even longer hours? [emphasis added]

In the coming weeks, Apple will be making significant enhancements and changes to its AppleCare support service, according to sources. Planned to go live as soon as Monday, August 12th is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week AppleCare support via online chat. Sources did warn that August 12th is a “target date” that could be pushed back.

Users who have support questions and issues at anytime of the day will now be able to have their concerns answered. Apple tested such a service over eight years ago, but next week’s scheduled rollout appears to be a major event for AppleCare that will go beyond just a pilot phase.

The 24/7 chat support will likely be applicable for both Mac and iOS Device users. As Apple’s iPad and iPhone hardware competition increases from companies such as Samsung, Apple will need to utilize its unique customer support prowess as a differentiating factor in the marketplace. 24/7 chat support via an easy-to-understand medium could assist in this.

If the 24/7 web chat support offering is successful, a similar program for phone support could be considered for the future.

If I could sit here overnight and have text chats with the random stoners and insomniacs who would be seeking support, I might hate my job a lot less than I hate it now. Rather than listening to my manager tell me that he didn't think my empathy statement had enough feeling behind it, I could simply copy and paste whatever moronic gibberish Apple decided to provide, then tell my boss to check the box and move along. I still wouldn't like my job, but I'd dislike it a lot less.

Yep, once again, Kelly is completely different. With Kelly, you have a few hours of orientation the first day (mine was under three) then your equipment arrives later that week. The next week, you have another orientation lasting between six and eight hours and then training starts the next week on Monday. Or at least that was the schedule I just went through a month ago.

I would be all over this. I would love the hours and the chat as well. I guess I'll have to cross my fingers and hope that the hints I've been picking up on mean that we just might have the opportunity at Kelly.

I may go this route myself. I passed up the opportunity to go to chat support because I was in the middle of Tier 2 training. I'm supposed to actually start at T2 next week and they haven't even made the official offer yet. I'm really kind of disappointed with the haphazard way they're going about "promoting" me.

In any case, the bump in pay for going to T2 better be VERY substantial or I'm going to stay at T1. Also, I really don't want to be on the phone 40 hours a week and T2 is full time.

It's funny... I can't stand this job but I do it relatively well. I wonder where I'd be if I actually liked it.

I was given an offer by Kelly. Not doubting what you say at all, it's just weird that nobody at Kelly explained it like that to me, I was just told I start on the 19th. Are those beginning hours paid for or are you just required to be present? And another thing, I'm not sure I understand. Through Kelly, is it temp to hire with Apple? Or is just temp only?

According to a presentation that I saw yesterday, you could pretty much have whatever job you want. You might have to start wearing one of those black t-shirts with the Apple logo though.

One of the few things convincing me to hang with it for now is the fact that I'll get to switch to part time pretty soon. 40 hours of T1 work is too much for me. I can only imagine spending 40 hours dealing with the stuff that gets kicked up to T2.

----------

Did you get a raise for going to chat support or was it the same?

I suspect that you may have intended to quote a different post. I was merely observing that I would prefer a chat support job to the phone support job that I have now.

Every bit of your schedule should be spelled out in an email. If you really don't know what it is, call HR and they can verify. I can only tell you how it went when I did it a very short time ago. The directly through Apple people can only tell you how things are with Apple.

All the time that you're required to be there for is paid, of course. And it isn't a temporary position, it's permanent with Kelly. The only way you would be working directly for Apple would be to go through the entirely separate process of applying and interviewing with Apple just as the other good folks here have all done.

I absolutely do not want to take the types of calls I escalate. 40 hours would do me in for sure.

Still waiting to go to the career fair ... everyone is raving about it though. I'm guessing it's probably more propaganda than not... I'm such a cynic :)

What is the career fair?

It's a virtual job fair for Apple employees. I haven't gone yet but I guess you can get an idea of what the various queues do. I hope to submit my resume to Enterprise support.

They'll run this again no doubt. And since you need at least year in to apply for another Apple job, most of the people in this thread have a ways to go.

It was fine for what it was, which is a rally-the-troops sort of thing. There are lots of cool people with lots of cool stories about how they progressed with the company. If you're looking to cross into a different department, it is definitely worth your while since you can talk with some of the bosses.

The people who love Apple came away truly inspired. I came away grateful for an hour and a half off the phones. If by some twist of fate I'm still working here next year, I may take it a little more seriously at that time.

I'm not kidding about the black t-shirts though. They really seem to be an important part of the deal or something.

My position is that if I'm going to be stuck doing phone work I'd at least like a queue that is NOT consumer level iOS. As far as Apple the company, I neither love it or hate it... it's a tech company and I just happen to work there at the moment. My 2 biggest gripes with Apple at this point are 1. prices and 2. the cult like atmosphere. The kool aid drinkers drive me nuts at times. I'm not really knocking it but rigid devotion to an ideology of any type does not sit well with me, be it political, religious or tech.

AG i totally agree with you. i will be starting on Monday and I'm glad to have a job but I see Apple just as company who saw fit for me to service its customers.
