I couldn't be happier for Tim.

I want to live in a world that this isn't news. I want to live in a world where this doesn't matter. But we don't live in that world.

I hope we all live to see a day and age when equality is the norm both socially and legally. Sadly we aren't there yet, as Tim writes legal discrimination is still prevalent.

This is important. Both on the macro level of America's most important company having a gay ceo, and the micro level of being a role model to young people coming to grips with themselves.

I can't imagine how powerful it must be for a teen in the Deep South to know that Tim Cook was just like them. And it gets better.

So thank you Tim for this selfless act of giving away your privacy to help others.

So it's the new gay lexicon term for "straight."

Incorrect.

Straight is sexuality. Not gender.

there actualy is a difference and your gender doesn't define your sexuality.

Cisgender just means that I am genetically/biologically male and identify as male.

it is possible to be Transgender, in which someone who is genetically male, identifies as Female (Or vice versa).

That also doesn't take into account the diversity and variance in gender that might occur since the whole issue about gender isn't entirely linked to genetics either.

I can think of a few words but they wouldn't make it past MR's swear filter ;)
you can instead use a word which rhymes with 'merchant banker' and begins with 'w'....;)

Agreed on both accounts.

Many people may not support Tim, I do, and I have no problem with anyone's gender, sexuality, race or religion - intolerance is no longer of this day and age anymore (it may still occur, and those who do are pure ignorant morons).

**** racism, sexism and any inequalities in this modern age. Be done with it and live your life, as long as you're not harming or oppressing others.

If you think it's your 'right' to do so, then yeah.... **** you.

Steve Jobs didn't care if Tim was gay or not.

That's good enough for me.

Where were all you bashers when Steve was around ? You do know he was an LSD taking ,pot smoking non-conformists hippy right ?

They're probably Democrats too.

Ha !

The conspiracist in me wonders is this is an attempt at an astute business move to explain away signs of crashing iPhone sales due to bendgate? See it's not bendy phone, it's all this intolerance....

You are confusing "conspiracist" with "t...." :)

as a Catholic churchgoer, and well knowledgable of Catholic theology... I don't give a f- if he's gay or not.
I care that he's doing the job well.

Let me start with, I think it's great for Tim Cook!

It has to be relieving to get something like that out, when speculation has been out there! Although, I admit, for some reason it never entered my mind!

I can't imagine hiding, or trying to hide, I love woman!!! Or people looking at me in disgust, just for enjoying the company of woman, especially my wife! I really don't care who you sleep with, as long as that person says it's ok, Escorts included.##

How's that gay marriage coming along nation-wide in the US?

Actually, bans on gay marriage are falling slowly but surely, state by state. Gay marriage will probably be the law of the land in 2-3 years.

I'm tired of all these people feeling the need to tell us they're gay. It was obvious he was gay anyway. I can spot a gay person from a mile away so I couldn't care less about these announcements. Just like I can spot a black person, a white person; an Asian person.

What, like this is something that hasn't been done before???

You are blind. His motivation is simply to push an agenda which has nothing to do with his job. Pure and simple.

Chris,

Is your life wholly summed up within the confines of your career? Is everything you do that matters only within the hours of 9 to 5? If not, why would you imagine Tim Cook's life would be equally as circumscribed?

Lots of people asking why he needs to 'come out'. Like a lot of older gay men he probably was quite content being discrete and just having those closer to him 'knowing'. And in the era of politically correct 'identity politics' many seek to avoid being seen as 'a gay', 'a black', 'a woman' and want to be treated as an individual.

However, there's still something of a duty to come out. What about the gay kids that have the aptitude to be a leading businessman but see it as a 'straight macho males' world? Do they limit themselves to 'gay friendly' careers or see the world as their oyster? I think this is probably why Tim has come out publicly now.

I long for the day when someone saying they're gay isn't news. Because frankly I'm tired of hearing about it constantly. This actor, this athlete, this CEO.....etc. etc. etc.

I really don't care what your sexual preference is. Personally, I like Midget Porn....news at 11!

So it's the new gay lexicon term for "straight."

No. Those are different (but related) concepts. In short, straight is the opposite of gay. Cis (cisgender) is the opposite of trans (transgender). Both of these are seen as 'normal'. But being one does not necessarily imply the other. Straight people can be trans. And gay people can be cis.

Of course it is. Why do you have a whole prefrontal cortex in your brain if it is not to use it to override your biological programming ?
Did you rape your wife? No, you asked her nicely. Because you used your cortex to override what is natural. Did you leave your wife after two years, as per your biological programming? Nope, because you chose the unnatural path of humanity. Do you kill everyone that annoys you? No, because you're making the choice to ignore your natural programming in favor of the unnatural laws of society.

Being human is being unnatural. Being gay is unnatural, as are most of our behaviours. So, yes, it is normal, it's a testament to humanity having evolved past our base biological programming...

