Apple is all about the bottom line. If the se was a big money maker they would continue with it. Period. Obviously mini phones have become a niche market so bye.

What is it fanboi’s say? Apple doesn’t make something just because you want it. If you want something they do not make then move on. This was stated a lot when people were asking about larger phones and apple was stuck on 4”.

Ha, feels good giving it back in the other direction.

Yes, they did what they've done countless times before...improved the iPhone. What continually amazes me is how they continue to hold press events as if they were doing something earth shattering.

When was the last time you think they did something earth shattering? Seems you may be buying into the hype too much.

The iPhone is a mature product. It's going to keep making incremental improvements, as they've done for years. You're highly unlikely to see huge leaps in it, just as you haven't from any smartphone in years.

Thank You, Mister Cook, for eliminating the only small phone in your line up. The only Phone, that is not a ridiculous phablet.

I had no idea, that You zeroed out customer satisfaction.

And still no new mac mini. Apple just hit rock bottom.

Bozos all over the place.

Steve would have never allowed this.
I was watching the event and when they announced their small screen phone, there it was complete silence but as soon as they announce the big screen phone, everybody started clapping like sea lions,
I respect who ever likes big screen or big phones but there is also people that like small phones

the only good news was the launch date of mojave, that's about it
and I don't know but every time I see Phil and just can't help myself, for some reason ALF always comes to mind
is it me or does he really look like ALF a little
sorry I meant no disrespect to ALF
:D

almost forgot, still no Mac Pro
can't wait for Tim to go away

This is a very sad day for me. As somebody who has been using Apple products since 1981, I am deeply disappointed.

It's about ergonomics. I want a phone that fits in the palm of my hand.

I have an iPhone SE because it's got a 4-inch screen. I have never upgraded any further because I do not want a phone that is any larger than 4 inches. Price and affordability have nothing to do with it for me. It's ridiculously simple. I want a phone that fits in my shirt pocket, because that's how I choose to carry my phone.

Also I'm nearsighted by nature, so I can very comfortably read books in small type on my 4-inch iPhone SE by removing my eyeglasses and holding the phone about six inches from my face. I want a phone that is so small and light that I can hold it in one hand, hold it up to my face and read books on it while i'm lying on my back in bed. I have read hundreds of Kindle books and iBooks on my iPhone SE; it's my preferred device for all reading tasks. My iPhone SE does everything that I need the device to do. I've never seen any compelling reason to get a larger phone with any other features.

4.7 inches, as in the iPhone 6 and 7 line, is too large for me. The 6+ and 7+ at 5.5 inches were much too large. Now the smallest phones that Apple sell are even larger, at 5.8 and 6.5 inches.

I have always laughed at people using phones with shattered screens. I have never cracked or shattered a screen on any phone I've owned because I have a small phone that I always keep safe in my shirt breast pocket, which has a flap over it. I'm so attached to my iPhone and this method of using a phone that I have taken to only wearing shirts with a breast pocket with a flap on it. I've adapted my wardrobe to work with my phone. It's all very practical and it works very well for me.

I suppose one benefit that Apple is going to get out of these huge new phones is that there will be many more accidents and shattered screens which will increase their profits for repair work.

So Apple has made their decision that the desires and needs of people like me, loyal Apple customer that I have been for almost 40 years, don't matter in their scheme of things. So I will hang on to my iPhone SE with its 4-inch screen and 640 x 1136 rendered pixel resolution, until it wears out and dies. If there are new features and iOS versions that won't run on my iPhone SE, then I will choose to do without those new operating systems and features, because it's all about ergonomics for me and the Apple iPhone is no longer ergonomic.

I certainly hope Apple comes around and, with their vast manufacturing capabilities and economies of scale, decides once again to offer a new-generation phone in a 4-inch form factor.

Sorry to break it to you, but Apple doesn't care what YOU think or feel.

