Apple's 2nd interview

I just finished a second interview with Apple. It lasted roughly 1 hour - it was 1/3 tech questions, 1/3 customer service questions and 1/3 general chit chat. At the end of the interview she said that I'll be hearing from HR early next week so I'll just have to wait and see. Overall I thought the interview went quite well and it didn't seem to matter much that I've had limited exposure to Apple products. The fact that I have an extensive tech support background was important despite the fact that it was all Windows based. For people that have not gotten this far in the process, by all means brush up on iOS but more importantly, know basic troubleshooting steps and the ABC's of good customer service.

Thanks this helps. You didn't ask if you got the job after the interview?

Sorry this is long, but here is my two cents for you!

I have a little technical trouble shooting experience, but not much. I worked myself up and was very nervous because I'm not sure what to do if someone drops their laptop or spills soda all over their phone. I'm great at customer service though, and that's what they loved about me.

The approach I took was explaining how I would respond to the specific technical situation -- being very empathetic and polite. I also explained how I would do anything I could to help bring the situation to a happy resolution.

That's the approach I took with all the technical questions. I only had about 2.. the first interview seemed much more customer service oriented. The second one touched on what I had done at my past jobs and how I would respond to a situation like stated above.. like if someone dropped their computer and was really upset.

I've realized everyone's interview is completely different. Some have two.. some have three.. some seem more customer service oriented (like mine) while some get some deep tech questions. It seems to vary based on how the interview is going. Every person I spoke with was very laid back and very nice. It was the most comfortable interview I have ever done (to my great surprise) in that the recruiters and team leaders were very easy to talk to.

I'll say don't worry, but I know that's easier said than done. I drove my family CRAZY through this interview process with my nerves and stress. Just have a happy, confident tone and things will go great. Answer questions to the best of your ability, and if you don't know the answer, explain what you would do.. like research to find a solution to resolve the customers concerns.

I think they're really looking for people who have a great phone voice and attitude.. Someone that will be great with customers. Someone that is willing to and wants to learn... Someone that will utilize their tools available to them to help the customer as much as possible. Someone that completely understands empathy and how to talk to people in upsetting situations. If you can do this, you have nothing to worry about at all. That's exactly what I did and who I am!

To more specifically answer though.. I have seen where people have been asked about how to navigate the Apple website, I was asked about some basic functions on my phone (I have an iPhone) and asked about iTunes. I think they just try to gauge how comfortable and familiar you are with the products or if you're willing and eager to learn and familiarize yourself. To prepare, I spent some time playing around on the website, but I ended up not being asked anything about it. It helps to prepare though. It helped me feel more confident and ready. So play with your/someone's iPhone or iPod, touch an iPad (even a display in a store) and try to go somewhere and play with a Mac on display (like Best Buy) just to get yourself a little more familiar before the second interview. Just some ideas since I don't know what they may throw your way!

Thanks so much for the update. I have my (third interview) well I guess my second, the first one was just general inquiry to see if I was still interested. Anyway, I have my last interview coming up, I've done some home work and I am feeling confident, and ready to get this done with! Did you ask if you had the job at the end of your final interview??

Since I did not consider it to be my last interview (most people have 3) I did not ask. Although the person that interviewed me was a team leader I still have to talk with (or hear from) the HR Manager. At this point I don't know if that's a final interview or I've done well enough so far that I got to the actual hiring process. If anyone here has passed 2 interviews and then dealt with HR (good or bad) I'd like to hear from them.

I had my 1st contact from an Apple rep, seemed like the 1st interview to me.
Then I had a scheduled 2nd Interview, via-FaceTime.
Then I receieved an email with an official Apple-Application, and a time to make a 3rd interview. I am pretty sure it's the last. (I think it's different for most, some say 2 interviews, some say 3). Either way I will let you know when I hear back after my 3rd! Best of luck my friend!

After finishing the 1st skype interview they sent me the official Apple-Application and the link to a web page to set up the time for the second interview. The number of interviews varies between 2 and 3 it seems. All I know is that the 2nd interviewer said I'd be hearing from the hiring manager early next week. My guess is that if I do not receive a HireRight login (or rejection) between now and then, it will mean I have a 3rd interview to do.

Edit: I just got an e-mail with the hireright login info... I guess that's a good thing.

Thanks! I'm not sure. That'd be a good question to ask your recruiter.

Thanks! I'm so excited!

I guess you have to go with the moment, I just hate having to wait and think...I just want to know!! LOL Well wish me well, I am preparing now. Thanks for all the helpful tips.

This seems to be the way its going for me as well

I just literally finished my 2nd interview, via Skype
She scheduled me a 3rd interview and im waiting for the email right now.

As far as some of the questions she asked me, they were some of the following:
-Troubleshoot a wireless printer that isnt connecting with the computer
-How would you go about restoring a deleted app on a ipod/iphone
-If your mail client program wasnt sending or receiving emails, how would you go about troubleshooting it
-Describe a situation where you had to start computer in safe mode

Those are the only ones I remember at the moment. I pray I get the position! I need a break right about now and this would be perfect!!

Good luck to the rest of you fellas/and gals ;)

Also, she told me if hired my start date would be Sept 10. My bday is aug 6 and this would really be a blessing lol. Hell it would be my best bday present since...well since ever! Lol

Thats great. What area did you get a
call back from? Any indication on training date?

