5G is just pointless outside of major or big regional cities here, in my work travels i am lucky to get 3G sometimes lol.

This is very true! Down here in South Africa 5G is slowly deploying in places like here in Johannesburg, as well as Cape Town and Durban, but it’s deployment is very limited to highly populous neighborhoods and business districts.

I feel like most people don’t really even care for it, the last time people truly cared for this sort of thing was when 3G arrived with features like Video Calling, the phones began coming with front cameras for video calls, there was a tangible difference that people could latch on to and networks could sell it, now everyone has Fibre to the home and there is public WiFi while 4G+ is also pretty widely available and reliable, so the question asks is why exactly do I even need 5G? Personally I know I would turn it off as my particular network provider does not have it deployed in my area yet.

Going into the rural parts of South Africa there is pretty decent 3G coverage unless you are going to an incredibly remote place like The Karoo or Kruger National Park which has parts that literally have no signal at all. Considering the downsides of mmWave 5G I do wonder how they plan on making it work well for most people.

Still unsure . I need to see how these new iPhones look before I make a decision. I have a 128 GB iPhone 11 that I got back in February. Works great of course . I wouldn’t mind having a higher resolution screen, but im not dying for it. so i have a wait and see attitude about it currently . Maybe if Apple offers a decent amount of trade in value for my phone , I’d be inclined to upgrade

I'm not. I had bad luck with two 5G Android devices and I'm just not willing to try an iPhone with it yet. I also really don't like the boxy sides on the 12, I absolutely hated the 5 body style. I'm enjoying jailbreak on my 11 Pro Max currently.

I'll see where next year takes me.

I had planned to upgrade my XS Max to the 12 Pro Max but as more leaks came out I became less interested (smaller battery, no 120Hz screen)in upgrading to it.

Now I’m just waiting for the iPhone 12 lineup announcement to see what type of deals will be offered by my carrier to get rid of old iPhone 11 Pro Max stock since I’m very interested in the long battery life, upgraded camera, and brighter screen.

Planning to skip this year’s phone. Still rocking an antique 6s Plus and will keep doing so for another year Why?

1. Because I work from home, so I don’t need a very portable device.

2. I spend all my screen time on either my iMac or my iPad Pro 12.9. The experience is so much nicer than looking at a phone screen.

3.If I were to get a new phone, it would be the 12 Mini (5.4”). But for the mini size, a notchless design is preferable. Omens say that next year, the notch and lightning port are gone, in favour of all-screen and portless design. Possibly we’ll see 120 hz display then, too.

4.My old 6s Plus has not been hobbled by updates to iOS. It still supports all features I care about.

Those are the reasons I’m holding on. But it might happen that the 12 mini seduces me and I renege on my planned sales resistance.

Zero reason to upgrade from my 11 Pro Max unless we get a 120hz display and a MUCH better camera. If not, Im going to get out of this iUP program and keep my Note 20 Ultra.

I've posted several times in posts like these. I decided I will not be upgrading this year, my wife and I have the iPhone X and they work just fine with no issues. Also, I just upgraded my iPad so I don't see a need for a new phone in the near future.

I had no plans on upgrading this year. Just making my last payment on my Xs and then this shows up!!!

I hate to admit how long it took me to figure out what was wrong with that picture
lol

That happened to a friend but the line was down the middle. He used it for months until the 11 came out.

What device do you have, and why are you not planning on upgrading?

I am thinking of buying an SE 2020 and just sticking with that for at least a year or so.. cheap, affordable and does the job.

Bounced around from phones and settled on an 8+ and I will probably keep this until it needs a battery or gets damaged.

Nope have 512gb pro Max midnight green with 97% battery left. Had it since launch. No point in upgrading unless a major upgrade.

I was debating getting a 12 Pro Max and the deciding factor would have been 120HZ. 5G is meaningless in Canada since our LTE +/Advanced speeds already exceed other countries’ low/mid band 5G speeds.

Since 120HZ is not happening I decided to get AppleCare+ at the end of my 1 Year warranty for my 11 Pro Max. I now have another 2 years in the event next year is also a disappointing update. Still very happy with the battery, performance, and camera of the 11 Pro Max.

Upgrading comes to mind all the time cause of MacRumors it's just that I really can't ask for much when I have an 11 Pro Max I still feel like my phone has the latest features even when a new model comes out

Well just wait until Apple surprises us all once again when the time comes

Im one of the vulnerable of Apple followers haha

11 Pro (5.8", not Max). I'm most likely not upgrading. I'm not going to fully decide until the devices have actually been announced. That's mainly because there's been so much back and forth regarding leaks over the past few months. 120hz / ProMotion would be the main push for me to upgrade, but it seems that is most likely off the table? I picked up a OnePlus 7 Pro from Swappa a few weeks ago and have been using it around the house. The 90hz display is rather good.

No, I upgraded my iPad to the 11’ Pro & am waiting the apple watch 6 to arrive, having an iPhone 11 Pro Max it seems silly to upgrade when it’s only been a year and I have a year left in contract.

Keeping my paid off XS Max in mint condition. I may do a battery replacement and keep this for at least another two years.

Apple is letting their devices age properly following the string of lawsuits. No real reason for me to drop another $1,000 when I have a perfectly good, fast phone in my hands.

I stated earlier that I sold my 11 PRO and I’m using an 8 due to personal issues this year, but I will be upgrading.......to my brothers XS with a brand new battery, he took the BOGO offer from Verizon.

yeah. It sucks but that’s about how long I will keep it too and then get a new one. Not sure how much i can get for this one now though.

I’m torn. But I’ll really come down to if there is a feature that really makes it worth selling my 11 Pro Max and paying a couple hundred dollars more on the 12 Pro Max. If it’s just a design change and 5G, I’m going to try to hold out.
