8 Plus here... I've always upgraded every 2 years (though I've had this one for almost 3 years now). Battery health is still fine, as is the overall performance. The only thing that will motivate me to upgrade is if they bring back TouchID (or if this one dies). I'm not totally against FaceID (love it on my iPad Pro 12.9), but I like having TouchID on my phone.

I'm happy with my 2020 SE and I want the new iPad Air, so I'm happy to wait until the 12s next year.

Yeah, the new iPad Air is on my radar for sure. Definitely ready for preorder whenever it does release. I’m still going to be tempted by the 12 mini for its size as I prefer smaller phones, but I don’t know. My 11 Pro works just fine and I may just get the SE 2020 when I’m able to since Walmart is offering that $199 deal.

Not. Putting a new battery in my original SE. 2gen SE bigger than I’d like. 5.4” 12 underwhelming for the money.

No I'm not. I have the 11 Pro and very happy. i pay for my phone outright so i don't upgrade every year

I have a almost 3 year old Iphone X, which I really love. I used to care a lot about each new iteration of the phone, dutifully upgrading every two years. Of course, I started with the 4s, so I was already on the off year, at least in terms of how they used to do big upgrades every two years, with the S variant coming out in between. My Iphone X is fading, the battery needs to be replaced, (88%), and the lightning connector no longer connects. I have been using a charging pad, which is fine, but a paid when you are out and don't have one handy.

Part of me wants to just replace the battery and get the port fixed instead of spending $$$ on a new phone when they come out.

Are there any other Iphone X owners who are going to replace batteries/fix small problems instead of upgrading? I don't know why, but I feel that updating my 1st Gen Ipad Pro 9.7 would be more important that a new Iphone.

Curious is anyone else has this dilemma.

I will wait to see the new iPhones this years, but the rumors are so disappointing that I am around 95% ready to switch and upgrade my launch day X to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. But we will see soon!

Having to wait these extra months, unless they doing something for the iphone upgrade people, I am just going to keep my current phone.

Is this some mechanical issue that you know about for sure? I had an issue with the lightning port in my 6 some years ago and it was enough to remove the residue from the port to make it work like new again.

But anyways, I totally understand your point. My X still works just as on day 1 when it comes to how smooth it is, so no complaints here. However, my battery is at 81%, so I usually have to charge during the day to make it through and I also want better cameras, especially the ultra-wide lens and the night mode would be nice. However, if all the rumors turn out to be true, I will not be able to justify spending so much on an iPhone which does not feel new enough to me.

Every time I read an update about the iPhone 12, I realize once again how little interest I have in it. I can't see how anyone would update if they already have an iPhone from the last couple of years. Some people will want 5G. But, the truth is, that's not much of a real-world need - at least not yet.

I've always upgraded every two years since my first iPhone 4, but I think this year will be the first time I'm not upgrading on a regular schedule. I'm still happy with my XS, and the rumored iPhone 12 just hasn't intrigued me like the phones in the past have. I feel like smartphones may have reached their peak, and there's no longer much of a compelling reason to upgrade as often for most people.

11ProMax here and no plans to upgrade ... in my home area I get <1MBs download at 5 bars with Verizon, so 5G will not give me anything, plus all the other rumored features, nice, but not worth it for me

I am not 100% sure it's mechanical- may bring into a store to check. I have tried virtually every online solution and nothing has worked. I assume it's fixable- it has not really been a big issue because I am WFH for now. The lightning port and battery are more annoyances than anything else. The basic phone works great and screen still looks great. Intrigued by better cameras but I am a horrible photographer and no camera is going to fix that.

To add onto that, 5G in the United States is not a major improvement in terms of speed. Maybe if you were in Asia or the Middle East but mainly in the US it’s marketing and profit move.

My Xs Max has 88% battery health after 750 cycles so I am quite happy with the device. If the pro models have 120hz, I might upgrade.

I won’t rule out upgrading to the 12 series from my 11 but I doubt I will upgrade in 2020. I’d rather wait till early 2021, till around feb for the new galaxy S series flagship to be announced and if that doesn’t interest me then it’s a possibility I’ll upgrade to one of the 12 series. Or wait for the 13/2021 iPhones depending on the rumours. Honestly I’d rather my next phone have a refresh rate higher than 60, so it’s likely I’ll go for the S21 or wait for the 13 but we will see.

I'm not too impressed from the new iphone 12 max, no usb c, a smaller battery than the iphone 11, no 120 hz screen, no touch id (we will be wearing masks for probably another year).

The phone feels like a iphone 11 with a smaller battery, squared off edges and FINALLY a 1080p screen and not that awful 720p screen, but you gotta try a bit harder apple...

Upgrading to iOS 14. Not yet Waiting for a few updates. As there are problems with battery life etc
Also widgets are in short supply Apple needs to provide more widgets
I’m sure third party developers are working on them

Hopefully it’s nothing too major, do you plan on taking to Apple? Or a 3rd party repair center? Let us know what ends up happening.
Going back to the iPhone 12 for second, obviously until Apple announces it and we actually know all the details, we can’t be too certain.
my main thing is every year upgrades are expensive. This year has been quite the year for a lot of people, myself included, and if I’m going to shell out a lot of money for a phone, I really need a game changer. Fortunately I have a pretty decent phone that just needs a new battery and I’ll be good as new.
But I am curious and excited to see that’s coming out!

I'm still using a 64 gb XS. No issues except battery isn't great at 89% health.
Have apple care plus so can replace... I am constantly having to delete stuff for space and always have to be near charger. Will see how new phone looks.

Yeah let's see how the new phone looks. I remember last year so many people complaining about the lackluster phone the 11 was going to be and then after it was announced it met with almost universal approval. Time will tell.

No, not upgrading this year. I do not see any compelling reason why, the 11 pro max is the first big phone I’ve owned and works great. I like the iPad Pro look, but that isn’t going to persuade me this time around.

The only one that *might* nudge me to upgrade is the iPhone Mini (or whatever the heck they decide to call it). But even then if it still has the yuge notch and no TouchID option to be found, I think I'll stick with my 8+ for yet another year.

Still looking forward to the October 13th event though.