I don't know exactly what area I got a response for or from but they did ask where I reside and proceeded on to set up an interview. I was told I would be in the sept 10 class as well, if hired. So I'm hoping this next FaceTime interview on thursday goes well so I can get started. And hopefully this background check process isn't as crazy as it seems.

I agree. I think it's more like 3 because mine was like that too. But who knows. Hopefully it's the last and I make it through okay.

Just received HireRight email

Hello All!

I am another "lurker" who has profited from your generous donation of information about how to apply for this position. I am here to reciprocate. :)

All of the interviewers were really nice and helpful.

The first interviewer loved my customer service skills and so she passed me to the next interview even though I had a brain fart about "what is OS?" She told me to brush up on my knowledge before the next interview. She said if I passed all of my interviews, I would be in the September class.

The second interviewer liked my experience in tech troubleshooting for other companies. He asked if I had any Apple products. I don't and it didn't seem to matter. He gave me some tips on what to do on my next interview. He said to study up on all of the different Apple products and how to troubleshoot them because I would be asked those questions.

The third interview had a lot more tech questions like, "How would I troubleshoot a Mac that would not turn on?" "How would I help my daughter set up a new iPod with a USB?" He was really conversational and would let me know if I gave a good answer or not. He was really positive about my answers. He said I should hear back from my recruiter in about 2 weeks.

July 9th: applied (no cover letter)

July 19th: received email with 12 questions

July 20th: 1st interview

July 23rd: 2nd interview

July 30th: 3rd interview

July 30th: 8 hours later received HireRight email

I hope this helps anyone else. Hopefully this means I got the job! ;) I will update about whether or not I got my offer.

Great attitude to have!
1) When have you set a goal, accomplished something, and how did you over-come obstacles?
2) What is Wifi? Blue-tooth? And a Hot Spot?
3) Someone drops an iPhone, it won't turn on, what do you say?
4) You attempt to sync an iPhone to iTunes, it won't sync, what do you do?
5) How do you keep yourself in a positive attitude when you're stressed?
6) Email won't send/receive: trouble shoot.

Welp! My wait is finally over! Received the call today and was offered the job directly with Apple! I think the wait made me more nervous than the interviews, lol. Speaking of which, I only had 2 interviews; The initial one w/the recruiter who explained to me what they were hiring for e.t.c., asked questions about my customer svc/tech background, general stuff. Then I had my 2nd interview w/c was a little more tech oriented, and after that I was sent the HireRight paperwork that same evening. Waited about 2 weeks, got the call today (or yesterday rather, it's 1:43a here) offering me the job, received the official offer email the same night...so now I'm just going through the onboarding process. Oh! I'm in the Aug. 13th class, so hopefully I'll see some of you there! Blessings and positivity to the rest of you out there going through the process! You'll get it! Positive thoughts! ;)

I guess the number of interviews you do and the types of questions you get will vary. I had 2 skype interviews and got the HireRight info right after I finished the second interview. I did not get any iOS related questions but I made it clear that I didn't know squat about iPhones and iPads. I did walk her through troubleshooting an Active Directory problem on Windows Server 2008 and that seemed to suffice. I think everyone will get the e-mail connectivity question as that is their #1 issue. The interview lasted 1 hour and I got the impression that it was more about who I was as a person than what my troubleshooting skills were. As I said, I know next to nothing about iPhones but I'm a quick study and told my interviewer that I was looking forward to learning about Apple products.

As far as the background check, I have no criminal record but since I've been freelancing for 10 years that's the same as being unemployed for 10 years (technically) so I don't know how that's going to go. So far, everyone that has gotten the HireRight e-mail has been offered the job... as far as I know.

Things to know: WiFi, Bluetooth, E-mail connectivity, basic troubleshooting
Things to be: Humble, interested, charming (if possible), good communicator.
This job is more about who you are, not what you know... That's been my impression so far at least.

Hey, in my interview I was advised that I would get calls mainly on iphones, ipods and ipads. I was also told that I would not only be recommended for tech support but also customer service, because my background is in both. I hope this helps. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU

Thanks for the response beautifulmama! After much anticipation and anxiety, I did have a phone interview. I had advised them that I work Monday - Friday through the day and kept checking my email every 5 minutes today to see if I got a response. When I didn't I felt a little discouraged but when I was about 2 minutes from home after work I got a call from a CA number and low and behold it was the lady that had emailed me.

I'm glad to say I had an amazing upbeat, relaxed interview with her and she seemed really impressed and positive with the information I gave her. I have an interview during my lunch break tomorrow. I was excited about getting to do it via facetime (it's the apple nerd in me), but because I'm going to be at work I'm going to just have to do it by phone rather than by facetime via my ipad2.

I've been brushing up on my troubleshooting and reading around the net for what people thought about the job and the interview process. I'm sure if my other interviewers are anywhere near as nice as my first interviewer and as you guys are saying yours was, this will be a fun experience. I think having my interviews so close together is going to help ease my anxiety a little, but I know waiting for my background check to come back and having to wait possibly 2 or more weeks is going to be agonizing.

Oh and if I make it through this process I will be starting Sep 10, so good luck to all the Sep 10th starters! I'm not sure how their training process works but hopefully we'll all get to share in the experience with each other!
