I used to wait until our iPhones died before upgrading because I was buying used and jailbreaking them to work on T-Mo. Now it depends on the deal. We never get the newest model. We got the 6S Plus when it was BOGO at AT&T. Got the XR on New Years Eve when Apple had them discounted and had a good trade in amount for the 6S Plus that rivaled the resale value/hassle.

Thinking about switching to Verizon to get the combined discount on FiOS, and they’ve got SE 2020 free. Spouse would like a smaller iPhone again and the 8 the teen is using has a tiny crack.

Not sure what I want - I‘m more focused on the first Apple Silicon MacBook to replace my 2011 iMac.

I originally intended to upgrade this year from my 11PM but the rumours are not doing much to entice me.

I am looking for a reduction in the notch, high refresh screen and a serious step in the cameras before dropping more $$.

My XS is still good. I want to see the new 12 5.4” because I‘m using most my iPad Pro 12.9 than iPhone for everything and I want to went back to a smaller phone. Only doubt is about battery life, hoping that camera could be at least as good as the XS’ one.

I had a 6s+ and traded it in for a iPhone 8 plus second hand from a trusted firm in the UK cost £320 for 64. Actually I had to have three sucks at the orange as the first one they sold my would not do Apple Pay, the second one was not stable with the screen jumping about not all the time but enough to make it unusable so I rejected it for No3 which is fine. The company was most helpful and gave V good service. Mobile Reborn is their name for our UK readers.

I'm strongly leaning towards not upgrading. I usually keep both an iPhone and an Android phone, and the Z Fold 2 looks way more exciting to me than the apparent rehash of the iPhone 11 with a Lidar sensor (does anyone actually do that fake AR furniture positioning thing more than once?).

I have a Pixel 3a XL. Will remain away from Apple until Apple finally decides that the fugly camera bump is no longer a design feature and gets rid of it. My previous phone, which I used as my primary phone from 2015 to 2019, is a 6s+.
You will miss call screen terribly if you leave that Pixel! I make the assistant answer at least 75% of my calls. I switch back and forth more than I change my grundies LMAO

Not upgrading here. 11ProMax. Very Happy.

I really like the 6.5 phone size it’s just right.

I will be finished paying it off in Oct and then it’s a free year with no payments. I upgrade every other year.

I find it feel more of an upgrade, more worth the high price tag this way.

On an iPhone X.

On the fence about upgrading. Based on what the rumours are saying probably not, but I’ll wait and see what they come out with.

I have a xs max 256gb that I bought on launch day. Do not see a reason to upgrade. Its still very fast. Does everything I want it to... Has a big oled screen, decent cameras, looks current. Would like a better battery life but it's manageable. Capacity is still at 89%.

And with ios14, it'll be as good as a new device. Will probably go for one of the 2021 iphones.
Same. This year i will save money and get sim only plan. XS Max is still great device.

My iPhone X does everything I need it to for now. We'll see what comes with the new announcement, but I'm not in a hurry to upgrade.

The new 5G models probably would be technically leapfrogged quickly.
I would get on the new 4G models. Am on XS Max now.

5G is a gimmick. I’m not going to notice a difference in cellular data speed compared to LTS, which has worked perfectly fine for everything I needed to do with my 11 Pro Max while away from Wi-Fi.

120Hz is a gimmick. The scrolling on my iPhone looks perfectly smooth.

LiDAR is a gimmick. Its purpose is to improve AR, but so far there’s no killer app for AR.

So I’m not upgrading just for the faster processor. I’ll wait for next year and the rumored 40+ MP camera with optical zoom.

I agree with you that 5G is not worth it right now purely from the standpoint of crazy speeds (unless you sit under a mmWave tower), but the additional spectrum can mean better signal in places where you may have dropped before or gone out of 4G LTE signal. 90/120Hz is not a gimmick - Apple themselves are using it on the iPad Pro. Definitely makes things smoother, but right now it's unclear if this will even be included on the 12.

LiDAR is absolutely a solution searching far and wide for some kind of problem to solve. I'm lost as to why Apple has leaned so hard on this junk, there must be some exec that absolutely loves giving or watching AR demos on stage. That's about all it's good for.

I'm on the 11 Pro. Depends on what new features come out. If there's a meaningful upgrade to the camera setup (not just Lidar) and the screen, then I may go for it as I'm on the iPhone upgrade plan. If not, maybe I'll just hang on to it. That said, I'm interested in going back to a Plus/Max size model, so I may end up upgrading regardless.