I would say just the opposite-- homosexuality is totally 100% natural, fixed from birth, just as it is prevalent throughout the animal kingdom. What's unnatural is to socially suppress it. People who are homophobic don't give a rat's patootie about nature, as it is just steeped into their learned religion, which is the real perversion of nature. Religion causes people to act in ways to deny others their rights (traced back to slavery and beyond) and deny science (the study of nature).

That's a direct insult to God! Implying that God made a mistake I don't think so. He has a choice and so does everyone else. If you ever read the bible you would know God created us with the specific power of choice.

I have read both the Bible and the Qu'ran and it is quite clear from reading them that man invented those specific gods, just as we invented all the gods of ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt and all the one's before that.

Nature does not think and behave like a human being. In fact, it doesn't 'think' at all, it doesn't need to. Conscious decision making only makes sense in the context of individuals (such as ourselves and other species), who interact with a surrounding environment. Consciousness and intelligence could never create the universe itself, because a universe is required for the component parts of an intelligent system to exist and function together properly. This is why gods are nothing but an irrational paradox.

However, it's pretty obvious 'why' we would make the egotistical assumption that nature was controlled by a more powerful version of ourselves (a king or father figure). Back then our species was still primitive and we didn't know any better, but now we have moved on, and there is no longer any excuse for not understanding the natural world around us at a higher level.

I really don't care what your sexual preference is.

Because its never been something you’ve had to conceal. Having role models, having someone you can think of as “oh, they are gay/black/trans/latino/disabled/bisexual/asian and they are still great at what they do is unbelievably, until you have faced that lack of representation in the media you can never, and will never understand it.

Tim - focus on making a decent upgradable Mac Mini instead of your orientation.

Yes, because his sexuality stops him from designing a good product...

There isn't enough money in the Mac Mini to warrant a full redesign, having non-upgradeable RAM was an attempt to increase the money in it.

Based on this faulty, flawed logic that has no basis or bearing in real life.

You're abnormal for using an iPhone, cause clearly, internationally iPhone users are the minority to Android the master race and you shouldn't exist!:p

The roots of marriage are not actually religious in nature and existed prior to the Churches definition of it.

There has been homosexuality occurring throughout all of mankinds history, even in some of the biggest most succesfull empires. Often, in perfect legality and acceptance. Did you know, that in Ancient Sparta, young boys were expected to form homosexual bonds with their peers. It was believed that soldiers who felt love for their comrades would fight harder to protect not only themselves, but someone else they loved dearly who fought with them. The Spartan army has been considered one of the strongest military mights of Ancient societies.

There is no link between allowing TWO CONSENTING ADULTS to be together, and allowing a human and animal to be together. This isn't even a fallacy of slippery slope. There's no link. None at all. its nothing more than an attempt to demonize homosexuality by linking it to Bestiality. There is none. Just because Homosexually is allowed doesn't suddenly make Bestiality. Bringing up this argument is bigotry at it's finest.

And HUmans and objects? Where are you? Humans have been having sexual relations with objects since the dark ages. Probably earlier. Dildos, Sex Toys, fleshlights. These are not new things. Women and men have been shoving inanimate objects up themselves for centuries, often to great pleasure. This does not suddenly mean that people are going to start marrying their sex toys and society will crumble.

You sir, have done nothing but spout pure bigotry. Open your mind and realize that the sexual orientation of another has zero impact on your life. Changes nothing about your life. Will do nothing to affect your life, and therefore, you should have nothing against it. you, and others with these beliefs are exactly the reason why Tim Cook feels the need to speak up and come out. there is still rampant bigotry in this world

You should win a Pulitzer for your last paragraph! (*Not* sarcasm)

He's not telling the globe this for your gaydar benefit. He's reaching out to those that have been abused by bigots their entire life that success is attainable, even in a world of lazy, bigoted minds too afraid to face reality: diversity in life is what makes life worth living.

You clearly have no peace with this or would not have wasted writing about how `tired' you are on this subject.

This is nothing new.
CNBC host apparently mentioned it some time ago and everyone got silent because they didn't think anyone was supposed to know.

Unfortunately, I'll never understand why it is important for an individual to publicly announce to the world who they like to have sex with???????????

I don't recall Steve Jobs publicly announcing to the world, during his CEO tenure, his sexual preference.

Apple truly is not the visionary company it used to be. The person at the helm does not have that driving passion for Apple that its previous CEO had. The previous CEO made it his job to publically announce his passion for everything Apple.... I can't say the same about the current CEO.

I personally do not care if he is gay, or he isn't gay. The only thing I look to him for is the excitement of what Apple is bringing to the public next. This just diverts my attention away from everything Apple.

Dear Tim... get back on track and focus on the company.

I think most gay people are not so tired of hearing this.

If heterosexuals were in the minority and if they were facing discrimination or ridicule throughout their lives, and if it were difficult for them to admit that they are heterosexuals, then I am sure you would be happy to hear from some "important people" that they are heterosexual.

Well....I hope you don't believe in democracy..... because if you do you will have to respect the fact the the majority on earth disagrees with you!

Glad to have Tim in my minority. He believes in God. Cited Him in his statement in case you didn't notice. Are you gonna bash him for that or just kinda rationalize your way around it?
