Just out of curiosity, does the phone ordered through the program come as the unlocked phone or is it carrier locked still?
No especially not with sim free. I do this every year with T-Mobile as the previous T-Mobile version did not have cdma so I always waited for the sim free option. Glad that it was finally available on launch.
Seems like almost everyone has got delivery date of September 21, 2018.
Has Apple been well prepared this time or it's the less volume of sales?
Is it possible to order an AT&T phone and use it for T-Mobile via the IUP? I am a current IUP member but switched to T-Mobile sometime this year
I think it's fewer sales. My evidence is anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt, but... everyone I know with an iphone x is not upgrading, most expensive iphone lineup so far, also one of the least impressive feature updates yet.
It’s easy to deduce that it’s less sales just from the volume of posts here alone. There is only 450 posts on this thread this year. Last year by 4 hours after launch there were over 900 posts here. So just about “half” the interest it would seem.
iPhone Xs Max Gold 256GB, delivered on Sep 21. Order went through @ 00:08 the minute the iPhone app came up for me. Went for the sim free version this time around.
Seems like shipping estimates are still holding up fairly well. This is probably down to this being the "S cycle" as well as the pricing, and the fact that there's absolutely no new features in the iPhone Xs beyond the specs bump, so those among the X crowd not interested in a big screen (and there are many) found no reason to upgrade. I'm an iPhone fanatic and owned almost every single version since the very first one, only skipping the 5s, and if it wasn't for the bigger screen on the Max I would've absolutely skipped this year as well. The X is an amazing phone and Apple gave us no reason to upgrade to the regular Xs.
The fact that the XR is coming next month is most likely a factor as well, the XR will definitely be Apple's best selling iPhone this year.
There was a disclaimer at the bottom of the product page that said that the phone would not work with current SIMs. It seemed to be in the same area as the eSIM and perhaps related. But it would be crappy of Apple to not make that very clear during purchase of a SIM-Free model so maybe that isn’t really what it means. No especially not with sim free. Price and the fact that it has almost every good feature of the Xs series. “Normal” people like my wife don’t care about screen technologies and 3D Touch is not that useful. The tipping point is that the single lens camera can do the stuff that used to require the second camera.Agreed totally with your analysis. But why the Xr popularity?? That part I don’t get.

Yes! That’s what I saw. Applies or no?Was this it:
- iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are not compatible with existing micro-SIM cards.
Not as far as I know. They use a physical nano-SIM.Yes! That’s what I saw. Applies or no?

That is interesting, so I can't just pop my existing T-Mobile sim card that we just got in May? That woudl make no sense.
Woke up to order my IUP phone and realized I want the only XS model without launch day availability in NY (it seems) XS 256GB SG, 28 Sept - 5 Oct delivery only...
