But it got worse with the 11 Pro.
I disagree! Nothing can beat the very first batches of the X. I had to return 4 of them. Some of them had some extreme cases of turning pink while tilted. I have yet to see a single 11 Pro or Pro Max with that severe case of color shift.

I had to take my 11 pro back because it was yellow and just not very white/vibrant at all so I disagree with you

My launch day iPhone X had pink around the right and top edges and the Genius that I saw even compared it to the store manager's phone and had the audacity to tell me the screen looked normal. I was livid.

Looking at my Pro Max compared to my wife’s Pro and my brothers XS Max and out of all three the 2 Pro’s are definitely a bit warmer but my problem is my Pro Max is not as clear as either of the other two. It’s not as vibrant and colors don’t pop as much as either the Pro or the XS Max I’m not sure what the correct word to describe it is but it’s just not as clear, mine is almost more hazy. It’s actually extremely annoying I might return it.

Anyone else having my problem?

My first 11 Pro had a slightly greenish cast to the whole screen and made things as you describe, slightly dull or lackluster or just not standing out. The second 11 Pro had better contrast, so it looked like the screen had more definition and was sharper. Blacks and whites were respectively bolder and stood out more. Is that what you think is going on with yours?

Yes. You got it right. I have had warmer iPhones before. I usually break my phones so I don’t bother cause my Apple care plus replacement could be yellow or white. I just live with whatever I get. But the pro max , is exactly like you mentioned. It’s like there is some coating that makes it dull and less vibrant. It’s not just the colour temperature. Everything looks duller. Think your on to something here but I can assure you, that’s my problem too. Some kind of haze on the screen.

It was the same exact complaint between the note 9 and s9 folks going to a note 10 or S10. When putting both devices next to each the older one looked sharper and whiter.

I feel as the NIT in displays keep increasing, screens are calibrated gradually warmer to keep our eyes from searing.

Sounds exactly like my Pro Max. I can live with a warmer toned screen, but this seemed to have a haze on the very top layer of the glass almost as if it wasn’t laminated! Contrast was absolutely awful, colour shift terrible. My 8+ and iPad Pro’s screens were so much better in every way. My first experience of an OLED screen and after reading this thread and looking at other Pros in the Apple store I just returned it and bought an 11. Very happy with it. I’ll try again with the 2020 iPhone Pro though.

I’ve had 3 Max Pro’s.

1: beautiful screen, not yellow at all but had a yellow section at the bottom on tilt.
2: every so slightly yellow but not noticeable in good lighting - TT on this unit was terrible, turned the screen really dingy yellow when side by side with the 3rd unit.
3: shifted slightly pink

I kept the second unit. Comparing all of them to my S10+, none of them were as white. I do think the slight yellow is by Apple’s adjustment in terms of making photos look better and quite possibly for better eye health.

Am I the only one who prefers warmer screens? They’re way easier on the eyes. Once you get used to it cool screens seem overly harsh.

You know, yellow screens is why I signed up for this forum almost 10 years ago. Here was my iPhone 4 replacement next to a retail box phone.

Not a single person ever said the phone on the left was normal, or apple purposely did it to make the screen easier on eyes. Funny how times have changed.

One looks yellow, the other looks blue. It’s a matter of what you’re used to. If you calibrate screens for night work then they will be yellowish. Admittedly that one on the left looks overly yellow - but I don’t think the new screens are that bad. Overall it’s a subjective thing and it’s easy to get used to different white points.

Thats exactly how i feel about it except I dont really see a greenish tint to my phone its more just hazy. Its actually comparable to the other two 11 Pro's side by side all on the same settings all had pretty much the same warm tinted screen on them but the two 11 Pro's were vastly sharper and more vibrant than my Pro max. As if they forgot to hit the HD button on my Pro max haha

Well in theory they’re both the same pixel density therefore the max pixels has to be spread a little wider due to display being larger so it’s not gonna be as sharp as the smaller pro.

However at this pixel density our eyes shouldn’t be able to notice / discern that if at all.

it’s going to be interesting to see when I get my pro max, still sitting in pending status last 8 days since Oct 1st.

How come that on some other smartphones e.g. Note 10 Plus or some even cheaper OLED ones I never saw any yellow tinting or color shift??! Yesterday I had a chance to play with several Note 10 Plus devices and not a single one exhibited those anomalies but with OLED iPhones is a complete lottery, you pay 1000$ and spin the Wheel! Very interesting.

Today I received my 11 Pro Max replacement device. Produced in calendar week 36. End of September. The display is exactly like my device before. Slightly warmer calibrated, but okay. Remarkable: When the auto brightness is off, the display brightens and shines after 8 seconds. Although nothing is regulated by the brightness. Hopefully a bug. Or Apple saves battery on this way.

Other thing: Are the edges of your 11 Pro's between the display and the stainless steel frame "sharp"? My Xs Max was buttery soft. The 11 Pro models in the Apple Store are all "edgier".

I've gotten 3 the first round and 2 the second round and they vary in smoothness and display uniformity. I posted on here a URL for people too pose their production weeks and the first 3 were from week 35 and the second were week 37. The week 37 models still have the display uniformity issue on low brightness under gray which is the stress test and I"m thinking it's just a matter of being ok with it, finding one not as poor as another, or returning it.

The sides of thee units and the buttons even have variances. One had a mushy volume down button, another had shaper edges, some semi sharp, and others were very smooth. So like anything mass produced, it simply comes down to lottery, and getting a unicorn you are ok with.

Apple isn't being very strict on the tolerances this year in some ways, and better than others in different areas.

I think the displays intentionally are designed to be more yellow and we might see that lesson in time.

Additionally, OLED by nature will even out and wear over time with varied content. But the large swings in gray color uniformity will by in large always remain to an extent. Seems to be related to voltages running through he back of the panel and one area having a ever so slightly higher amount of power than another area.

Having gone through the thread and watched and my own experiences, this years models are more yellow despite what anyone says. Some are worse however.

There are some fit and finish issues and some units arriving with damage. Which also doesn't differ from previous years.

And it comes down to you being able to adjust to the new way these are set up or you stay on what you had assuming you don't want to switch to Android. But that's the way it is ladies and gents.

I know. I’ve had five Xs Max replacements with sharp edges at the front or/and the backside. the sixth was perfect. So, it‘s a lottery - 2019 again.

I feel like there are less of a gap between the stainless steel and glass though this year. It feels more seamless in my hand. But don't get me wrong some of the edges are still sharp.

I had to return my first Pro Max because of this. It was like a razor on the edges but the screen was fine. The second one has a bit duller screen with TT on but are perfect otherwise.

When I turn off True Tone and auto brightness the new screen is splendid white and extremely bright so that tells me that there are nothing wrong with the screen, it’s just Apples calibration that messes up something (intentionally or not).
