Seriously debating if an upgrade this year is worth it. I used to wait two years between phones and only jumped from XS Max to 11 Pro Max because of the significantly upgraded cameras and since I'd be taking it on a travel trip (which happened earlier this year prior to COVID). I can 100% tell the difference in camera quality but the overall phone experience obviously didn't change much.

5G UWB is a few hundred feet from my house and the 12 PM would definitely latch onto it on the way to/from work. As for camera upgrades, not sure if 11PM->12PM will be as big of a jump as previously. I'm torn at the moment.

The camera upgrades were a worthy upgrade. Battery as well. The 11 Pro Max was a huge leap. That’s why there’s definitely nothing wrong with staying put this year...unless Apple really has something up their sleeves.

I'd imagine that if a lot of people upgraded from the 2018 iPhone series to the 11 Pro series due to the emphasis on battery life and cameras, they'd focus on those two things again this year.

Well, it all depends. Did they improve them enough where this year’s models could focus on something else. With that said, if they bring Night Mode to the selfie and Ultra wide, that would probably be enough for me.

I'm on a XS 64GB and won't be upgrading this year. It's just likely to be too expensive for the new features that are out there. This'll be the first time I've ever ran a smartphone for more than 2 years, but with prices as they are, it's got to really see 3 years of life before I'll justify forking out again. And to be honest, I'm pretty delighted with my XS. The battery life is still relatively decent and performance is second to none.

A year off paying expensive contracts is certainly welcome.

I went 7 Plus to 8 Plus to XS Max to 11 Pro Max to 11. Every generation got heavier than the last and I found myself regretting every upgrade.

So I bought a refurbished 7 Plus with 128 gb in jet black from Woot.com. There is nothing I miss from the newer phones. Even with 85% battery health it lasts long enough with how much I use it. I always wanted the jet black. It feels great without a case, and I don't worry about it knowing these guys are worth about $200.

The 12 series would have to really wow me, and so far that's looking unlikely. I might just get my battery replaced instead. I do dig the flat sides--I prefer that more masculine design--but whatever. They all do the same things, and I'm not the kind of person who optimizes every little thing in his life.

That's true.

With the way Apple product refreshes have been going recently (iPad Pro 11" 1st->2nd gen with an extra GPU core and LiDAR that nobody really uses, Watch 4->5 with just an AOD and basically the same SoC, 5->6 with SpO2, iPad Air 4 in an iPad Pro 11 1st gen case), there is a chance in my opinion that iPhone 12 may be underwhelming. Maybe it'll be akin to the iPhone 5s to 6 days -- a new outer shell with other marginal improvements that don't really make the YoY upgrade worth it this time around.

As of now it seems like no I probably won't. Like most have said, the 11 Pro Max is a pretty capable phone and is only a year old. The features of the 12 seem very cool (redesign, 5G, upgraded cameras, slightly larger screen for the max version) . But I couldn't really justify dropping 800 or so again ( after trading the phone with apple) with a the 11 pro max still working fine an is in excellent condition. The 12 would really have to WOW me to make me do that. I plan to wait for the fall 2021 iphones not sure it they will call it though the iPhone 12 S or the iPhone 13.

I am on the 7 Plus and i am looking forward to finally upgrading this year.
My problem is that i cannot decide on the 12 pro (6.1) versus 12 pro (6.7). On the one hand i don't want to miss out on the display size and with the 6.1 i will slightly do on 16:9 content for example (watching netflix, youtube, etc.) but on the other hand i don't want to be stuck with a very large and unconfortable phone for at least 2 years.

I have been to the stores and tried out the 11 versus 11 pro max and still cannot make a decision.
The footprint of mine 7plus and the future 6.7 inch phones will probably be the same-ish but i fear the display would be massive.

I guess if the 6.7 inch has more features than the 6.1 other than the screen size i would go for the bigger one, otherwise i would go with the 6.1.

Would love to keep riding out my 2020 SE 128 I got for $250 in the spring, the value is tremendous and I'm not missing Face ID or the notch at all.
If rumors of no 5G on the iPhone 12 Mini are true, then it's a skip for me. That's the only thing I wanted in order to test 5G coverage and speed of carriers in my location. SE2 works really well for me otherwise.

Will probably still do IUP trade-in with my dad's iPhone 11. He kinda hates how big it is.

I currently have 11 Pro Max, and my wife is still on 8+. I will be giving her my phone and downsizing to either the current 5.8 Pro or the new 6.1 Pro - depending on the price and features. The 11 Pro max was my first big phone, and while I liked the bigger screen on a few occasions, I'm not too fond of the phone's size as it does not fit well in my pockets, and overall it is more cumbersome to use. The smaller size far more outweighs, the bigger screen's benefits (battery was never a concern for me on my previous smaller phones).

I jut purchased iPad pro 11 inch 2020 couple of days back, and plan to go for early recontract with my local telco for iPhone 12 pro max. I am a Samsung user since Galaxy S2 days and pretty sick of Samsung/android.. currently using note 10 plus.

Sticking with my 8+ until it dies and it is running very strong. I'm working from home until at least next summer so 5G won't matter much to me anyways. When I eventually do upgrade it will be a no brainer.

This Year = 2020 - yeah, I will not be buying it..simply because there is no where I can move out this year. What's the fun in buying a new phone and staying at home all the time..

Hoping things will start to improve next year and if that happens, will go for an upgrade.

I'm happy with my 2020 SE and I want the new iPad Air, so I'm happy to wait until the 12s next year.

I would love to upgrade to the 12 mini for the new design and the smaller size. I really like my 11, but it is so BIG, and I am not a fan of faceID. But, the 12 has an OLED display which really bothered my eyes when I tried that type of display out back when the XS came out.... so I have to stick with either my 11 or go to the SE 2020.

No touch ID = no iPhone 12. I'll then go for iPhone SE (2020).
With the power button TouchID on Air 4, I'm really looking forward to a notchless TouchID iPhone either with extended display or reduced chassis size. Bonus, it's likely gonna go to the "budget" iPhones.

I’ll gladly take TouchID over FaceID if it means no notch, true edge to edge screen.

The 11 Pro is perfect. Perfect! I don't use a case because why deprive myself of the phone's perfection? Ok, if they give the new phone a USB-C I will upgrade. The lightning port is not perfect. Indeed, that is why I cannot bring myself to use that port. It's a problem, perfection. Cheers!
