5.0.1 seems a lot better if you plan to use it with one of these cdma GEveys. I would keep it at 5.0.1 until the 5.1.1 unlock seems more reliable.

I've already done a verizon phone for my daughter last week, jailbroken/unlocked for tmobile, so far so good. I'm trying to decide to either keep this one for myself or flip on ebay to offset the cost on hers. I've got a galaxy vibrant, no real reason to change over besides the fact that I need to upgrade to 2.2 for my mlb.tv (which actually pisses me off).

Just open a microphone recording and then tap on the top recording message when you get pushed back to the activation screen. The other guy says you can just restart the iPhone and wait for signal bars though.

So your saying to start the voice recorder right before I insert the gevey and reboot? Will it still be running after I reboot it? I tried the 112 thing and I got passed activation that time. But within seconds it kicked me right back to activation. It always says "searching" after I put the Gevey and my AT&T SIM in and then I will get 2 bars. But it shows 2 bars when any SIM is in the tray. I put just my AT&T SIM in and it showed two bars, along with the inactivated sprint SIM which also showed two bars when inserted. Even when I put in the plain white Reset SIM I get two bars, and I don't get a carrier menu.

I just got the R SIM in today, but one of those white reset SIM's wasn't included, so I'm wondering if it automatically recognizes the Phone it is going into and resets itself or something. I also noticed that it says gevey ultra S on it, which leads me to believe that applenberry doesn't actually make the gevey, but gets it from someone else who also supplies R-SIM.

I agree with gd6, unlock on 5.0.1 is much more stable.
However, if you decide to stay on 5.0.1 you can still save SHSH for 5.1.1 with iSHSHit from Cydia or TinyUmbrella. Highly recommended!

I've only jailbroken/unlocked one phone. It's currently being used with no problems. What issue's are you guys having with the 5.1.1 unlock? Being my first go-around trying to figure out what is making this one harder than previous jailbreak/unlock's. I just don't' have previous experience to draw from. I just figured they all went like this. Thanks.

My experience is that the 5.0.1 just works fully when you follow the instructions included with the gevey. Just jailbreak, install furiousmod, set apn's, done. The 5.1.1 has extra steps and my MMS reverts to vodafone settings if I restart the phone, and extra steps to use voicemail, and things just overall just didn't go as smoothly.

I *still* can't get mine to work, no matter what I do. It is C Spire, activated with C Spire cdma only. I am using the cdma gevey ultra s from applenberry, nothing I do works.

It is 5.1.1, 2.0.12 and it kicks me to activation. I've done carrier removal, SAM bingner repo, commcenter+, furiousmod, I set up the gevey with the proper code that c spire uses, nothing works.

what the **** am I going to do with this worthless phone

Your suppose to activate your phone through itunes after the restore and then delete the folder called carrier bundles with ifunbox then try putting your sim in with the gevey

guys i just restored again, but didnt see an option to activate thru itunes. on the phone it allows me to choose wireless networks or cellular connection only..

any idea? thx

Has anyone done this process using the R-SIM III? If so was it gold or black?

I just received a gold R-SIM III and was going through the steps, but when i get to the part where you go to settings>phone> Sim Applications the SIM Applications never loads. The guy in the video said it might be due to a defective RSIM, but before i send it back i would like to verify this. I have been working on this phone for forever know and have sent back multiple Gevey's. I would like to know if there's anything else i can try before waiting another 4-5 days to get it in.

I also noticed people mentioning the "128K SIM". Is this a requirement for the gevey to work? My SIM is probably 2 years old so i know it's not the latest. Would this effect the outcome?

What is the cspire network code you are using?

edit:
hey guys i finally got it to work.. i kept getting the activation loop just like everyone else. what i did was this:

1. restored the phone to factory settings
2. jailbroke the phone via absinthe version 2.04 and installed furiousmod CDMA 5.1.1
3. downloaded ifunbox and deleted the carrier bundle folder
4. I kept getting the activation loop again
5. used the white sim card that the gevey gave me and reseted the gevey sim and chose Verizon as the option popped up
6. put back my tmobile sim card with the gevey
7. then it worked.
also, i replaced my old sim card with the new tmobile sim card (the micro sim card) and that seemed to help it as well.
so far my SMS is working and phone calls. i have yet to try MMS

Don't reboot or you'll prolly lose SMS.. Other than that, my unlock has. Been working great lately.

