iPhone Anyone try unlocked a CDMA 4s w/ the 5.1.1 jailbreak?

my phone has been making so many problems. Maybe I'm gonna sell it and get an ATT phone instead. I guess I'm done here, I won't mess with this thing anymore

same here.. there are alot of flaws with this unlock. Having problems for 3 days.. I love the iphone 4s so much though.. dont wanna switch to another phone

no, I am from USA
I have gotten it to work a few times... using same steps.. but it is NOT consistent. Sometimes it will work this way, sometimes it wont.. it's really frustrating.
NOTE: when i was on 5.0.1, i got everything working.. mms, etc. so i know how the process goes. It's just the 5.1.1 unlock isnt as stable. But my battery life on 5.0.1 was bad compared to now
What method did you use?
I'm having trouble with mms as well actually.. it was working fine on 5.0.1, but keeps wanted to revert back to Vodafone default (I guess Verizon). I tried deleting a different carrier bundles folder but had to restore because I got an activation prompt after that.
What you need to unlock iPhone 4S Verizon
- iPhone 4S
- X-SIM or gevey
- iFunbox for file browser
Step 1:
- Connect your 4S with iFunbox
- Go to ar/wireless/Library then delete file carrier_310VZW_20404_11.2.plist
- Go to /System/Library/Carrier Bundle/iPhone delete folder Zeppelin_US.bundle and delete your sim card carrier bundle ( my Sim card is CMCC so I have to delete folder CMCC_cn.bundle )
Step 2:
- JB your 4S, in cydia add source http://repo.bingner.com
- Install SAM
- Put your sim card ( without X-Sim or gevey )
- When the phone recognize your Sim card then go to Settings/SAM
- Enable: ON (Auto method)
- Hacktivate: On
- Your phone will be Hacktivated
Step 3:
- Take your sim out from iPhone and put back together with gevey
- Restart your phone
Step 4:
- Put your sim card ( with X-Sim or gevey) into 4S
- Lets the 4S detect Sim
- Go to Setting/General/About and check, carrier will be Not Available
- Go to Setting/SAM then OFF and ON Hacktivate fast
- Go to About again and carrier will be vf nl 11.0
- Then go to SAM do OFF and ON very fast

No furiousmod or other cydia tweaks needed? (besides SAM).
Looks like there are many ways to do the unlock lol. I am running with furiousmod now and i can send SMS, but may run into problems when i reboot. Never had to use the SAM tool.. even without a verizon sim card.
Just glancing at this i already am seeing problems.
Although SAM might work on older firmware version, Apple released 5.1.1 with a patch for this method and it no longer works. The last generation of gevey's used this free exploit, but after it was patched the gevey no longer worked and applenberry had to refund everyone. I'm pretty sure it only works with pre ios 5.0 or 5.0.1 users. not 100% sure on that though.
Also, you can't delete your carrier bundle in step 1, because it must be jailbroken before you can see those files in ifunbox.
jdmz - can you message me your EXACT steps? I went to that site you posted up a while back with the instructions that were in horrible broken english and really didn't make much sense at times. I followed the steps 2-3 times and am still having trouble with the activation screen. Everytime i get everything finished and pop the gevey in and reboot it shows the apple logo, and then i get an activation screen every single time. How do i bypass this screen? I even tried dialing 112 in the emergency call and then canceling and going back to the call to get to the home screen, and it went right back to the activation screen. Then the cops called me and said they had a hang up call from. So don't try that method, lol.
Just purchased an R-SIM III for 10$ off ebay. It seems that more users on facebook are having luck with this interposer over the gevey. Not to mention it's a 5th of the price.
i didnt write u to unlock using SAM,i know apple fixed it,i live outside US and have a verizon iphone 4s,first i jailbroken it then installed furiousmod then my iphone got unlocked via Ultra sim s but the problem was i never got signal bars plus some unlock problems as the one u had,and then i found this post which i pasted here,not knowing what iam doin i followed those steps 1 by one and my iphone now is unlocked and fully working with the signal bars too,i just copied this post and pasted it here trying to help,iam not the original writer or discoverer of this way,it just worked with me,i even used itools not ifunbox or whatever(www.itools.hk),u have nothing to lose,try it
I uninstalled both commcenter patch and i4s network package and it still works... So it is working with only Furiousmod installed.

I had calls and SMS working.. but then I restarted and now im unable to get SMS! This sucks.. ive been tinkering with this crap for a few days now.
Let me know how the RSIM III turns out. Looking at the ebay listings, the RSIM III has "Gevey ultra S" written on it so.... is it the same thing?

I got BOTH SMS and MMS working. MMS is just a matter of entering the correct mms settings in your cellular data network settings. If you do not have that tab, install tetherme from cydia.
SMS.. it works, but if I reboot, the SMSC number will be changed +7 again and will not work anymore. For some reason, dialing the **5005.... trick doesn't work. It probably is a bug with the Gevey Ultra S multi-network sim. The only way I know to fix this problem is to "reset network settings" and try again.

Can you provide some specific of what you changed in network setting using tetherme? I can get SMS working but I have to reboot several times in order to send SMS (receiving SMS seems to always work). No mms or iMessage

It depends on your sim card carrier. For tmobile, it is:

Username: Leave Blank
Password: Leave Blank

Just open a microphone recording and then tap on the top recording message when you get pushed back to the activation screen. The other guy says you can just restart the iPhone and wait for signal bars though.
Yea I get activation sometimes when it takes too long to get signal. When this happens, I restart and try again. Sometimes, it will get through activation for no reason... Just click next.
The microphone trick does work.. And so does the 112. Just wait till you get signal... Even when you are on activation screen, the Gevey is still working if it says. "Searching..." or "No service". When you are getting bars without a carrier, you are connected I Verizon/sprint and will need to restart or reinstall commcenter or furious mod.
This also happens with my ATT 4S on 5.1.1. On 5.1 I could send and receive SMS normally, but on 5.1.1 sometimes I can't send SMS.
On 5.1 when I turned Cellular Data ON, I had the E icon next to the carrier. 5.1.1 has nothing :-s

For those of you having the activation screen problem, make sure the sim card is currently activated. I thought I was having a problem until I threw in an activated sim. My apologies if you know this already. It just happens to be a place I got stuck.

5.0.1 seems a lot better if you plan to use it with one of these cdma GEveys. I would keep it at 5.0.1 until the 5.1.1 unlock seems more reliable.

Open carrier.plist with Notepad and search for this:
<key>VoicemailPilotNumber</key>
<string>PHONE NUMBER</string>
delete the "Phone Number" and make it look like this

Save and open with notepad again to make sure that the number is deleted.
If it's not, copy carrier.plist to your computer and edit. Then copy it back to phone.
