Out of curiosity......how exactly it run laps around every other phone in the market? If anything, it has finally caught up to any other flagship in the market, and how do you know it will keep doing this for at least one or two more generations?

Is good Apple has finally caught up with the competition, but they aren't innovating either. Every single feature on this "Future of Smartphones" had been available in the competition before, from the edge to edge OLED screen to Windows hell0...sorry, face ID!

Is cool the caught up and is a cool device, what is not cool is that they also introduced another minor update to their 2014 model, sold it as the iPhone 8 line at the same usual flagship prices (slightly higher) and to use this as an excuse to bump to 1000 the usual flagship........that's a rip off and they do it because they can get away with it. I'm sure if no one purchased this phone, it would be reduced by at least 200 but obviously that will not happen, as Apple followers will just get the newest phone no matter what. Apple knows this and now is capitalizing it.

iPhones have been much faster than Android phones for a while now (regardless of specs). Most Android flagships are around 6s level. The 7 from a year ago is still considered faster than the Note 8 in terms of raw power, fluidity, multitasking, ram management, and real world usage. There are a bunch of videos of this already. The 8 and X take that even further. Android manufacturers and their off the shelf processors will continue to be behind Apple for years to come. I think that is what he means.

Pretty dramatic about a phone. A PHONE. I read an article today that talked about why we feel so uptight, frustrated and impatient about something we want, and then once it is released we feel relieved not because of the new phone or whatever, but because the anxiety, and frustration we felt while waiting for the product was alleviated. Apparently in this case, the OP was frustrated, and the release of a new product has not alleviated his anxiety or anger. I don't blame you.
Remember, you are talking about someone's PRECIOUS.

Still amuses me even after all my years of using mobile phones that some people love having pissing contests to what mobile phone they use.

Guys the hardware is pretty much similar across flagship models in particular.

It's the software that's more important !

Yes there is a valid argument as to why create a thread about it in the first place but a counter argument is people feel the need to vent which is one of the many reasons why this and other forums exist.

I decided after the release of the iPhone 7 to try elsewhere- I'm happy which at the end of the day is all that counts to me.

If we all liked the same then the sector would imo become rapidly stagnant. ;)

Same here, I want a tool not a toy. I do play games on it, on occasion but that's just to pass the time, such as commuting. I depend on my phone as its my connection to work and family.
Can't see a truly useful reason to spend money to upgrade past my 6 (at least right now) and obviously haven't since they released the 6S.

I don't equate living it up with spending money, though (I don't think you do, either). For me living it up is about having no debt, an old used car, a small place so that I cannot buy anything to junk it up with, a condo that someone else takes care of (no lawn or roof to fix), and time to travel the world. Happiness. My partner moved to Finland recently and furnished the whole place for about 500 Euro using a second hand store. Lovely stuff, too. Lovely country, as well. Its citizens don't run around worrying about a health catastrophe bankrupting them or how the loss of a job will result in losing health insurance, for example.

BTW, to travel the world these days, Google's Project Fi is the ticket. If you have to stick w/ iPhone, get a Pixel long enough to activate that Fi SIM and transfer it to the iPhone. There's nothing better.

Another great thing about traveling the world is that you see that most people don't give a hoot about iPhone, much less the latest model. Puts all of this hype into perspective.
double thumbs up. agree with and already follow your entire philosophy.

I have to agree with pretty much everything the op has said... With that being said I still prefer Apple over anything else. I feel that the iPhone x we are getting this year was plan B. So I'm waiting for next years x to come out and see how that one is. Before the fanboys flame me to oblivion I do own only Apple devices such as iPhone, MacBook Pro, watch, and AirPods. I love that Apple seems to do everything so well with there devices. Which is also probably why we have to wait a little longer to get nice things.

Wow, OP is so cool and sophisticated and awesome!

I wish I could be as cool and sophisticated and awesome as you, OP!

Have fun with your piece of **** Samsung phone.

Instead of getting angry and replying in a hateful style, you could have said "I disagree, but your angle is interesting." There's a civil way to chatting and being respectful. I'm not telling you what to do, but suggesting that showing some class goes a long way :)

Actually Samsung phones are excellent, and all of the features of the X have been on the **** Samsung phone for years.

Exactly :)

Will wait for all of you leaving to cry and come back when AR becomes more and more hot and Apple has the best device for it. :)

Is AR that big a deal though on a phone? I always thought a phone was to make calls, send text messages, bit of social media stuff.. Man I'm getting old lol

What would you like to see new added to the iPhone? Smartphones have reached a peak where they do everything most people want them to do. Companies still come out with new gimmicks to sell people on upgrades, but they are getting close to new announcements being about as exciting as new appliances being announced.

^^^This. Same with the But the new model looks like the old model. No s**t Sherlock. It's a rectangular slab of glass. Form factors and sizes have pretty much settled. We seriously need to stop looking at a phone as a status symbol and start looking at it for what it is, a tool.

Exactly...

Having watched demos the past couple of days, it is really cool. Just because your getting old doesn't mean you shouldn't stay current unless you choose to.

I loved the how the IKEA demo showed you could position their furniture someplace in the real world.

Most companies that have done AR are doing stuff like this, the best representation of AR for gaming (Microsoft Hololens), you must watch the videos and catch up:
Minecraft Demo

Alien Invasion Demo

The problem with all these companies doing VR and AR in my opinion is they all depend on putting these "goggles" right in front of your eyes, I just feel that is going to cause eye strain or make real some kind of health risk in the long term...

Apple makes your phone the gateway to another world, and not the goggles you put right in front of your eyes.

The stuff put into that world knows where horizontal surfaces like walls and floors are, so they can interact in the environment as if they were really there. Horror games would probably make a ton of money putting ghosts in AR. Halloween will be immersive this year.

It's not a big deal now because there are no Apps that use that except for yesterday, and previous attempts that are cool have been way too expensive (Hololens is very costly), or poorly done. The math is very complicated as you may imagine.

Phone calls is now an app on your mobile pocket computer. Carriers don’t even limit or count call minutes any more.

I think you jumping to quickly here on what you see, and it being cool and all that. The fact that they are punting AR on their device as a major feature, is a bit strange. How much or that AR things, are people in general actually going to make use of right now?

Its all good and well to show case it, but is that really what people expect to see from a phone as things currently stand? It would be nice if OEM's actually provide a set of new features, that you could use in a more productive way right now. In my opinion, a phone is still a phone that is used to do the basics, and we focus way too much on other gimmicky things

I bailed on Apple - after iPhone 4S - when they refused to make a larger phone because "nobody" wanted that (and other companies had been making larger phones for 2-3 years).
Came back for the 6 plus and 6S plus. Bailed on them this time because of what I see as regurgitation of the same phones and "holding off" on features other manufacturers have had for years - just to sell phones and keep fan boys happy. Tired of it.
Announcing something and not having it ready for even pre sale - for months? And Apple announcing the homepod -1/2 year before its released. at 2+ times the cost of Alexa. THATS a joke. Sheesh.

I got my Note 8 a week early from when Samsung said it was going to be delivered. There are hidden features in the note 8 that they don't even advertise. The elitist attitude Apple has, worked back when they were the top dog. It aint flying with me any more.

Yes there will be people standing in line for the iPhone X just like Apple wants.

Consider it a tradition, a salute to the first iPhone on it’s ten year anniversary. The first iPhone was announced like six months before availability. Seems only fitting the anniversary edition is also a bit delayed.
Tongue in cheek...........
