I currently have a hardly working old SE, batter problems, have to charge twice a day, but can only dream of upgrading with even the basic new SE at over £400, that's more than ½ month pension 😩😩

Definitely upgrading and "praying" even though I am not a praying person, that the iPhone12 is just a better phone.
I've owned every single iPhone outside of the SE models and this 11 Pro Max is at the absolute bottom of my list of phones.
It aggrivates me on the daily. It may be the hardware, it may be the software, but either way this particular combination of the two has me at a frustration point I have never experienced in 13 yrs of these phones.

My wife and I have both have the XS, bought at the release. Nothing wrong with them honestly; they do everything we want them to do and the battery life is still really good but, may just upgrade anyway.

I don't think I can justify upgrading this year.

Don't care about 5G, 120HZ or whatever camera upgrade. I was more interested in a smaller notch.
I might just wait it out until Apple releases a no notch and small bezels iPhone.

I have a XS Max that I bought new on release in 2018. Battery life is at 94%. Has been in a Otterbox Defender since day one, so still in like-new condition. Planning to keep it until new iPhones release in 2022, so a four year cycle!

I’ve upgraded yearly but with the 11 and night mode plus wide angle cameras I don’t see anything intriguing me. 5G is still years away from being a game changer. This phone does everything I need it to. Of course I’m sure I’ll be tempted to talk myself into the 12 at some point but I’m really happy with this device

I just replaced the screen and battery on my iphone 8 plus. I'm good for at least another year. This year doesn't seem very interesting for me, I had bought a iphone 11 and returned it within a week since it didn't actually seem any different with my usage. 120htz screen would make scrolling through reddit a more enjoyable experience but other than that, I don't have reason to upgrade.

It’s kinda funny because the “redesign” is basically “hey. We’re gonna use a recycled iPhone 5 frame with a notch!” It’s not some crazy rethink of how phones are supposed to look. It’s hard for me to get really excited over it. I actually think the current design and the curved edges look better and feel better in the hand than squared off edges.

And 5g I just can’t...my xs max gets speeds rivaling my home internet. And all I do is watch some YouTube, look stuff up and reddit. So 5g, especially in the first iteration, won’t even be noticeable to me. Like what...it’s gonna load the same YouTube video a split second faster? A YouTube video already loads in 1 second for me.

And then...what? Lidar? I have that on my iPad and never use it. Camera? I can already take pics good enough to blow them up and get prints. Battery? It’s supposed to actually be smaller this year. But maybe it’ll get more hours? Idk.

I feel like we’ve kinda peaked with phones and if I kept my phone for a few more years it wouldn’t even be noticeable

I wish it were true that they recycled the iPhone 5 frame and made a full screen with notch.
I'd upgrade to 12 for sure! Have a feeling it's going to still be too big and for the price not worth the upgrade.

I have a 256GB Pro Max on iUP and I think I’m just gonna pay it off. If we get 120Hz I might reconsider, but... I really like this phone!

Nope. Got myself a Xs and it does everything I need. I’ve been on a four year cycle since the 4s and that seems right. Both my 4s and 6s had the batteries replaced once and I suspect it will be the same for the Xs. The camera on the Xs is solid and nothing I do with it stutters or stalls so, why upgrade?

If there isn’t the combination of 120hz and 5G on the Pro model this will be the first year I don‘t upgrade. I normally don’t mind that Apple is slightly behind on the “new” phone features when compared to other brands, but the gap seems to be getting wider. Fingers crossed both are there, not really a reason they shouldn’t be.

^----- This! Plus, I'm only interested in a bigger screen. Don't want a notch, want to retain a home button.

If my 8 were to die, I'd get another 8 or 8 Plus unless there was some super-duper deal on somethign else.

I would say never say never. However, I am finding it hard to justify buying an iPhone 12 when I already have an 11 pro max. Even upgrading from the xs max to the 11 pro max there was no feeling of a new experience. I know that ios is ios but when getting a new phone I want it to feel new. I am not back to the belief that the only way to satisfy that is to have both iPhone and Android.

No - but will be replacing the battery in my XR - now at about 89%. I find the whole smart phone thing to not interest me any more, but my XR is very useful in a limited way. Will then see where things are at in 2022 if my interest returns.

LOL your guess is as good as mine. 2020 has been my year of phone indecision (along with a lot of other stuff). I have the SE2020, and I am not really tempted by the 12s thus far. I’m on the fence about maybe going to an 11 pro if the price is right, but I’m honestly even torn about that.

I have to do something in the next few months because I promised my granddaughter my SE2 at the end of the year (When I got it in the spring, it was with the intention of passing it on to her when 12s came out). Whether it’ll be a 12, a discounted 11 pro, or just buy her a new SE2 and keep this one is anyone’s guess at this point. ;-p

That is the attitude I‘m really trying to have. It’s so far from the upgrade every year mindset I’ve had since the first iPhone, but I AM working on it.

I wish I had that type of willpower to not upgrade. I never buy anything expensive except an iPhone every year and an iPad every 3-5 years. It’s just something about unwrapping the plastic on a new iPhone.

I currently have the 8+. Have had this device for about a year now. It may not be the latest and greatest but it's still a super good phone that does everything I want it to do (e.g. streaming videos, gaming, texting, calling and web browsing) without any problems. Also, battery life is still great. I charge it every other day.

Thus, I have no need to spend extra money on a phone!

I totally get it! There is something about taking that plastic off. I love new Apple tech!!
