I was just over on the O2 forums (I'm a CPW customer) and they were posting about all these activation issues .. it seems that the CPW computers went down under the strain too and O2 haven't even received the details of our phones yet .. they're talking about Tuesday as resolution!!! .. seems soooo far away!

If true, this is a disgrace. I dont want compensation, I just need a phone service that bleeding works!!!

make it 5. 36 hours with no service. Called O2 yesterday and today, was just told the same thing "they're working through them, may take up to 72 hours to activate, can't say anything more, not my dept". Problem is, no matter how much you kick up a fuss, it makes no difference to them and your phone will still not be activated.

We should all ask for compensation - I most definitely will - at least a month off my line rental. They ****ed it up, why should we suffer for their mistake and not be compensated?

I agree completely.

I've now taken to e-mailing both CW and O2. Chances are my e-mails won't even be read til Monday and won't be replied to for a long long time yet.

I still reckon us CPW Mail Order customers are at the bottom of the queue (assuming we're even in it yet!) and that's what pisses me off most.

Oh, and I wrote a length e-mail to O2, but their online form FORCED me to take out a lot of relevant information and compress it down to two paragraphs. I bet I'll get a stock response from both O2 and CW anyway.

For me, the most frustrating thing of all is that nobody at O2 can (or can be bothered) to confirm that O2 have been passed my details from CW. I'd feel a lot better just knowing what the hold up is. Have O2 got my details? Are they (for some unknown reason) on paper waiting to be processed? I just still suspect that O2 haven't even got our details and until Monday/Tuesday they're not even going to look into that possibility.

I think the same - it's CPW's fault - when I call O2 they don't even know I exist.
Though you call CPW and they blame O2. No one takes the blame.

Please keep us updated about any response you get from them or anything.

Will you ask for compensation? If so, how much? I'd expect at least a month free line rental on top of a letter of apology by them.

Mine was activated at 1900 today. I was the first person to be served at my local 02 store yesterday, at 0802. Paper activation, new customer.

May I say - OMG I LOVE MY IPHONE! Had a Touch since launch, but the addition of phone, internet capabilites on the move, external speaker and physical volume buttons make it truly a fantastic improvement. The video playback seems noticeably better than on the 16 & 32gb touches I've owned, glossier and more vibrant colours.

edit: I should note that my phone was activated for phone usage after switching it off then on again. It may have been activated earlier, I'd tried the same process at about lunchtime but to no avail.

At the moment I'm not arsed about compensation - I just want the damn thing to work. I believe our contracts won't start until the sim is activated though but I might be cheeky and see what they offer. A dock would be nice.

Also, I'm well within my rights at the moment to return my iPhone to CW. If this isn't sorted earlyish tomorrow then I might just walk into an Apple store (which still have stock, I believe) and purchase a new one. Looking at forum posts they're being activated fairly quickly now. That way I get a working iPhone and CW can go and **** themselves. Considering I've handed across £269 to them (phone + deposit) they're no use whatsoever. As you say, they're blaming O2; but as a CW customer (they're the ones who took the money - how much of that they hand to O2 is none of my business) I expect them to be kicking O2's arse to get me up and running - and they're just not.

Guys, just want to make sure i've done everything right..

Plugged my iPhone into my Mac, filled out some stuff in iTunes, iPhone is all synced. Has 'No Service' at the top right, is it just a case of waiting for it to connect to o2 now?

yep... that's what i did and mine connected this evening..... you just need to turn it on and off every hour (the phone doesn't check for service if you don't do this)..... you'll know when you're connected as O2 send you 3 sms messages :D

Excellent, thanks.

Only got my iPhone this evening and activated it at about 7, so have a bit of waiting to do..

Good idea but I'd hae through they would be sold out in most places - I'll call the apple store to check.

I'm also going to try and call CPW and not get off the phone until they do something or give me a proper explanation.

I got a call last night at 7pm from the 02 store and the phone was up and running within the hour. Not too bad considering all the problems they have had

I'm in the same boat as all the other No Service people and as frustrated as anyone but the rush for compensation is equally unedifying. Given that your service contract doesn't start until you are activated, I'm not sure what you want to be compensated for.

