Its the same as it always is, the "S" version is a minor bump and then the next version will see major improvements.

Being S is making me think twice (and the price!!). I was on the non-S (personal) upgrade cycle - so every 2 years - but now apple changed it last year with iPhone X I don't particularly want what is mostly considered a mid cycle upgrade... :( Im going to order and in the time it arrives ill decide after alittle more thought. I think they did it on purpose so to mess with peoples upgrade cycles and generate some extra cash

No, it hasn't. Is it different from the Steve days? Yes.

But there is no other tech company like Apple.

A12 Bionic is literally an AI supercomputer that fits in your pocket, and you're finding something to complain about.

And yet the closest phone to a computer is the Note 9, no slouch itself in the power sector. Go figure. What's the point in having computer-like power when Apple's definition of multitasking on the iphone is the app switcher?

Why would Apple... A phone bought second hand just means Apple isn't seeing money from that sale. 5G would make no sense to add to a phone at this point in time...
i dont work for apple
but
rather thinking the process of buying the next new iPhone and selling the old one. if you do this every 1 or 2 years. some where along the line i will be stuck with a relatively new iphone w/o 5g and it will have NO resale value.

It is important to think through a 5g plan

as i type this Verizon is out front actively digging, placing fiber for the new 30 foot "Small Cell" poles. Maybe YOUR 5G is 2 years out not here.

why would you come to a place called macrumors and expect anything but hate?
This site is not an exclusive PR platform for Apple Inc.
i want to here ALL the rumors.

I think you are referring to Verizon's 5G home service which will be available soon in 4 cities... The 5G standard was just completed in June and the antennas for phones were just recently made available to phone manufacturers.. It is going to be awhile before this catches on in any meaningful way unfortunately.

Apple can't simply put new tech into their iPhones before it's ready. Part of it is due to protecting margins, but the other big part is due to scale.

Ask yourself this. Can the modem suppliers crank out 200,000,000 5g modems this year at a steady pace (and good price)? If the answer is yes, then the iPhone will get 5g. If not, then that feature will come later.

I remember reading an article about McDonald's test chefs. They wanted to create a new item using an ingredient (can't remember what it was). Ultimately they could not offer that item because the entire world's supply of that ingredient would not be able to meet what McDonald's needed for a regular menu item.

The only way Apple could do 5g would be to put it in limited devices and increase the price so high match demandwith the limited supply.

Other manufacturers don't have these issues as their flagship devices typically do not make up the majority of their sales.

I don't think Apple has lost its luster at all. I think technology is not advancing as rapidly as it was during the OG iPhone days. Think about it, during that time, HD video was still a big deal. There wasn't MMS, or video recording. No App Store

We have SO MUCH packed into our iPhones now, and also an extension for our wrists, that it's hard to advance it as drastically as it was in the past.

That being said, I think the TouchBar MacBook Pro, AirPods, HomePod, and Apple Watch have all been fantastic products.

I watched just a summary of the nonsense yesterday, this clown on stage was talking about the new Watch. "I know you guys are worried about the battery life, but we are pleased to say, it hasn't changed.." What kind of spin is that?

They were able to redesign and re-engineer the watch without sacrificing the battery life. That's not spin. That's innovative. Why don't you take a look at the comparison of the S4 vs S3 https://www.apple.com/watch/compare/

At one point in time it was worth it staying in the Apple locked down egosystem. The technology far surpassed what other's were doing. Those times have long gone.. They are simply not an innovative company any more. Tricking those in to thinking, it's the latest, it's the best..

Needless to say I switched to Android 2 years ago, and haven't looked back. Sure Android's messaging system needs some love, but everything else is a better experience. It's not locked down, it's not controlled. I don't live with a bag of dongles and I am free..

Well, i'm not only moving on, I've moved on. You should as well.

May as well save this post to your clipboard to post again in two years, since this exact post seems to appear at least once each “S cycle” release.

Gaprofitt, if you are happy with these above results with S9+ there's nothing wrong in it. It's alright. Everybody has choices. Not everyone wants the best either. It's all according to their preferences.

If you want more customisation then Android is indeed your best bet.

But what's best in the world is not in our hands, it's these facts & figures and Apple sells 2-3 devices in a year, that's it. No other company does that. No other company has it's own operating system with own hardware integration. No other company has invested so much into innovation that they could come up with Face ID 3D Mapping Technology, Touch ID (Apple was first in industry) & now A12 Bionic 7nm Chip (Again first in industry). No other company has so many devices with cross platform and seamless sharing from Mac, iPad, iPhones, Apple Watches to Homepad. I have Apple TV 4K, iPhone 6 (Currently, sold iPhone X for buying iPhone XS Max), Apple Watch Series 1, MacBook Pro 2017 and AirPods. It is just magnificent how all these devices work together.

I can pick up calls from Apple Watch while I'm doing something or may be in the Gym or Running. I can use AirPods to watch Netflix in the night via Apple TV 4K while my wife is sleeping. AirDrop is massively quick to transfer files, photos & videos wirelessly from iPhone to Mac. Many times I make calls from Mac since I am working on my Mac and I don't want to use another device to make a quick call. This is Apple's World and it helps us. We don't love because it's Apple, we love because we can do such things and make our life more easier and better and live in the future and not crib about MicroSD slots and having no headphone jack, like seriously?

You can hate Apple but you can't take away these facts.

Android is a dumpster fire. It’s hot garbage.

I'm so sick and tired of this same old BS. Whether you use Apple or Android devices really matters little to me. Its preference. Some people drive Ford, some Toyota, who really cares. As long as it meets your needs thats all that matters. But having to come to a dedicated Apple forum to flag wave "Mine is better than yours" is just ridicules not to mention childish.

You’re talking about google android right?
The company that collects and monitors all your info?
Wow you really drank the cool aid.

Yup, on the other hand Apple has been losing touch for awhile now.

Not that I am disappointed by recent decisions by Apple like the apparent end of small one-handed phones to mention but one but overall still happy.

I can use my note 9 one-handed easily with add-on gestures (which is much better than iOS). Apple should make iOS UI better to support one handed use which currently is crap compared to Android.
