For those who don't think this matters - it does. It matters because to someone like me, a gay youth, it shows that being gay does not limt my ability to do great things in life. That's so important to me.

But you should not need to be told that. Gay rights have become the 'civil rights' of this decade / era.

As much as being female, being of an ethnic minority, or having a disability should not limit your ability to do great things in life - it should just be taken for granted the being gay is only a 'part' of what makes up a person - it doesn't and shouldn't 'define' you completely ........

Thank you for sharing that info and I'm sorry for the misinformation. I'll pay more attention to news from now on:)

But the bigger issue is, civil rights should not be up to a "vote". No right was ever given to a minority that was voted on by the general population. Civil rights have only come about due to politicians and courts. That they are the ones who can do that is a necessary protection for minorities who might be railroaded by the majority.

If you're going to go fishing, you need to use a more subtle lure.

Well....I hope you don't believe in democracy..... because if you do you will have to respect the fact the the majority on earth disagrees with you!

but? but? boobs?

Okey, I'll never understand why some turn away from boobs, but it's not like he's hurting anybody. So more power to him, and more boobs for me!

Actually, no. You get no more boobs now versus the years prior to Tim's coming out publically.

I really don't mind this news. I've always liked Tim Cook and respected him even when Jobs was still around. But I must ask, what is it with everyone having to come out and declare their sexuality? Why does it matter? Those were my only questions. Not judging anyone for doing this, I just do not understand it.

Because there is a lot of ignorance and when people with influence come out it creates a conversation that hopefully will chip away at the ignorance. Us straight people may shrug, but I have friends who have been fighting daily to try to get the right to get married (which only recently was granted in my state, with some politicians still fighting to get it taken away.)

Good on Tim for coming out.
Supporting him all the way.

Also, this is going to make Apple seem more hip.

Also, there will be plenty of haters plus those who say "who cares these days anyway", so in the end it's really not that much of a PR-effective move.

So it's the new gay lexicon term for "straight."

Um, no, it's the scientifically correct term for not transgender. You can still be gay and cisgender. You can be straight and transgender. Gender identity and sexual orientation are two completely different things.

Good for him.
Its 2014 though. You'd think we were past having to fight for equality.

For the millionth time: US is not the only country in the world (and North America and Western Europe are not the only regions). Apple sells quite well in many countries that are nowhere near being "past having to fight for equality".

Sorry, but I'm done buying Apple products as long as Tim Cook is CEO. Using his public position to push the agenda of hate and intolerancs aka. the gay agenda, is disgusting. Keep your bizarre sexual behavior to yourself, Tim, nobody wants to hear about it.

Those Android tablets are looking better and better.

It's this outstanding level of irony that brings me back to this thread.

Who in the hell cares and what the hell does this have to do with making computers and mobile devices???

This is the kind of crap that makes me mad. Someone using their high position as a business person to push a personal agenda. Just do your job Cook and leave your personal life at home. I don't need it in my face.

Yet when powerful public figures announce their heterosexual marriages and divorces, nobody seems to think it's being shoved in their face... strange.

I certainly support him as CEO of Apple. But certainly don't support his homosexuality.

Lol...
So who "supports" your heterosexuality????!
Oh.. nobody?
Oh, sexuality doesn't need "support ", it simply exists?

Hahahaha....

Do you "support" me being a diabetic? I'm not sure I can bend to your will & expectations of strangers you'll never meet.

So it's the new gay lexicon term for "straight."

Gender is not sexuality .

A transwoman may be attracted to other women exclusively. This would make her a gay woman.

A different transwoman may only be attracted to men. This would make her a straight woman.

A non-binary person might be attracted to both men and women, this would make them a bi- or pan-sexual person.

So on and so forth.

So it's the new gay lexicon term for "straight."

I don’t believe it implies sexual orientation, just gender identity.

Er, I guess I’m too slow this morning, but my assumption is validated :)

Personally I'm glad for every single gay who came out over the past decades as it obviously does support the fight for equality - which is still necessary in many parts of this world. If no one had spoken up in the past there would be no gay marriage and the tolerance probably would be much lower as well. Of course this affects mostly gays so you might not realize the impact of these consequences, which is totally fine as well, just trying to explain the way I've experienced these issues.

visualize Tim and Barney Frank going at it and tell me that is awesome.

If Tim was straight, visualize him and Hillary Clinton going at it and tell me it's awesome. I wouldn't want to see that any more than him and Frank. I fail to see what point you're trying to make, other than sounding like a kid. "Ewwww, sex, gross!!!!!"

It's funny how the only ones here bringing up visuals of Tim in the bedroom are the ones who are posting this anti-gay nonsense. Methinks they doth protest too much.