In my case with gevey S, the tmobile 128k sim was required from intermittent disconnects... Even on 5.0.1. My cutted sim worked well on my iPhone 4 with gevey and factory unlocked iPhone, but has trouble with gevey S.

I'm pretty sure rsim iii was the sim that recommends using the 128k sim.

Also, has anyone seen some terrible battery life problems? I'm losing about 2% of my battery every few minutes, with auto brightness, iMessages and push notifications and location services off... Basically, every battery saving measure has been taken, and Im barely making it through the day.

Any ideas on why/ how to fix the problem?

I actually got better battery life when i switched from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1.

Try "reset all settings" and then turning off the location service "setting time zone". It will help alot.

I tried your EXACT steps except with my sprint 4S and i still get the activation loop.

When you delete the carrier bundles folder, do you delete the entire folder, or specifically the verizon US file inside the folder?

I am to the point where i am getting the activation loop, but it is showing full service bars and "4G" in the upper left hand corner. yet when i attempt to activate it says that it is an invalid SIM. I heard from various other people that it may be due to the fact that i was using an older AT&T SIM, so i went to AT&T today and got a brand new one, im assuming 128K, and am trying with that and still no luck.

I think it is just a problem with Sprint iPhone's because everyone that seems to get their's working is on Verizon.

Or

The people that are getting it done are leaving out certain steps. I have literally done every different method on this thread, multiple times and still i get the activation loop. When i try the voice memo trick i get no service bars, and am eventually kicked back to the activation loop, where i get my service bars back. There has to be a way around the activation loop.

I guess I got lucky. Bought a verizon 4s with gevey ultra s off craigslist, and got it to work after the first few attempts...been working great for about a week now. I didn't realize that sms/mms stops working after a reboot? That would explain why someone told me they never got a text I sent a few days ago...how do you remedy it after reboot? Go back in and edit apns?

Also - I know it's still far away, but for you gevey users, what do you think will happen when ios 6 is released? Do you think we will have to get new sims from gevey? Or could they make it work with the sims already out there? I know it's up in the air at this point, just thought you guys might have a guess...everything is working great now, but I'm a little worried about not being able to update to ios 6 for a long time because of unlock issues...?

I certainly don't lost SMS after rebooting. My APN/MMS settings seem to reset, but for some reason my internet still works (edge) on t-mobile even though it shows Vodafone's settings.

Yeah, you got very lucky. I have been trying to unlock my sprint 4S for the past month almost everyday trying to new methods that people post, and not one has worked successfully yet.

I would NOT recommend updating to ios 6 right off the bat. It usually takes a month or two for applenberry or r-sim to release a new interposer. The software unlocks usually take another month or two, especially with such a big update.

I have a few questions for those that got their unlock to work.

Did you change any settings in the settings menu after the apple restore through itunes? ie. Data roaming, data useage, TTY (whatever that is)

When you did the restore through itunes, everyone said to "activate through itunes" what exactly does this mean? Do i register the iphone with my itunes account? Itunes won't allow me to FULLy activate the phone, there are still a few things i need to do on the phone after i run through the entire itunes process. ie select a wifi network, use siri, send diagnostic reports to apple etc.

When exactly do you use the reset SIM (if you use one at all). Do i do this after i install cydia and furious mod, before i do anything to the phone, after the jailbreak?

What computer are you using to do all of this? Mac or PC?

Does the iPhone you are tying to use have a Clean ESN?

Has anyone successfully unlocked on a Sprint 4S, and used it with AT&T?

Do the people that unlocked successfully get the activation screen, AFTER they get the "Successful Unlock" message from Gevey? If so, how did you get passed it? If you changed a setting or something prior to installing the gevey in order to avoid this screen what did you do so that you could bypass it?

