Where has Apple Corporate posted this price increase? I cannot find a news story on their website about it and I have received zero email notifications about the price increase and when it's occurring (I see their current pricing on their website has already changed). I'm sure when I checked that "I have read the terms" agreement box with legal talk that it says in there that prices can change at any time without notification.

According to news stories, they are going to notify you personally before it comes up for renewal. But yes, I assume they don't have to do that anyway.

Raising prices on all of us without a valid given reason. 😭 The new pricing model should have been for new subscribers only.
The reason is rising content acquisition and production costs. I agree it would have been nice if existing customers were grandfathered at current prices, but then the price increase for new customers would have probably been even higher.

Yes no one needs that much music. IMO it's better to buy what you want and keep forever than renting in perpetuity. Too many people are willing to sacrifice themselves to the corporate overloads and rent forever.

It's probably worth noting that there are ways to record music from Apple Music and other streaming services and keep forever e.g., various music download/converter apps (some of which also have a subscription cost). One way or another, someone could subscribe for a month, record all of the songs they want and then unsubscribe. If desirable new songs are added later, they can repeat the process.

I believe they would always have to notify you of a price increase, you just don't have to actively accept it (but you do have to actively not acept it by cancelling).

I think we need one of our resident lawyers to chime in on this one so it can be confirmed one way or the other. Just as soon as they are doing being climate experts or whatever they are today.

if you go to your subscriptions the jacked up renewal price is already there..

Depending on the state they DO have to notify after a 12 month period IF the price is going to change. I would imagine that instead of trying to do it JUST for the states that require it, they will just do it for ALL since this is a step change on pricing that applies to everyone / everywhere

THANKS for THE confirmation on THAT. Just to be SURE, you are a LAWYER, right?

well no, wages increased, just not in line with inflation. https://www.piie.com/research/piie-charts/us-wages-are-rising-rapidly-not-enough-keep-inflation

regardless, to expect cloud pricing to stay the same while wages had the fastest increase in recent times would be ridiculous. also characterizing it as a "digital service" doesn't really hold much value as an argument.
It’s naive to think the costs of maintaining the servers have gone up 40% which is what they are increasing for Apple TV for example.

I keep thinking they have to raise ATV+ because you can get promos like candy, so they need to charge those ten people who actually pay more

I don‘t think one can really look at the “40%” price hike from a truly artificallly LOW 4.99 to $6.99 as indicative of inflation. We all knew this pricing was a loss leader entry price, hell they gave it AWAY for 1 year for 2 years after introduction with pretty much ANY apple purchase of a hardware product. They kept extending it during Covid as their production capabilities were limited and reduced and further extended what was a quite limited, but quality library of content. I don’t think there is ANY other streaming company that had an entry price this low, certainly not for THIS long. The closest thing in price (at $6.99 was discovery+ which IMHO is just s…t and the biggest wasted of money ever) They were trying to gain eyeballs and subscribers while letting the content library catch up. And to some extent they have.

The timing was probably put off, and now planned but the timing is now odd and out of sync with the streaming market as consumers are tightening their belts, churning more, making SOME choices about what services to keep, downshift in capabilities, etc.. Most streaming companies in the past 60 days have offered some significant discounts at least for an ANNUAL sub to commit and pay upfront. I doubt apple will do that, other than maybe offering a current annual sub, or monthly sub ONE LAST CHANCE to buy at the 49.99$ annual rate when their current plan comes up. They certainly don’t want to lose anyone at this point as this is going to be a growth area for future revenues.

Apple needs to start offering discounts based on income like Amazon does for it's Prime.
I dont think that will happen with apple in this case, but I will say Amazons program isn’t really just an “income” based program.. one has to have qualified for some clearly defined FEDERAL or STATE government subsidy and low income programs (that are not only/just income based) and be able to prove that out to amazon in order to get a ~ %40 discount on Prime. For Amason it often ends up being a requirement as well as many ppl on those programs DO use amazon for buying things like food, and necessary health/medical supplies that qualify as valid expenses for some of the government programs for food, “food stamps”, CHIP programs and other state programs like MediCAID and MediCAL, etc.. I don’t think one can just say they only make $15K a year, and get access to the program.

Premium prices increases but no icloud storage increase in sight, why am I not surprised, given how i share my data with my family a week ago i got the 10% space left reminder and boy do my kids have some dumb stuff saved in their libraries. Lolol seriously though apple

2 TB isn't enough space for your family?

Wow you must really have some specific tastes if you can only find 3 shows that are worth watching, everything we’ve watched so far have all exceeded our expectations

The Morning Show
Mystic Quest
SEE
For All Mankind
Slow Horses
Trying
The After Party
Foundation
Invasion
Blackbird - (a bloody fantastic watch)
Schmigadoon - (ok yeah musical types are not for everyone but it was pretty good)
Ted Lasso
Severance
The Year Earth Changed

There’s more seasons dropping soon for some of those which we’re very much looking forward to and there’s still plenty of other shows we haven’t even looked at yet.
But that is the thing, everyone's tastes are different. Despite repeated claims this forum that "Netflix has nothing to watch anymore" I somehow find way more to watch on Netflix than I do on Apple TV+. The last show I watched on aTV+ was 5 Days at Memorial. It was really good, but it was also several months ago.

Of your list, the only shows I have watched repeatedly are TMS, Mystic Quest, FAMK, Schmigaddon, and Ted Lasso. And, of those shows, there is nothing IMHO, that is earth shattering.

I tried to watch Foundation and Severance, I couldn't even get through one episode of Severance and Foundation bored me to death.

But, if you like these shows, great!

In my opinion, the problem with Apple TV+ is not quality but quantity. Severance, for example, is one of the best show I've seen in a while... (You have to watch the first few episodes to really get into it) but Apple doesn't add enough content to justify paying a monthly subscription. Netflix on the other hand has so much content it's almost impossible not to find something to your liking.

engineer wages.
hardware costs due to chip shortage.
TV production costs.
music licensing costs.
all went up.

it's naive to think Apple is maintaining the same level of investment in TV in an extremely competitive space.

and we've gotten/are getting new features = more bandwidth/compute needed.
