You keep writing inflation in quotes. Do you not think inflation is a real thing?

It is a real descriptor of the decay of what cash can buy.

I put it in quotes in some replies because I'm poking at it as a pure excuse in support of paying ANY higher price we are asked for stuff. I personally don't accept it as an excuse to pay any higher price.

Cash is worth whatever people as a group want it to be. They demonstrate its worth most tangibly by not parting with it very easily: "this cash I have here is worth more than that thing you want to trade with me for it"

My position is "inflation" is not making cash worth less... people are doing that as a group by being willing to part with more of it for less value in return... by accepting price hikes for about anything by blaming their acceptance of paying even more on a word. Where people do not roll over so easily, prices are NOT rising due to "inflation." In some things, prices are actually falling during these high "inflation" times right now.

There are no signs that people are willing to completely giving up premium streaming music on a large scale for the sake of protesting inflation prices. Tidal seems to be the only competitor that has not raised prices but we do not see a large scale of users flocking to Tidal (they recently lost subscriber numbers to Amazon Music). Rest of the industry has raised prices.

Correct! And that's why price hikes for such services keep rising and rising: people rolling over and paying more for the same vs. deciding enough is enough. Where they ARE doing the latter during these inflationary times, prices are falling.

That's the problem: sellers are raising prices and people are just paying up as a group... encouraging companies to raise prices some more. Record revenues get reported to delight shareholders, bonuses for driving record revenue gets paid. Now what? Let's see if they'll pay even more money for this same stuff: we can spin it as inflation again. And odds are they will. More records. More bonuses. More price hikes.

Until consumers as a group choose the NO option... or are forced there by price hikes BEYOND what they can afford.

Can they double my icloud space? Or let me add to it? Because it is a daily event trying to clear some… gotta love USING my 1TB ipad to store stuff. And then the family….
Of course, just go to your iCloud storage settings and change your storage plan.
There’s 50gb, 200gb or 2TB options available.

Sigh, just leaving my little stone to pile on the complaints mountain…
I’m not against the extra dollar sent to the Apple Music artists but for sure as heck against everything else, I don’t want MORE content that I can’t even see, when I can barely watch an episode a week of anything there already… I hope it doesn’t become yet another Netflix hose of infinite content barrage.

Maybe make it a two tiered thing… I would be willing to wait 6 months extra for the next Severance season (yes, six months), I would catch up with See, For All Mankind, etc which I haven’t seen a single episode of. Shave off all of the kids stuff.

Not liking where everybody is paying for everything when really needing a tiny subset… just like Cable TV plan days.

No. Competitors in the streaming space had external factors that cause them to raise prices just like Apple did. It's not because all streaming services got together and raised prices together because they know customers would pay either way. That would be illegal (which has been done in the past by gas companies). Competition keeps prices reasonable so that Apple can't just suddenly charge $500/mo for Apple Music.

Inflation caused the price increases. Plain and simple.

I just made the switch to Spotify at the beginning of the month. They finally added an equalizer to the MacOS desktop app. Now I have awesome sound quality and even better music algorithms. Thank you Spotify!

Just say no

It’s the only way any of this ever gets better

People will always pay a premium for convenience, I think Spotify and Apple Music can design a better interface and offer better features but they have the world hooked, it is just too easy to have almost every song at your fingertips, most people don't want to own music anymore or run their own server, growing your own food? Americans don't even want to expend calories to drive to pick up their food, it will only get worse.

I get Apple TV+ with my Apple One Premium subscription and I like using it occasionally, but I would never pay 7$ a month for it. The only service I couldn’t live without is Apple Music and iCloud+… Sadly, I may need to switch my Apple One service to a less expensive plan.

Apple today announced pricing increases for several of its services, including Apple Music, Apple TV+, and the Apple One bundles that include those services.

Apple-One-Apps-Feature-2.jpg

Apple Music is increasing in price by $1 for individual users and $2 for the family plan, while Apple TV is increasing in price by $2. All Apple One prices will also rise accordingly, according to information obtained by 9to5Mac. Full pricing is as follows:

Apple Music

  • Individual plan - $10.99/month, a $1 increase
  • Family plan - $16.99/month, a $2 increase
  • Annual plan for individuals - $109/year, a $10 increase

Apple TV+

  • Monthly plan - $6.99/month, a $2 increase
  • Annual plan - $69/year, a $20 increase

Apple One

  • Individual plan - $16.95/month, a $2 increase
  • Family plan - $22.95/month, a $3 increase
  • Premium plan - $32.95/month, a $3 increase
Apple says that prices are going up as of today due to increased licensing costs. For Apple Music, the increase will provide artists and songwriters with additional money for their music. The price of Apple TV+ is rising now that it has more content, according to Apple.

The pricing increases listed pertain to the United States, but prices will be going up in most countries. Current Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple One subscribers will receive notifications about the price increase 30 days ahead of when it is enacted, giving them time to cancel if they do not wish to pay the higher price.

If Apple Music and TV+ we’re premium products over their competitors I can see this, but they are just not. I wouldn’t be surprised if subscribers drop. I’m sure in the long run they will increase as competitors increase their prices as well.

Where is Apple Classical? We have to pay more money but we’re not getting additional value. Delivering on the promised classical improvements would be a big plus, at least to some of us.

Did you type classical in the search? There is all kinds of it there. Is that what you’re talking about?

There is one bit of good news from the press release/spokesperson thing:
“The change to Apple Music is due to an increase in licensing costs, and in turn, artists and songwriters will earn more for the streaming of their music.”
Apple Music already pays artists more per stream than Spotify, so if this puts them even further ahead I don’t think it’s terrible.
I don’t really care if Drake or Taylor Swift get a million less.

Spotify is still one of the worst for actually paying their artists, Spotify still hasn’t released the lossless tier they promised To release… back in 2021, Spotify still hasn’t implemented airplay 2 Support despite promising that three years ago, Spotify still hasn’t implemented HomePod support despite demanding it three years ago, Spotify still hasn’t implemented Dolby Atmos/Spatial Audio support, Spotify still doesn’t have a good way of organizing a library of combined streamed and personally added/on device music, and most importantly, Spotify already has been increasing prices internationally, and has already raise the price of their family plan, so it’s a matter of time before that trickles down to everyone.
Who cares what they pay the artists? If they don’t like the deal they should be going to Apple exclusively.