Everytime i run through the entire process, I get the "unlock successful" screen from Gevey and i write down the code. Usually before i can even accept the unlock it kicks me to activation screen. Sometimes i will even get full service bars and it will say "4G" in the upper right hand corner, as if i were connected to the network. Did this happen to anyone? What did you do to get passed it?

Put the reset sim in right now with you gevey, select Sprint, after selecting sprint remove the sim tray RIGHT AWAY. Open up furious mod, enter the code you wrote down into furious mod, it should have baseband unlocked and data roaming both turned on.

Turn off the phone, turn it on with your gevey + att sim in, and it should connect.

Alright, so i think i got it working now. I did something different though than any method in this thread.

I fully restored my sprint 4S through itunes on 5.1.1

Installed cydia through absinthe

Inserted white reset sim and gevey and selected the sprint network

*Then, rather than deleting the entire carrier bundle, i opened it and open the iphone folder, which brought me to a TON of various carriers. I then deleted the Sprint_US and Sprint_OTA Folders, as well as the 310VZW folder the Zepplin_US folder and the Verizon_OTA Folder.

After that i installed furious mod and the corresponding CDMA package

Then i installed the backspace repo, along with the commcenter patch

then i powered the phone off and installed the gevey/ATT SIM and rebooted

Got the gevey message, wrote down the code and accepted. then i went directly to furious mod app and put the code in

I could make and receive calls fine, but my SMS texts werent going through. I remembered reading about that iglive repo and the network package, so i installed that and rebooted. It prompted me like 10 times that the gevey unlocked it and i accepted, and was never kicked out to the activation screen. Then finally the AT&T popped up and the 4G logo and immediatley received all the texts i had missed while it ras rebooting. I then proceeded to text everyone back with no problems.

I think this method will work if the Sprint or Verizon phone you are using is still activated with a sprint account. The phone i bought was on a delinquent account, and was still linked to it and i think that's what my problem was. Deleting the specific sprint carrier bundles along with the other US CDMA bundles freed up the PRL (Preferred Roaming List) allowing it to be used on the GSM network.

let me know if anyone needs help. Here is the link to the bundles i deleted specifically, and i added a few extra in that i deleted. It's hard to understand but it has worked flawlessly for me. I rebooted a few times and everything is still working great.

That method had nothing to do with the bad MEID. That only matters for trying to activate on the Sprint or Verizon network. You can only attempt an activation by adding the MEID to your online account and dialing *228 or 611. What you must have are the new CDMA iPhone 4S 5.1.1 package from cydia.furiousmod.com and the white reset SIM loaded over the Gevey SIM after you install that package. Then you just choose Sprint USA and replace the white reset SIM with your micro SIM over the Gevey. With Verizon, I don't think you need to choose the carrier. You can go to unlockit.co.nz after in Safari to download the APN settings for your unlocked carrier.

I understand what an IMEI/MEID number is, but this Sprint iPhone was still activated on someones Sprint Account, it was just a delinquent account. And i think that's why i was having issues with activation because the iPhone was rejecting the SIM because it was not a Sprint Sim.

Whenever i deleted the Sprint_USA carrier bundle, The Sprint Carrier Icon disappeared along with the service bars it had, and just said "No Service". So i think by deleting those two carrier bundles the iPhone no longer recognized Sprint as it's carrier. Upon deleting those bundles, along with the VZW and zepplin bundles, I didn't experience a single problem

I'm nots sure if any of that matters. I think resetting the gevey sim to Sprint is what made it work for you. The carrier bundles folder deletion wasn't necessary on 5.0.1, and the only difference I think it makes is that the gevey activation code will not show up unless you delete them in 5.1.1. WIthout the gevey activation code you can't unlock the baseband via furiousmod.

I never got the code and it unlocked. All of a sudden I get TMobile in the corner with bars. It was weird. I was waiting for a code. I think what matters is a 128 "activated" micro card. I never did the white card reset either. I kept getting activation loop until I inserted an "activated" sim card from the carrier I have an account with (TM). Just my .02 :)
