Hey, if wages remain the same… inflation it’s a pretty stupid reason to give for increasing the prices of a digital service.
well no, wages increased, just not in line with inflation. https://www.piie.com/research/piie-charts/us-wages-are-rising-rapidly-not-enough-keep-inflation

regardless, to expect cloud pricing to stay the same while wages had the fastest increase in recent times would be ridiculous. also characterizing it as a "digital service" doesn't really hold much value as an argument.

I honestly think Apple should have waited for Spotify to announce a price increase 1st. They have the reserves of money to see it out for a good while, whilst Spotify to a lesser extent don’t. If Apple held out they could have gained a few users from Spotify before they increased their prices to match Spotify.

I wish Apple offered an annual plan that discounts monthly pricing.
This. I had Apple Music on a 12 month plan that was cheaper than paying monthly. At the time I got a years worth of Apple TV free. I would have paid for them both individually for 12 months each, but then Apple One came out.

I really don’t appreciate these kinds of explanations when Apple doesn’t provide them for every price increase for every product.

Not that they have to explain the price increases at all. Business are free to raise prices if they think it won’t hurt demand. That risk is for them to assess.

But why raise prices during times of inflation across the globe and then say it’s due to licensing costs and artists getting more money?

Or am I supposed to interpret this as a price increase due to artists and rights holders charging Apple more as a consequence of inflation hitting them?

This is the biggest problem. With Spotify already having such a large user base before Apple Music even existed, they really need to remain competitive if they want to continue bringing people over. Charging more than their biggest competition is not the answer.
I think we can expect a Spotify announcement on price increases fairly imminently.

My (EU) Apple One subscription is going up 18%/month.

Canceled.

Also, why is there no discount on any of Apple’s services for paying 12 or 24 months up front?

Did you also cancel your electricity subscription? Mine went up some 400% this year alone, but I kind of need it, so I still have it.

Apple does offer discount for yearly upfront. I got my Apple Music for €99/year, probably €109 come renewal time next year. I think I can handle that exorbitantly inflated price....

Did you just compare home electricity to Apple services subscriptions?

Not really the same thing is it? One you can live without.

Canceling Apple TV, there is barely anything good to watch on there anyways besides like 3 shows.

If as expected we see a Spotify increase, I’ve already informed the family that I’ll be cancelling and we’ll be going with our £2.20 a month YouTube Premium/Music sub.

Wow you must really have some specific tastes if you can only find 3 shows that are worth watching, everything we’ve watched so far have all exceeded our expectations

The Morning Show
Mystic Quest
SEE
For All Mankind
Slow Horses
Trying
The After Party
Foundation
Invasion
Blackbird - (a bloody fantastic watch)
Schmigadoon - (ok yeah musical types are not for everyone but it was pretty good)
Ted Lasso
Severance
The Year Earth Changed

There’s more seasons dropping soon for some of those which we’re very much looking forward to and there’s still plenty of other shows we haven’t even looked at yet.

Apple Music at $11 a month is about buying one CD a month. Better value on buying a CD. :)

Yes, but that's just one CD (a month) versus access to over 100 million songs immediately with new ones being added daily. If we assume the average CD has 12 songs, it would take over 8.3 million CDs to get the same number of songs. Granted, no one is going to be interested in every song on Apple Music. Plus, the CD is yours to keep.

Yes no one needs that much music. IMO it's better to buy what you want and keep forever than renting in perpetuity. Too many people are willing to sacrifice themselves to the corporate overloads and rent forever.

When I read the comments here and on other social media it's funny how people are defending Apple for this. Apple One is nothing you need for your life, like food, water, electricity and gas. But Apple can do whatever it wants. Even when 50 GB iCloud storage would cost 99 €, many people would pay for it, because it's Apple. Because everything Apple does is right and they know better what we need. Because they are only thinking about us, not about money, LOL.

I've only had Apple One because 2 TB costs 9,99 € and Apple Music Family 14,99 €, makes 24,98 €. So I've paid 4 € more for Apple One, having TV+ and Arcade as a nice have. 31,95 € is way too much for this product. I only need this 2 TB (50 GB for one and 200 GB for family is not even enough but typical Apple prices) and Apple Music. I could get Music cheaper for nearly 7 €, but family members are using it also, new price 16,99 €. So I am paying 26,98 € in the future only for Music and iCloud+, so at least 2 € less than before. Because I don't need this TV+ and Arcade ****.

But I have to thank Apple for this stupid price increasing. I've had checked all contracts I have, and subscriptions in the App Store and there is so much to cancel and downgrade.

Exactly, if you don’t want to pay for it, you don’t need to have it. It’s an optional luxury.

Where? We finally got one after THREE years, and it barely dents the spike in groceries.

Agreed.

(I do subscribe to Apple Music but if I actually want an album, you can be 100% sure I'll buy it on a physical format or legal download. Mine forever then, not until some faceless entity decides to no longer stream it to me.)
