iPhone Anyone try unlocked a CDMA 4s w/ the 5.1.1 jailbreak?

To get MMS and 3G I think. I've just restored and done everything again except leimobile. Now I could send and receive SMS message.
My 3G didn't work, when I enable 3G I lost my signal and it kicked me to the activation screen. That's why I restore my phone again. I don't have data plan and unlimited text anyway so I'm gonna just stop here before I mess something up again
If you use MMS or 3G, this is the best time for you to play with the settings, Cydia tweaks. Because If you mess something up you can restore at anytime. I believe Apple will release an update soon, at that time you won't be able to restore to this jailbreakable firmware.

edit: trying to figure out what all this means, just now learning MMS and SMS. I'm new to jailbreaking/unlocking. So from what I understand, you have SMS but not MMS or 3G. If not on 3G, then what, 2G?
I went to private/var/mobile/library No "Carrier" or "Carrier Bundle.bundle"Thank you so much everyone!!!! It works.
This is what I did:
1/Remove SIM.
2/Put the iphone in DFU mode and restore to 5.1.1 (9B206).
3/Open itunes and let it activate, sync. Close itunes.
4/Open Absinthe 2.0.4 and jailbreak.
5/Open Cydia and add this source cydia.furiousmod.com, then install FuriousMod-4S (the correct version for 5.1.1)
6/Open iFunBox, go to private/var/mobile/Library delete both Carrier and Carrier Bundle.bundle folders.
7/Insert Gevey and your SIM then turn off your iphone (don't need to wait for Gevey's black screen to pop up).
8/Power on, wait until Gevey's black screen pops up and write down the code.
9/Open FuriousMod and type in the code then register.
10/Wait for signal. Done
Going to do a reset and start over. I'll let you know.

sms mms and edge...using t-mobile so no 3g.
anyone who is having sms issues...are you attempting to unlock a cdma phone in a different country than it is from? I tried unlocking a Rogers Canada in USA recently and couldnt get the SMS to work.
t-mobile, in most places in america, uses different spectrums for 3 or 4g that are not supported by the iphone. Some places could get 3g, but mostly, its only Edge, which is like 2.5g, so its an mobile internet thats faster than 2g but slower than 3g.

I was having this same issue. you have to jailbreak with absinthe before you do this step because for some reason you can only see those packages after it has been jailbroken. I also have only found one "carrier" bundle everytime i've tried doing this. There are not two carrier bundles, but only 1 and it says "carrier" and thats really all you see, idk what it says when it's extended.
I'll be trying the method posted above later on, not sure who posted it but it seems like the most in depth method on this thread thus far.
As far as the t-mobile 3G thing goes. I read one place that T-mobile's 3G was not supported on any unlocked iphone. But then i read somewhere else that there was some sort of patch for that. I am thinking that it is only un supported on the CDMA model (if any) because when i gevey unlocked a GSM iphone 4S for one of my friends, her 3G started up right away. Shes been able to send and receive texts and MMS no problems.
Argg.. i hate messing with GEVEY!! Even after sucessfully unlocking it a few times, I always try to do stuff like fix mms, and it ends up messing up my unlock... back to activation loop, etc.....
hours and hours later, it works. I still havent been able to figure out MMS for tmobile yet.
Are you guys missing the tab to edit carrier network settings??? This seems to be the case if you delete bundles. When carrier is "Not Available", I have no tab, but when carrier is vf nl 12.0, I have it but SMS doesnt work!
Now i cant install furiousmod for some reason.. got a hash sum mismatch

Ok so I can send MMS, not sure how to do SMS. I didn't get any "code" once I rebooted with sim in. All of a sudden I see T-Moblile in the upper corner and I'm making calls! THANKS TO ALL!!!!
So I guess I'll tell the whole story now. This is a birthday present for my now 14 year old daughter. Before I bought the phone I took into the Tmobile store and they assured me that it would certainly work on the tmoile network, "we do it all the time". This was on the day of her birthday. So I took the phone over to the mall where they (tmobile employee at the NON corporate store) told me to go to have it jailbroken and unlocked and ready for tmobile use for 35.00. I was like.....whoohoo. The people at the place that does the jailbreak/unlocking said "no way, thats a verizon 4s, no way to jailbreak it". This was a month ago. My heart sank. The only thing my daughter wanted, that she's been crying about for a year, is now a brick in my hand. Our family has been on tmobile for years, and wasn't about to change all our phones over to a new network. I'm grandfathered in my data plan and only pay 20.00 @month for unlimited. It was not cost effective to switch over just so my daughter could have her coveted iPhone. So once I learned that a jailbreak and unlock is all you need, I was all over it. So I bought this phone on CL. My first iphone ever. I had an idea of what I was getting, but that wasn't enough. I only paid 300.00, and the person I bought it from didn't even know if was a 4 or 4s. She said it was her husbands who passed. I bought the story. SUCKER=ME.
So a month later, today I bring home my daughters birthday gift, working!

What do I do to see if SMS is working?
Try sending a text message. MMS is picture/video/voiceclip. Recently, I've been getting a carrier, but no Bars with my unlock.. it's weird
On the bright side, the update from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 has given me MUCH better battery life... I set up a new iphone instead of restoring from backup.

yep.. no tab. Try tetherme.. it worked for me but it got rid of SMS... but i read it worked for someone. I am restoring now to try out everything again :/
Data roaming is under Settings < General < Network and its a little toggle.
I'm glad you got everything working. 300$ though is a great deal for a 4S, I don't think the lady ripped you off or anything. Although had i known your situation earlier i would have told you to just post it up for sale on ebay or CL and get 400-450, then buy a GSM AT&T iphone 4S and use that for t-mobile. It's probably the easiest way to go if your using a Gevey for T-mobile. These CDMA ones suck to unlock!

What does your Carrier say? vf nl 12.0? Man... I got mine working yesterday and was helping everyone out, but i messed it up when trying to get MMS. Now I can't get it unlocked at all. I am following your guide waiting for signal now :/

It isn't very clear, but it worked for me...
I added the commcenter package and now i get full bars, but i am still having trouble with the activation screen. It will pop up the gevey message and give me the code, but i get automatically pushed to the activation screen and when i attempt the go through the steps it says i must insert the correct SIM.
It's like i need to bypass the activation somehow, but i don't have a sprint SIM to activate it with.

Same thing happened to me yesterday when I insert another sim with same TMobile carrier.

I just restarted the phone and wait until I have some signal bars

The phone works normally now.
My carrier in General/About is "Not Available" I think because I deleted the Carrier Bundle.
*One important thing is*
If you haven't fix the voicemail yet, then don't tap on it.
Every time you tap on the voicemail button, it will dial a number in Nederland and you will be charged for international call $2/min.

Interesting.... I had the zero bar problem and it wont work no matter how long I wait. And restarts.
The only way i got everything to work now is to do what I posted in my above post by installing all 3 packages. Yea, I know they charge you... i was overcharged 17$ on 5.0.1 and i had to call tmobile to remove charges. So I blocked international calls altogether.
The method I used above does not require deleting carrier bundles... it's weird. I have vf nl 12.0 as carrier.. and have SMS. I'll just live without MMS because I did this once and messed it up
I tried installing leimobile again and i cant get connected to carrier.. the carrier switches between Carrier 12.0 and vn nl 12.0.... Settings-reset-reset all settings and it's working again.
I havent attempted mms on 5.1.1 just because I dont use it, but all I did on 5.0.1 was find the actual settings (it was on t-mobile forums) and enter them under Network > Cellular Data Network. There are some different settings floating around, but the second one I tried worked perfectly.
