Ah damn, now I want to return my MBP and wait it out for the M4 version...

Cue the 'if you wait, you'll wait forever' replies

I mean one could argue it's a use of less resources? But the enclosure is entirely recycled so...
Probably... Not sure if the price of the iPad Pro take into account this !
I am, since may years, a happy user of Apple products, but I am not sure of where Apple is going now. I have the feeling that part of these changes are just here to try to keep stock olders happy...

Not sure if the benefit of having a thinner iPad and a stronger M4 will change something for most users. Particularly because iPads are technically as powerful as Apple Macbook ou MacBook Pro, but are running iPad OS, which is quite limited compared to Mac OS.

same. I’ve been looking at alternatives - I could remote desktop into my windows desktop but honestly we have an old MBA lying around my wife uses and I just grab that for the rare occasions I need a laptop. I would like better office apps and better external monitor support (especially now we have thunderbolt 4 on the pros) but its all edge case stuff

Where as for me the iPad is used for a lot of my consumptive stuff that I don’t use the TV for. For actual computer stuff, my Galaxy Book, Thinkpad, and MBP. If I look at it, media and other stuff I wouldn’t really use a laptop for it.

Most of my comp stuff is not iPad as the software or interaction is not available on the iPad side.

RE: People complaining about iPad OS being limited.

I feel like the limitation isn't necessarily the software, but the touch input. IF Apple assumed everyone owned a magic keyboard with trackpad, they could make the software more detailed and productivity-focused. But not everyone has that, so the software has to assume touch controls which are simply limited and will never work for productivity.

The only possible solution would be to dual boot into MacOS or switch between 'desktop' and 'touch' modes, but Apple might have nightmares from when Microsoft tried to do something like that with Windows 8.

Basically enough upgrade to make me update my 2018 11" Pro to a 13", opting for the nano texture and hoping that will be a good choice.

But can't help thinking that the iPad really, really only would shine if it finally allowed full MacOS. The software and the hardware do not fit at all anymore. I think it would be easier to do that than to allow this weird iOS/MacOS blend of iPadOS. MacOS with some UI-work would be just fine for touch.
My 2018 iPad Pro (11") is still beasting, but I'm a photograpther and when I'm not editing photos on my MB, I do it on my iPad (I use LR on both devices).

The camera is a Sony Alpha so I don't know how large the files are compared to other cameras' photos, but it's enough to slow my Ipad down
(and don't get me started on raw files lol).

That would be the only reason for me to upgrade but otherwise the 2018 IPP is still great

Regarding Windows 8 and the whole touch thing… it was like the iPad but in reverse. On a Surface it was a wonderful experience. Unfortunately it was good ONLY on the Surface, like Microsoft designed the OS purely around that hardware.

How did they not realise that it would actually be run on millions of non touch computers! I can imagine Apple could make a touch focused MacOS like Windows 8 but they would never want to cannibalise MacBook sales.

I had the first larger Pro, but when I bought my 2018 Pro, I went for the smaller one. No regrets, it’s just so much more comfortable to use.
I agree, I think for my photo editing I could get by with smaller. That being said, when you add a new case and pencil, things start to add up. I am probably going to stick with the my heavy iPad and get a lighter iPad to pair with it. I still have an old 9.7, but it is slow and the battery is winding down. I am leaning toward the newly priced $349 iPad, but I will probably check out the refurbished store in a couple weeks to see if I can get it even cheaper.

Still gonna wait it out and check out the upcoming reviews to make sure that's the route I want to go.

I was going to replace my Intel MacBook Pro 13 2020 with the latest Air but is an iPad Pro M4 13 inch now perhaps a better option? How does iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard work when having in on your lap?
It sucks for lap usage. I got one and returned it largely because of that. It also can't do the necessary angles for lap use.

I got a Lenrich keyboard case with trackpad instead for about $70 on Amazon and it works great. And is a lot lighter too.

Starting at $1400 Canadian (11 inch) way too expensive! A MacBook Air is cheaper
honestly tho if it had macos, you get 120hz, oled, higher rez which is enticing. 11inch is the biggest difference tho, and im not sure if the keyboard folio thing holds up conveniently like in bed or lap

Is anyone else disappointed that they didn't just release updated mini-LED displays? Would have had higher brightness levels and less worry about burn-in. I guess they went all in on the thinness factor.
I was worried about the brightness (and the burn in possibilities and PWM issue) but 1000 nits full screen is better than I expected and not a deal killer in the slightest.

That Apple event image is not of Samsung's 3rd gen QD-OLED (which instead has green at the top). The pixel arrangement Samsung is using maximizes brightness, which is why they are using it, but happens to cause minor fringing around black colors (eg. text). This is fine for TVs but sub-optimal for computer monitors.

Apple doesn't need that pixel arrangement because Tandem OLED gets sufficiently bright.

Also, why would you disagree with an entire post filled with valid information simply because you (incorrectly, it seems) take issue with a very minor point?
I never said it was 3rd Gen QD-OLED. I said the sub pixel structure is Samsung Display’s and he’s inferring that only LG should be credited.

landscape camera, landscape Magic Keyboard.. but still a portrait logo on the back ... almost all in :D

Agree. Nothing on my M1 pro has caused it to slow down even after all of these years. Not worth upgrading with the meh iPadOS.
I think there are some nice hardware updates, but doesn't change a lot on what we can do with it (which I am sure is your point). The thing that is pushing me to not upgrade is the accessories. I would need a new case and anyone needing a pencil will have to get one of them too because our old Pencil 2s won't work with it. It's hard enough to justify the price before adding the accessories.
