I don't see why discontinuing the SE surprises anyone. I said from the start there would never be an update- when has anything named "special edition" not been a one time release?

Well, the Mac SE was updated to the Mac SE/30, for starters. Even the original Mac SE had the SuperDrive (1.44 MB floppy) added to it (replacing the DSDD 800K floppy).

SE phones are too small and not practical for anything besides getting lost in your pocket/purse.

I got my daughter an SE, and my similarly sized iPod Touch fits wonderfully in my shirt pocket. My work issued iPhone 6s is a tight fit, and I'm a big guy.

Pretty angry they discontinued the X, considering I haven't even had mine for a month yet. Oh, well - keeping it as it's still an amazing phone.

Watch 4 looks great, and I'm tempted to have that as my first "smartwatch".

? Why would you care if they keep selling the x or not? Makes no sense.

Thought I was the only one who noticed how creepy everyone was sounding. They looked uncomfortable too.
I felt awkward watching them.
Don't even get me started on Phil Schiller's ever expanding waistline. Muffin Top Phil.
The Apple Watch might be getting slimmer but Phil is getting bigger.

An XSE would have been awesome. I would have gone for a smaller from factor.
XR is okay but way too expensive.
Apple should have bumped off the 7 and kept the SE (as XSE) instead.

New product lineup should have been
XS
XS Max
XR
X SE
They were nervous because we knew every damn thing that was going to be announced down to leaked images last week from THEIR MARKETING MATERIALS. They knew they were getting up on stage about to tell a group of reporters what they’ve been leaking for weeks. There were literally zero surprises except how atrocious the pricing is on these new phones.

You're a MacRumors regular and you knowingly bought an iPhone X a month before new iPhones were coming out? Like they have every September since 2012?

And why are you angry about it? Your phone will be supported in iOS updates for years to come; they're just not making the phone anymore.

What about discontinuing the IPT6 too Apple? or even better releasing an IPT7...

What a garbage event. So much BS corporate talk, nothing new. Crazy prices.
And don't start me on all those creepy people on stage. Incredible.
but but but it's the best iphone they have ever made!! wee!!

Thank You, Mister Cook, for eliminating the only small phone in your line up. The only Phone, that is not a ridiculous phablet.

I had no idea, that You zeroed out customer satisfaction.

And still no new mac mini. Apple just hit rock bottom.

Bozos all over the place.

Steve would have never allowed this.

Guess i'm gonna need a woman's bag from now on too......i don't think so cook.

No included fast charger and the new price points are painful.

I am wondering what the prices for the new Ipad Pro are going to be.

Huuuge..

The first statement is pure ignorance.

The second one is inaccurate. Steve did like money, no doubt, and he thought, that success is measured in profit.

But that was not his driving force.

Steve wanted to change the world, to redefine industries, to build extraordinary products.

Not just bigger is better.

Those phablets are as stupid as those people, who take photographs on the street using iPads.

Utter stupidity.

Lame design.

Lack of true innovation.

Bozo blah blah about retarded games for 9 year olds.

I don't want any stupid haptic game feedback on my phone.

I want a phone that fits my pocket!

Agree with you. But you are preaching to a peanut gallery populated by the likes of the dude you replied to.

The death spiral of the SE was cast when it became too popular, and eroded Cook's drive to maximize gross margins. Even though, when applying the long view, a healthy SE marketplace would lock-up more customers onto Apple's long-term service strategy.

I actually agree. Was tempted by the XR (or even just the original X) as the ‘cheaper’ alternatives, mainly for he camera. Alas they have discontinued the X and the Xr is not only still expensive for the ‘cheaper’ alternative it’s just way too BIG! Almost as big as the plus size phones.

The iPhone 8 was already slightly too big for comfortable one hand operation. I personally LOVED the size of the 5. I get why the plus came about because they are popular with many ppl as a bridge between phone and tablet (and Samsung were selling loads of them) but come on! There’s no NOW small or even reasonably sized new phones in the range!!! I can only see ppl voting with their wallets until, low and behold, Apple and other retailers will realise that we don’t just want bigger and bigger screens and there is still a huge market for smaller phones.... we are all huge handed anericans Tim!

Give me a break, I work at a cellphone carrier and we only sell the SE's when they are a promo or really old people that don't want change. We barely sell them and most people are surprised Apple still make (made) phones that small, good riddance.

That’s cellphone carrier phone buyers for you. Not really a savvy segment of the market.

What are you on about ????

The XR has a very fair price. Plus it's set a cap for used Xs (would you rather have a new Xr or a 1-year old X?)

I'll wait 2 months and get a leftover new X for cheap or a lightly used one for what I hope is less than $700.

All of you clamoring for the SE fail to realize this is a business decision.

The SE had very limited users (clearly) and Apple made the decision to kill it because of what is probably low adoption.

If the SE were even close to popular, Apple would have updated it. It's simply not worth it as evidenced by the decision.

They also won't take away for the "iPhone Event" with a budget phone with a niche following. If anything, they'll release a new SE quietly in March after the excitement has died down.
Hah your signature says it all about your response.

Why do people think the SE is a niche product? It is perfect and I see it everywhere, almost all of my friends have one. I was planning on getting the SE 2 to replace my 6. It's a damn shame.

Are you in India, China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia or the Philippines?
