awww i got really excited and restarted mine, nothing happened...when i woke up today i realised i dont know the following information:

Contract type (receipt for iphone says something different to receipt for insurance)

when first bill will be taken

how much will be taken

mobile number (gave them a pac code - so hope i am not waiting until that works)

if i am insured.

it will all be ok. it will all be ok. etc.

The texts from o2 are pretty much for your online account, providing your username and password, and when you log onto the o2 website you can dig through and find all of that information quite easily

I think you should all restart your phones every hour or whatever, I think thats the only way the phone will check if the service is available.

my message in the top left corner has now changed from 'no service' to 'searching' .. still means there's no phone but at least it's a different message for me to stare at!!

10 mins later: it's just changed back to 'no service' .. grrrrrr .. should I be phoning them or is it just a case of waiting it out?

Yep restarting will work once the sim is connected the store phoned me saying it should be activated in a couple hours but as soon as they were finished i restarted the phone and got the 3 texts and o2-uk showed up. Full signal but only GPRS:(

O2 store open at weekends?

i'm in the same boat waiting for the people in the O2 store that i bought my iPhone off yesterday to key in the manual application they did. Not too different to everyone elses posts i see today.

My problem is that i got mine from the O2 store in the City (London) which is normally closed at the weekend. Good chance therefore that no one is going to start keying my contract until Monday at the earliest.

Anyone else in the same boat? or is there a chance O2 staff are going to work all weekend to sort out this mess of theirs?

Bought mine yesterday morning at the O2 store in Peterborough. Transferring from an O2 Simplicity to an iPhone account. New sim still isn't activated, but I've just tried my old sim in the iPhone and it's working, 3G signal and all. :D

So if you want to get some use out your new phone and you've got an old O2 sim try it in the iPhone and see if it works.

I guess when they get around to switching my number over the old sim will stop working.

Still nothing here. How many of you are CPW mail order customers? Anyone activated yet?

yup mail order here .. was delivered to the CPW store in my town and they literally just handed the bag over to me doing nothing .. it's still not finding the service .. not sure how long to leave it 'til I phone them .. will try and 'chill' but Monday if it's not working I'll be calling (and grumpy!!)

Oh good. Not just me then. I've rang cpw, o2 and even apple multiple times but it's making no difference. If you want to ring then I think o2 are the ones to push. They're on 08706072302.

Really annoyed that we seem to be bottom of the queue though even though I had my iPhone in my hand yesterday even before they first o2 and apple stores opened yesterday.

If you are an upgrade from a Simplicity contract, you need not have used anything but your existing simcard from the outset. In such a situation there is no need for a new simcard at all. You just use your existing simcard and you retain your existing number,

Incidentally, still no service either for my other half or her sister. That's 2 whole working days after the phones were bought. It really isn't on. Very poor show O2!

Hurrah! got a call of my store and they asked a few questions that were evidently needed yesterday and said that i would have an account in 48 hours. the guy said to check again soon though as their servers are back on form and things are moving smoothly. just did and i now have a working iphone and an online account...now to check just what type of account i have...

I'm a CPW customer who received their phone yesterday. Still no service despite spending 45 mins on the phone today. Chilled about it still, but would like some compensation for the wait!

I was the 7th customer to get an iphones yesterday at the O2 store, still after 35 hours, still no coverage! absolutley disgraceful, im gona give O2 and earful, i switched from orange to O2 especially for this!

Ok I've got a full 3g signal now.

Here's what I did: Went into o2 and asked if there system was up, I was told 'no'. Another guy then came over and said 1 person per store can log on to activate iPhones, so he asked for my name said he'll do it now and ten mins later I had a full 3g signal.

If you guys are still waiting I suggest you go into the store tomorrow.

That sounds like a good idea, might just to do that 2moro at the O2 store! Thanks

Mine just started working, was second in line in an Oxford Street store. Finally! :D

Im still annoyed with O2 though, about a week of troubles, but its hard to stay mad when it all finally starts working.

I'm getting "No Service" too (Saturday Evening).

Purchased my iPhone at the Apple Store in the Trafford Centre, Manchester, at about 17:30 yesterday after waiting since about 2:00. I think this was quite a short wait by comparison to some.

Yeah it sucks, but I am not surprised that o2 are having these difficulties. Their systems were probably never scaled for this sort of launch. And as soon as they go down, then backlogs arise which compound the problem. I should think it would take a good few days to sort out.

Complaining to o2 - if you can get through to them - will probably help. The squeakiest joints always get the grease first.

oh sweet..... my iPod Touch 3G just turned into an iPhone 3G.... seems like O2 are working on a saturday night to sortout the backlog of paper contracts :D.... just keep turning you phones on and off every now and then.

I was 30th in line there! :) Are you a new customer, or upgrading from old iPhone?

24 hours after getting my ipod from Apple at 8:45 this evening I turned the phone off and back on and finally got a signal....

So hopefully everyone elses should be up and running soon, be patient - i know its difficult but hopefully it will all be fine!! Thanks for this thread, I was worried I was on my own with this!

I've yet to see a single CPW mail order iPhone that's been sim activated... Why do I think we're gonna be last - on Monday evening...?

I was just over on the O2 forums (I'm a CPW customer) and they were posting about all these activation issues .. it seems that the CPW computers went down under the strain too and O2 haven't even received the details of our phones yet .. they're talking about Tuesday as resolution!!! .. seems soooo far away!

well that's at least 4 of us on these forums. What's the betting that our activation requests are at the bottom of O2's pile.

make it 5. 36 hours with no service. Called O2 yesterday and today, was just told the same thing "they're working through them, may take up to 72 hours to activate, can't say anything more, not my dept". Problem is, no matter how much you kick up a fuss, it makes no difference to them and your phone will still not be activated.