Also, are we agreed that it's almost all the CPW online customers suffering this issue? As someone else said, my fear is I'm not even in the queue.

Compensation for:
- the inconvenience
- for lack of information *- I have a feeling they are withholding some information so as to avoid mass compensation claims
- for misguidance (they said it'd be activated Friday avening, then Saturday afternoon, now it's today by end of business)
- for having a problem that we should not have had
- for the PAYG SIM card I had to go and buy so that I could call people during this period.
*- for the extra time I have had to spend trying to find out what's going on as an attempt to expedite the activation process
*- for the hours I've spent on hold with terribly annoying music, only to be transfered to wrong departments etc

They f***ed it up, it's not our fault - so be it a free lollipop or a month's free line rental, they have to do something as an "apology" for f***ing up.

Of course I want my phone to work and that's my priority but they really are not being very helpful at all and I have very little information - so the one thing that cools my nerves is the thought I'll be compensated for this cock up.

I can confirm I am an CPW online customer.

Called CPW warehouse again - they said there are 700 customers affected.
The problem was with sending information between CPW and O2 - so O2 never received our orders yet and hence why they are not being processed.
She said that they were looking into it and trying to sort it out asap but had no idea about when it'd be resolved.
So, first our order needs to reach O2, then they need to go through their buggy systems for activation.
By the looks of it it'll be Monday or even Tuesday before we have service.

Some dozy cow at CW just said it's an Apple problem. When I confronted her she clammed up and said she couldn't give me any more information - nor would she transfer me to a supervisor.

I was being told that they are trying to get 'an update' today, but it may take up to 1pm tomorrow meaning, yes, it's likely we won't get service until Tuesday.

I'm now going to ask for a refund and go down to the Apple Store...

add another to the list of 'no signals'. got mine at 9:15 on friday, itunes activated at 10, no signal for .... 50hrs!!

bought in O2 shop, new customer

If I were you I would call them first to check they have stock - especially if you want the 16GB.
Apple store in Regent St opens at 12 on Sundays. I'm calling them in a minute to find out.

Whilst i'm *still* sitting here waiting for my iPhone to be activated, who are people complaining to? I'm not comfortable doing this a phone, is there a CPW complaints email address?

ok ..

Just got off the phone with CPW .. (yup, was an online order last Monday, delivered to my local store Friday) ..

the 'official' word now is that they will be activated Monday or Tuesday .. his words 'we've been told now that it will be Monday or Tuesday' ..

I'm taking this to mean Tuesday (unfortunately) or maybe not even then!! ..

His first words to me when I said that I was having trouble with my iPhone? .. 'at least you've got one, I can't get hold of one'!!! ..

ho hum

Apple Store Regent St apparently has good stock - so for anyone wanting one they can go there.
I think it'll be Tuesday as well. Total joke - so angry!

I'm ready to blow now:

Apple Store Trafford Centre: Had stock, so I could have purchased a new contract and phone (activated) and returned my inactive one to CPW for a refund. Unfortunately, was declined credit check probably due to trying to take out two contracts inside a week. Apple said nothing they could do. O2 customer services said "It's Equifax's decision." - which, as we know, it a load of bollocks.

Carphone Warehouse Instore: Said because I ordered online there's nothing they can do and they have no information on inactive iPhones because it's dealt with my central customer services. Again. No help whatsoever. I also know it's not true because my local CW was able to pull up my details and resubmit for activation on Friday.

Carphone Warehouse Cust. Serv: They say they can only tell us what they know which is that there is a problem and it's being worked on. No timeframe was given for resolution and they didn't know what the problem actually was. Also, I wasn't allowed to speak to a manager.

O2 Customer Services: Still giving the line "there's a backlog - it'll be 24-48 hours." When asked if they'd received my details from CPW they didn't know and advised me to speak to CPW.

Three companies, one product, £249 shared between them - and as my iPhone quite rightly says ... "No Service."

All active and ok here!

1. if you went to CPW...well what can i say, FOOLS! better check they signed u up correctly!
2. O2 switched me on saturday evening about 7pm
3. Ha! it rocks :D Good luck peeps!

wouldn't have been my first choice but it's the only place in town to buy the iPhone .. of course if I'd known I was just getting another iPod touch I could have purchased it in Argos! lol