Controversial? Certainly wasn’t at the time. And hell, Apple is more profitable now than ever, so it’s obviously worked out. Complain about Cook all you want - but, again, stop pretending Steve was perfect and never made a bad or controversial decision.

Yeah.

Like Exxon Mobil. They are super profitable too. Or Raytheon.

Bozo thinking.

Sigh..... looks like my SE is my last iPhone.

I just said the same thing to my wife just now. This makes me incredibly sad and very disappointed. I bought mine 100% outright when I got it; no installment or anything. It's the last iPhone that can sit flat on a table, or stand up on its own (bottom or side); it's great for photos and videos like that. No other iPhone can do that.

I don’t know if this has been posted yet or not, but consider the iPhone 8 product red and the 8 plus product red as also retired. I don’t see those available anymore on Apples website.

My iPhone X which was lagging for so many days has started running super fast after I checked the prices for the MAX.

Somebody in history (maybe Twain?) had a little joke that you made me think of with that post. I don't remember the exact wording but as I recall it, it was about young adults going off to college. It went something like this: "before I went to college, I thought my parents were unable to understand anything... unable to see or get anything right. Just 4 years later when I found myself in full adulthood mode, I just couldn't believe how much they had learned while I was away."

I don't think I wrote it as good as the original but hopefully it's still worth a chuckle to someone old enough to get it.

I miss the presentation; does the new Xs and Xr have:

1. 5G LTE radios inside it?

2 Come unlocked?

The weird thing with the 6 was that they went to big and bigger, v.s. keeping a smaller phone and just adding a bigger one. Maybe it comes down to hardware design. It's much easier to pack a lot of features in a bigger phone.

That’s most likely the case, things like the camera, FaceID, and even the physically bigger A series chips would be difficult to fit into the SE size body without really compromising battery life. Apple has never really made cheap, low end devices, so again, from Apple’s perspective, this makes sense.

So just to clear something up......3 years ago my 6S started at 599....for the newest latest and greatest iPhone. Today the iphone 8 (last years low end new iphone ) starts at the same price of 599. And now the latest and greatest starts at 999. Yes this is what apple has become sadly. Because the market is saturated they just jacked up all the phone prices to still make their quarterly results. I really do think its that simple.

I agree, it's left me feeling deflated - kind of repulsed by Apple's greed. I feel sick from it. Not nice.
I don't really understand all the people being offended (or pretending to be offended for the drama) by the pricing. The Xs is the same price as last year's X. That was what was expected. How are you shocked / offended by this? I'm quoting this poster but the same applies to all the others with similar ideas.

Does any of them come unlocked?

They did mention 5G LTE, no idea about getting them unlocked, but probably (as previous phones have been available unlocked).

Stop buying Apple and move on then? Fairly simple.

My SE last ~2 more yrs for updates, not worried now.

See what happens with market. It usually shifts after a while, now these growing phablets is giving Timmy money. Not everybody will adopt these big phones, market swings.
Not now, ok.

Something smaller will come again.

If anyone has a link to a comparison between the X and the one just announced that's "comparable" I'd really appreciate it.

Apple's Compare iPhone Models page allows you to pick any previous iPhone, back to the 6, 6+, and SE, to compare to the current iPhones.

https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/

I feel like the current lineup is quite confusing though... right off the bat, you have a comparison being "Super HD Retina" vs "Liquid Retina", where the 5.8" and 6.5" screens are both "Super HD" while the 6.1" screen is "Liquid". So... uh... which is better? There's a footnote marker, so you'd think going to that would lead to a helpful explanation. Instead, it just gets even more confusing telling you about how the corners of the screen are curved, so you actually have a different amount of viewing space than you think you have, and it continues to not explain what the different screen names mean.

I think if I'm forced to pick from the current models (I think I'll just wait another year instead...) I'd go with an iPhone XR and just buy a little zoom kit... can probably find something that offers a greater than 2x optical zoom. Maybe there's even a zoom accessory that you can control with an on-screen UI?
