I guess that depends on the person. For some people it can be difficult to keep up with the training pace. But then give that same person a phone and they do well on the job. The training only last a few weeks. The job afterward lasts much longer.

No amount of training can truly prepare a person to take calls in a call center. Having started my IT career in a call center as a tech support rep for a different computer company. Once you are taking live calls its different then anything you were trained for.

I disagree with this part. Pester, ask as many questions as you want. It doesn't matter if they think you're stupid or the entire team for that matter. What it all boils down to are passing those tests. Do everything you can including asking questions. After you pass you would really have to do something crazy in order to get fired.

Like leak sensitive info to Mac Rumors.

----------

well if it makes you feel better, your 5 weeks of training are 40 hours a week... then once that up its thanksgiving and xmas time... which there is plenty of overtime... by the time that's over you may be able to make tier 2...

According to my TM, getting to T2 is harder now.
They no longer pull from T1 CPU.

You have to go through the specialized queues now.. i.e. iApps and WMM .

----------

Salaries are pretty hush hush around here but I'd guess low 40's. Requirements for TM are not very steep... just a 4 year degree and some CS experience. No degree needed if you started out as an AHA.

I do know that TM's work pretty hard so it's not a cake job.

Having backfill expierence also helps.

Ultimately, I thought training proved to be pretty ineffective. I think classroom training should be cut down to 1 week or a week and 1/2 and nesting extended to 2 or 3 weeks. That goes for Tier 2 apprenticeship training as well. I've seen very little of the material covered in training actually come up during real world phone calls. And even if it did, I can't remember a damn thing out of an SGT I did 2 days ago, much less one I did a month ago.

Hi all this thread has been super informative !! Has helped me get that reassurance I need to know if its worth to make the jump from my big name cell co.
I do tech support already probably have spoken to some of you AHA already . T1 & T2
Questions
Do I only apply to the city 100 miles or less from me?
Can I apply for a iChat position in another state?
Are they split shifts? Ex. 9-1 then later 4hour schedule or is it all 8 hours on certain days for PT?
What time is considered graveyard? I work third shift 2-11 and it work able with my kids but quiet may b an issue ??
Any help I'd appreciated to help me make a decision to make the jump.
Thanks

Lurker becomes a newbie....

I have been lurking around for the last week because I have applied for the AHA position as I have reached the point of desperation since I was terminated from my last help desk tech position in June and faced with having no car (I had to give it back to the bank :( because it was a choice of keep the car or the roof over my family's head ) to be able to work outside the home... Do not get me wrong I love Apple products the first computer I EVER put my hands on was in high school in Intro to Computers was an Apple II... now I realize I am giving a clue to my age, but I am not a vain woman so I am neither old or young... I am in the middle... :D

I am a kind of a Jane of all trades and a master of none... :p. I have an AS in computer networking, I am also a licensed cosmetologist, I have been a front desk receptionist, an Admin Asst, Exec. Asst. etc.... when I first got into the workforce it was in call center customer/sales service of which was the first 10 or so years before I moved into clerical chapter of my work history...

I applied on 8/4... well now to make everyone giggle...my time zone is CST...it was Thursday August 29th at 3:20pm that I decided to take a shower after spending the entire day job searching/applying and I left my cell phone (iPhone 4S and I love it!) on the kitchen table because all of my employer contact phone call are in the first half of the day... well at 3:35pm I was finished with my shower and went to check my phone only to find I had a missed call...and it was from my (I guess he/she can be referred to as this) recruiter , I immediately called this person back to get a voice mail, I left a message and then proceeded to send an email to them expressing my excitement to hear from them and my interest in the position... I thought I would get a return phone call later or by the very least on Friday, I did not so I checked another email account that I have which is used as my Apple ID and sure enough they sent my an email the day before saying they wanted to speak with me about the position ASAP and to answer the following question contained in the body of the email...and I did, then because I hadn't heard anything them by 4pm Friday afternoon sent another email asking for acknowledgment of both emails and was told in a reply (thank god for the reply) they would reach out next week.... now since tomorrow is Labor Day does anyone think I might receive a call tomorrow or should I chill and wait for Tuesday????

Just chill. If the call is forthcoming stressing out or staring at your phone won't make the call come faster.

Lurker becomes a newbie....

That depends. Is it a smartphone? I've heard those things are pretty amazing.
I have an iPhone 4S.... my oldest son has a 15" MacBook Pro...both have 16G iPod touches...oldest just got for his birthday 160G iPod... I love Apple!!!! I am a techie at heart and even tho... this is more customer based the tech... it still looks good on a resume that you worked for Apple.... I would love to have a 27" iMac.....plus I need a new iPhone....LOL.... oh both of my boys have iPhones as well I gave them their choice of Blackberry, Android or iPhone and both said without hesitation iPhone!!!! .... I have had android and blackberry and iPhone... my preference is iPhone all the way... much more user friendly... and when I was working as a help desk tech and user would come to me to set up work email on their phones... those with an iPhone were much easier than android and the user's did take notice.... oh and I cannot forget I have an iPad 2 64G, and an iPad mini 32G.....

Apple products all around for the family? You must of had a pretty decent salary at your old job. You certainly fit the profile of an average Apple employee... I really hope you land the job.

As for me, I'll have 1 year in as an Apple AHA employee this week and I still maintain that Apple products are for people with more money than sense but I'm an open source/built it yourself kind of guy.

I made the most money I have ever made in my life at my last position....I didn't reach the early $30K mark until I was 34 years old....

Agreed Gerbil... My first iDevice was the iPhone 5 that I got when my upgrade came up. I was switching over from an HTC Evo 4g to see what all the fuss was about... A month after getting the iPhone 5 16GB I traded it for a brand new HTC One (which is standard with 32GB). I'll admit the iPhone holds its value well, I was happy to only have to do an even trade. I love working for the company, but I do prefer my new phone.

My oldest son got his MacBook Pro as a high school graduation gift from his dad, because his major in college was going to be Computer Graphic design...and I had gotten a student discount on it, so that is why he has that....

@RydiaRelm... I had an HTC Evo 4G before I got my iphone, I made the switch because the Evo kept having issues with my company's Exchange server and since I was now working as a Technician being able to get my emails was essential to my work, I then got a Samsung Galaxy and had the same issue, I then cut up so bad that Sprint allowed me to upgrade early without having to sign a new contract...that is how I got my iPhone....but must confess I do like Apple products and agree that you have to earn a good living to be able to afford them...

Overall, I think the popularity of at least iPhones is due to the fact that they are a fashion statement to some degree and people are buying a lifestyle, not really a phone.

I don't love or hate any particular technology or company, I am a practical man. I get the best tech that does the job at hand and that best fits my own or my client's budget, be it MS, Oracle, Apple or Open Office. Technology is just that, technology, it's not an ideology.

My ambivalence toward Apple has not prevented me from doing the job and doing it relatively well. The one thing you won't find in my phone calls, however, is enthusiasm because that's not who I am but the customers seem to like me none the less

I agree, when I had to switch to the iPhone I did so because where I worked at the time everyone in the IT department had an iPhone and was not having issues with the company's MS Exchange Server and I had already had a blackberry and was not impressed (manly because I do like to play games on my phone while I am waiting to be called into an exam room at say the doctors office and blackberry's app market was not up to snuff with iOS or Android)....

It also didn't hurt that I was able to get my iPads through my company's vendor contact where I received a decent discount ;)
