As a FYI, I was in an Apple Store yesterday evening and was able to check iPhone 11 (LCD) screens just out of curiosity and their calibration is quite different between models too. Some were less bright or warmer than others. Also they were slightly color shifting too by that I mean when you look at them on different angles you can see that either Brightness or Color are changing (saw some turning more yellow or other turning more pinkish, and for sure all less bright). I believe this will be less obvious than OLED screens but the iPhone 11 calibration is not perfect too.

How come that on some other smartphones e.g. Note 10 Plus or some even cheaper OLED ones I never saw any yellow tinting or color shift??! Yesterday I had a chance to play with several Note 10 Plus devices and not a single one exhibited those anomalies but with OLED iPhones is a complete lottery, you pay 1000$ and spin the Wheel! Very interesting.

My Note 10+ had a significant color shift when viewing at an angle. As bad if not worse than my iPhone 11 Pro Max. The Note 10+ is also much dimmer and much cooler but not in a good way. Screen is on the blue side and this is my second Note 10+ due to a hardware defect. At least Samsung gives you the option to change the screen temperature. I have played the iPhone screen lottery in the past and ended up with a worse one that I originally got. Shame we have to compromise.

The pro Max I returned had significant yellow tint. The regular 11Pro I have now looks much better.

True Tone was / is off on both.

This yellow screen issue is driving me crazy o_O I don't really want to deal with exchanging and going through the lottery, it's been such a pain in the years past.

The biggest issue for more is the contrast in color (more yellow) when looking at the iPhone screen after my MBP screen or basically any other display I have.

Just trying to get use to it but it's not easy this year, I'm really hoping Apple can do something through software but I doubt they care about this.

Has anyone successfully swapped their iPhone 11 Pro for one with a better screen? I remember previous reports of people attempting to do so and the new ones having the same issue. I figured I'd wait a few weeks. Curious if it's gotten better yet?

No, there are isolated reports with claims they got a better one, which I think might be because they got a defective panel to start with. But by in large most of what is on here is yellow screens and they are mostly calibrated the same and people are swapping thinking they might get lucky.

Some of the few like myself who have had uneven displays have tried new units and had the same outcomes however or slightly improved uniformity. YMMV.

That's what I was afraid of. I suppose if I have time next week I'll try a swap again, but it doesn't seem like many in this thread history have had success yet.

I can let you know they will all have some degree of uniformity so if you in low light usage and day usage can't see any issues, and don't have any physical damage or debris under the glass or cameras then you are about as good as you are going to get.

I had 3 11 Pro's and 2 11 Pro Max's: some of them were noticeably more uneven that the others, which was mostly noticeable in low light. There is no 100% uniform screen. That was already clear with the X 2 years ago when I tried 4-5 of them.

I ended up keeping my original Day 1 11 Pro after trying 4 other phones.

I would have kept my day one iPhone but the unit ended up having a scratched camera lens out of the box that I simply couldn't get used to or live with. Appeared to be on the inside of the glass so not sure how bad it was. Not sure how these get scratched like this, but in the quantity I suppose it's bound to happen.

Holy crap!! I just turned OFF True Tone on my X while I wait for the max on order and it is such a heavy blue tint, it actually hurt my eyes.

When I turned true tone back ON what I thought was really white before on my X was actually a the light yellow that I guess my eyes acclimated to over time.

My sons 11 pro was just a little lighter yellow then mine with True Tone ON which made mine look more white is all. When he turned true tone OFF he preferred the whiter display and turned down the brightness.

I’m feeling much better regarding this whole yellow tint issue now.

With the newer 11 pro models having higher nits, I imagine they have to compensate the screen a little more.

Def happened while the camera module itself was assembled together. Some of these tiny details are still assembled by hand, hence all these imperfections.

The yellow tint issue has nothing to do with True Tone. This issue is, and has always been, with true tone OFF.

Looking at my Pro Max compared to my wife’s Pro and my brothers XS Max and out of all three the 2 Pro’s are definitely a bit warmer but my problem is my Pro Max is not as clear as either of the other two. It’s not as vibrant and colors don’t pop as much as either the Pro or the XS Max I’m not sure what the correct word to describe it is but it’s just not as clear, mine is almost more hazy. It’s actually extremely annoying I might return it.

Anyone else having my problem?
Same exact problem with my Pro. Almost feels like someone put a sepia filter over the display and contrast of text on white pages is weaker than on my wife’s XS.

I know how this sounds, but does anyone think a well-written email to Phill Schiller or Tim Cook (especially linking this thread) might glean anything?

Exactly. It's like everything is just there on the screen but doesn't pop and lacks the depth and vividness the XS had. Your eyes just gloss over all of it, and text and other features that should stand out don't catch your eye.

You’ve hit the nail on the head! What causes the uniformity issues? Is it off laminate on the glass or is it issues with the OLED panels?

My day 1 Pro Max was stunning screen wise (no shift, no hues and white) but in low light, it exhibited a darker yellow hue at the bottom left hand side only - would annoy the hell out of me in bed or in low light conditions.

I swapped it and the second device - which I kept is perfect uniform wise but it is a fraction more yellow then the original. The original wasn’t yellow.

The 3rd one had a uniform screen but exhibited a slightly pink hue on tilt and with TT on look much more saturated than my second device with TT on - I think if you have a slight pink hue then it just messes with TT full stop.

I purchased the Pro yesterday for my husband and his has the same slight pink hue but he isn’t bothered. Kind of bothers me but if he’s happy then there’s no point exchanging.

Uniformity in my opinion is resultant from the panel voltages or application ofthe organic material. So if the grid that powers these isn’t precise then you get different light output and I’m seeing simulate patterns from the devices I’ve had. So it’s a variance in the panel process. I don’t buy into it being the display costing.

My experience (256gb 11 pro max):
1st one got dust particles under lens. (Also pinkish hue on the screen, not really uniform)
2nd one is a BIT more yellowish but uniform. Also, no dust particles under lens and ultrawide-lens is sharper.

Going to keep the 2nd one.

There will be SOMETHING to complain about, to me dust particles under 2 of the lenses was nono. One was under the ultrawide-camera that caused the ultrawide lens to be blurry.

There's also reports of:
- Dint between the screen and housing
- Dust under the screen. (My old Note8 had this issue)
- Scratches on the screen out of the box
- Messed up oleophobic coating
- Scratches on the camera lens that might be visible on the shots.

And what i have noticed in my personal life is that if you go and look for a defect, eventually you will find one.

If you are not happy with your 1000€/$+ phone, go ahead and exchange it. But there might be a situation that you get some and lose something in exchange.

Just my 2 cents.
