I browsed MacRumors last night....pulled it up this morning and it was still on the same page I browsed last night.....

Maybe I'm not using enough memory to warrant a reload? I also don't open more than 2-3 tabs at a time.... generally just one.

I edited my post btw. I think your just not using the memory. Tapatalk and safari are the biggest too I notice. In safari it will retain the webpage HTML but not the webpage itself.

That's just the way it works. It's not a problem IMHO and I feel iOS and the apps do a good job at not reloading. It's just based on available ram and how much cache an app is willing to use. I rather stuff reload then turn into a huge storage monster like Facebook.

Btw when is apple going to give the option to delete cache without deleting the app.

The app is 37 mb. Only way to get that back is to delete the app. That is the "other" in iTunes. Blah, its certainly not an efficient file system at all.

The 1 GB RAM on i5 greatly helps.

No matter whatever computer it is (smartphone are really mini computers), out of RAM = time to kill app and reload it later when user launches it again.

More ram and less activity (less safari tabs, less concurrent apps running) = you may not lose your page even after a couple of days.

My iPhone 4 with its 512 mb ram would routinely load safari tabs. On i5, much less, but happens sometimes (IM+ + games + browser + maps + songs etc can take up memory pretty quickly if done very closely.

Interesting....never noticed that before..

Sure - which is why the asked the guy I was talking with what iPhone he was using.

I have a 4S so 512 mb ram. 1 gb would really help me out. I'm curious with iOS 7 if the 5S will have more. I might upgrade if so, if not I'll wait till the 6.

Safari reloads almost every single time I open it on my iPhone 4, and even if it doesn't, all tabs but the currently open one will when I go to switch. This happens even if all I'm doing is playing music in the background while using Safari.

Then again, the iPhone 4 is very outdated hardware.

Here's something funny. Since I'm returning my Nexus 4, I may take advantage of Apple's 30 day return policy and purchase an unlocked iPhone 5 to use whilst waiting for the S4 to come out. With competition heating up from HTC, Sony, LG, etc., I'm hoping Samsung will have an earlier release time frame for US markets. If it's sometime in April, it'd work out perfectly.

It is a shock to use ios after 4.2.2. At least to me it has been. Don't know what to do about my i5, sell or wait till ios7 to see. Although I would rather get wp8 or bb10 phone instead of ios if I was moving from android because I hate apple's mobile restrictions (their desktop OS is still as "open" as any other when it comes to allowing a user flexibility). Glad there are finally decent options to ios at least.

I own an iPad 3rd gen. I'm already accustomed to iOS' shortcomings. ;)

Honestly, though, you're right. It'll be a torturous month with the iPhone 5. I can't imagine going back to that keyboard... ugh. My conversations are about to sound a lot stupider thanks to the auto correct.

I'm the opposite of the thread title in the respect I'm a long time Android user that recently went to an iPhone. As of yet I am not missing Android, but there are pro's and con's of each interface IMO. I love the simplicity and stability I get on iOS and the apps seem much more polished and carry more features from what I have encountered. What I miss about Android is the way you can quickly access settings and features like turning wifi, 3G on and off and attach these feature to the drop down part of your homescreen. I hope Apple take not of the little things like this, but apart from that I'm glad I made the leap up to iOS. :)

I'm seriously thinking about posting an ad on CL and try and trade my nexus 4 for an iPhone 5 again.

It's not that I hate android or anything, I actually like a lot of things about it but I don't like it more than the iPhone and that is where my problem comes. The convenience of how the iPhone integrates into my life is drawing me back in a strong way..

Decisions decisions...

I may be wrong, but I think their phones only have a 14 day return policy. Everything else is 30 days.

edit: nm, it is the other way around. iphones are 30 and everything else is 14

Ya. But I don't look forward to going back to iOS...

I'm still undecided on what to do, actually. The only Android phones I find acceptable are Nexus phones, but you already know how that turned out. Every other Android phone, I have some sort of issue with.

I'm really hoping for the S4 to seal the deal, but giving the recent leaks, I'm not too thrilled... We shall see tonight.

