Not upgrading. My 6S has a nice screen, works well, and features a sporty analog jack that works well with my noise cancelling headphones, stereo system, or the audio system in my vehicle. Outside of using it from time to time as a hotspot or getting driving directions, my phone is, well, a phone.
It’s kinda funny because the “redesign” is basically “hey. We’re gonna use a recycled iPhone 5 frame with a notch!” It’s not some crazy rethink of how phones are supposed to look. It’s hard for me to get really excited over it. I actually think the current design and the curved edges look better and feel better in the hand than squared off edges.

And 5g I just can’t...my xs max gets speeds rivaling my home internet. And all I do is watch some YouTube, look stuff up and reddit. So 5g, especially in the first iteration, won’t even be noticeable to me. Like what...it’s gonna load the same YouTube video a split second faster? A YouTube video already loads in 1 second for me.

And then...what? Lidar? I have that on my iPad and never use it. Camera? I can already take pics good enough to blow them up and get prints. Battery? It’s supposed to actually be smaller this year. But maybe it’ll get more hours? Idk.

I feel like we’ve kinda peaked with phones and if I kept my phone for a few more years it wouldn’t even be noticeable

100% hit the nail on the head.

What device do you have, and why are you not planning on upgrading?

I am thinking of buying an SE 2020 and just sticking with that for at least a year or so.. cheap, affordable and does the job.
The SE 2020 was my first iphone and I love it, especially the size. I'm not a power user, other than podcasts and music, which it does very well.

I use a Galaxy S8 and the wife has an iPhone 11. I plan to upgrade to the iPhone 13, 14 or 15, depending on how long these phones last until the batteries are depleted beyond usability. I'll not buy another Android phone unless Apple releases an iTunes Movies for Android.

An OLED 256GB+ iPhone with no notch and a 4000mAh+ battery, wireless charging would be the minimum checkboxes to ensure. High refresh/foldable would be nice.

I have a Pixel 3a XL. Will remain away from Apple until Apple finally decides that the fugly camera bump is no longer a design feature and gets rid of it. My previous phone, which I used as my primary phone from 2015 to 2019, is a 6s+.

that is never gonna happen. the optics are too advanced to shrink down.

Put another way, if you want no bump you need either a smaller sensor or a thicker phone. And the first of those degrades image quality, so you want the second - which would be good technically (allows a much bigger battery) but runs counter to Apple's aesthetic choices (though not only Apple's aesthetic, and of course would produce a slew of reviews complaining about how thick it was).

although i have been wanting and waiting for a dark blue phone since forever, i decided to wait until September 2021 to upgrade.
so i had a new battery installed in my iPhone 6s. like new again.
can't stand the notch.
and i like it that i have the lightest weight iPhone as well.

I've a Pixel 2 with an ageing battery, will probably upgrade next year but might consider this one. I appreciate the greater openness and flexibility of Android (I know that's heretical with many here), but with the 12 series I am considering the iPhone for the first time in a decade. And the reasons are the iOS14 UI improvements (though it's still rather constrained), the improving privacy features (anything that pisses-off Facebook has to be a positive) and the size of the 5.4" model (nothing available with high-end specs at that size in Android land). The longer software support period helps too.

Probably won't happen this year, unless my current phone degrades too far or Google annoy me just a little bit too much. And if next year the rumours of a "zero ports, everything wireless" model come true then it will never happen (conversely a switch to USB-C would be a plus, as I'm trying to simplify my cable collection, but I don't believe that for a second). But it is a possibility, which is a novel development for me, and I am actively following this device.

Have the XR and it just works. I'm looking at an Apple Watch Cellular either 3 or 5 so I don't have to have the phone with me all the time.

I might downsize from 11 Pro Max. My wife could use an upgrade to replace her 8 Plus. After almost a year with 11 Pro Max size phone, I am not too thrilled with the size. I use my phone for very few limiting tasks and though that bigger size would be better, but that does not seems to be the case for me. I will see what Apple will offer as far as smaller sizes and then decide.

I have an iPhone 6 I got in 2017, it still runs but with a few problems. If the iPhone 12 makes sense and seems like a viable phone. then I am definitely going for an iPhone 12 Pro as an upgrade or otherwise an iPhone 11 Pro or an iPhone SE 2020 variant.

i have the small 8, it’s a good phone but the battery life is bad now (replacement could solve it) and i take a lot of photos and the 2 extra lenses and better quality would be handy, so i’m interested in the new camera tech a then i’ll decide, otherwise i think that the 11 pro will be a better option (cheaper, good battery life, fast charging brick in the box)

I think this is going to be a big year year for upgrading the iPhone. I don’t necessarily have to upgrade my XS Max but unless something looks disappointing I will

certainly not. i am using iphone x since the day 1 launch date. iphone 12 pro max. take my $$$!!!!

I keep hearing that. I have faith in technology advancing sufficiently in the next 10-20 years or so.

Yeah, I can wait.

Can't speak so much to their laptops/desktops, but for me, Apple's portables feel like they're build to last. Will hopefully get 5+ years out of my XR (had a 6 from 2014-19) and my Series 3 (my first Apple watch)

I have an iPX. I upgrade, if I'm going to upgrade, in December. Since the "new" iPhone isn't out yet, there's no way to say whether it'll be worth bothering with.

I'm in the same boat; iPhone X, battery capacity is 92%, so it's in very good shape (and still physically looks brand new). I don't think I need to upgrade, but if I do, I'm leaning towards the smallest iPhone 12. I don't want to get a larger phone, as would be the case if I got the 6.1". We'll see how I feel after the keynote, whenever that is.

I've been using a 2016 SE, and then my wife's hand-me-down. If the smaller iPhone 12 is similar enough in size to the SE, I'll buy it. Otherwise I'll hold off as I have no need to replace my X.
