launch day Friday, and for three or four days I just felt like something was off about the screen, especially while using it on my desk at work under bright lights. It just looked dingier. I finally ended up putting it side-by-side with my XS that I haven't sold yet, and that's when it clicked that on the 11 Pro the whites weren't completely white and everything had a slight cast to it. I have a genius bar appointment on Tuesday after work and I'm hoping that by showing them the two phones and possibly comparing to display units in the store, they'll see that the colors definitely look off. My roommate could see it. And it's especially evident when comparing a selfie where I was wearing a black and white plaid dress shirt. My skin tones and the whites of the shirt look great and normal on the XS but you can see the green tinge in those colors on the 11 Pro. Regardless of warmth of the display, it shouldn't have a slight pale green tint to it. If anything it should just have more orange in it like with True Tone on. I don't think this is color temperature related.

Wow.. Yellow tint..green tint...pink hue...half screen brighter...heavy phone...thick side profile...glass doesn't glide well...dingy screen...Grey dull screen...so basically this sounds like an epic fail for some of us! The once not complaining either don't care! Or don't know any better! I'm simply going back to the note 10 plus on Monday and maybe i will look at what apple is coming out in 2020

Hi guys - I too received my 11 Pro and immediately noticed the very warm white balance, and overall yellowish hue on the screen. I promptly went to the local apple store to compare to other 11 Pros and realized that my screen was SLIGHTLY warmer than the floor models (my bro said I was crazy they were the same), but SIGNIFICANTLY brighter and sharper, with all settings equal.

My OCD not satisfied, I broke out an old colorimeter that I use to color calibrate my monitors and generate color profiles. Using a pure white (255,255,255) target on each device, I tested my new 11 Pro, my old iPhone 7, and my Macbook Pro. The standard in the graphics and print industry is 6500K at pure white - this is what almost all professional print, broadcast, photo, and graphics pros strive for. The results were surprising: Macbook was slightly cooler at ~6770K, old iPhone 7 was a nuclear 8900K, and the new 11 Pro was nearly SPOT ON at 6553K!

I think the take home message here is that our brains have been conditioned to perceive very cool colors as "vibrant" or "clearer" even though it's definitely not industry standard. Results attached.

I measured 3 Pro Max units and they are all yellowish. It looks to be a feature of this display. Trying to understand why Apple did this.

Here’s is the thing... the color temp is one thing, the RGB balance is another. You can have a near D65 white point with the RGB balance being way off. I can mess with the RGB balance in all kinds of ways and still measure it as near 6,500 Kelvin. I’ve measured 3 iPhone 11 Pro Max units and what’s happening is that all 3 don’t have enough blue, slightly not enough red and enough green. What happens when you have red and green light and not enough blue? You get whites that are yellowish. And to boot, because there is slightly not enough red you get a greenish-yellow. That’s what happening here. The blue color channel with the oled subpixels is not balanced with the red and green.

Do you have sensitivity to PWM / thoughts on it?

Also from your videos I feel like you lucked out on xs max and pro max screen lottery ... even with a sample of three each time

Do you suspect multiple manufacturer suppliers are contributing to wide degrees of variation this generation or just some of the same old standard variation?

I hope you never stop being a screen stickler! You’re the only reviewer that spends good amount of time on it and being realistic with store bought models not ones cherry picked and sent to you

Do you think Apple does that? Or they just have a config profile that cranks brightness and whites? I swear demos generally look way better than what you buy on average. Like torch mode for phones but without destroying colors

maybe it has to be with dolby vision screen requirements?

I think this is a new “feature” of the phone. They probably did this focus this year is on photos and the new night mode. Having a warmer screen makes the photos appear more rich and saturated.

I have had every generation of iPhone and I am personally sick of playing the screen lottery and accepting what apple wants the general white point to be for us. The lack of customization is getting real old.

Unfortunately, I am deep into the Apple ecosystem. I wish I could get excited for the new phones again. The Note 10 plus and it’s customization features is pretty tempting, but I would miss iMessage, FaceTime, air drop, and iOS only apps. To me, although the phones are better than ever, the lack of customization on the iPhones is getting real old!

Here is a perfect example of uneven tint

top portion is yellow. Bottom portion is “white” or at least not the same tint as the top

I really don’t bother about the yellonewness anymore. But the unevenness gets to me

Peel off the screen protector or plastic cover first, the do the testing.