I know what you mean. I love the way apps run on my iphone 5, but after using android for a few months, it does feel "restrictive." I actually thought about just getting a s3 mini to hold me over until I see what apple does, and if an s4 mini will be released. The size really appeals to me, and I wouldn't have the nexus 4 issues.

Don't be that guy.

Return policies are meant for people that have legit issues or a change of heart. Folks using it to game the system and jump from purchase to purchase are what is causing a lot of businesses to get much tighter with their return policies.

just curious what issues were you having with your nexus 4?

I need a smartphone. I don't do this on a regular basis. And it's apple's policy, not mine. There's also the chance that I may keep the iphone if I'm not pleased with other offerings.

Not to mention I've given apple more than enough of my money (thunderbolt display, retina mac book, ipad, etc).

Really bad speakers/call quality, checker board burn-ins on the screen, and the last replacement was perfect, but would not stay connected to the wireless charging orb and always slid off. I know it wasn't the orb b.c it worked fine with 2 other nexus'

I feel you about the call quality. Three devices that had call quality issues.

My uncle's Nexus 4, which he purchased a few weeks back per my recommendation, I discovered is also complaining about call quality issues. I told him to also return it, sadly.

So what are you using in the mean time? And what are you looking at getting in the near future, if I may ask?

Who would want to do that? Maybe trade an nexus 4 for a locked iPhone 5? Even then that's still dumb for the iPhone user.

Sell the iphone on CL for more then the cost of a NEW N4.

I would be fine with an at&t locked phone. Other than that I am fully aware that it may require some cash on my end.

May be no reason to put it on Craigs list I would be interested in an offer like that. I have a 16gb white att iphone 5 if you are interested. I would have to think about it though I might want some cash. If you are interested PM me.

Edit: the iphone is unlocked. It was unlocked by att.

No, what I said IS true.

How about we place a wager on that?

I'll shoot a video proving my point if you'd like.

Open an app and there is a hesitation. On android it pops right back up.

I played grand theft auto, spades, and a few other apps and they are having to load BEFORE they can continue to be used.

Also I have taken the time to use an iphone, i used to be an iphone fanboy I swore it was the phone that can do anything and things no other phone could do, but someone convinced me to try a high end android and then I was proven wrong.

So no, I'm not someone who hasn't taken the time to use it.

And the stock apps on Android aren't crap, there are just better options out there.

But the iphone keyboard is crap, it's better than the stock prior to jellybean android keyboard, but nothing beats swift key.

The keyboard ruins just about anything typed.

If I try to type the word "same" it always shows up as se.

The m key is always registered as a delete no matter how long I do it.

Too complex for a phone keyboard.

----------

You would think that since android is outselling your phones you would take some cues from android and steal some (more) features

S not the keyboard that's crap, it's meant for one hand use not two hands and its narrow and not as wide as most high end phones so if you're a big dude with big fingers you're gonna mess up bit the keyboard has spacing by default swift key doesn't and you has less errors on swiftly not due to swiftly but due to the fact you're using a wider phone.

Use swiftkey on a 4 inch android phone like the incredible or evo design and get back to me. Swiftkey isn't that great to me accuracy wide when typing those large screen phones do wonders.

I've recommended and used swiftkey on a friends vibrant and nexus s. Both of them are exactly 4". Swiftkey works amazingly on both.

I don't know what you're talking about.

Sounds like a poor excuse to make up for ios' horrible keyboard. The iOS keyboard is equally bad at predicting and auto correcting on the ipad. I often get missed presses too that lead to ridiculous auto corrections.

Your argument is debunked.

The fact that there's no control over personal dictionary and what words to save or not save on ios is already a huge disadvantage.

Oh so your opinion is final? So not matter what people think all that matters is what you think. I don't play games on my phone, so I can't say that iOS has better apps. But it seems it does not matter what I think because "iOS has best apps. Content is king."

Ultimately, what matters to you is the most important thing.

But iOS's library of apps is superior than Android. That's a fact.

I don't agree. Android apps are spread out over a much wider application area. On ios I can't even find app that tallies my in/out call duration. Don't even dream of finding apps to automate your phone like auto-send sms/email when an event happens, call blocking/management etc.
