Hmm, I am now glad I traded mine in but I'm concerned to see how things unfold with my 7 Plus over time...

How's it doing now, though? My 7 is still storming, at least with a reasonably well-charged battery. I haven't tested it with the battery low, but that's a different issue. My point is that this is going to unfold however it does, and most of us have lots of things that are a lot more important than worrying about whether we're getting 2016 performance from our phone, or 2014 performance. At least I hope so. :) Not trying to be snarky, just trying to inject some perspective.

I wonder if the phone stays underclocked while plugged in?

This is a valuable find. If my "fast" 6s can be kept relevant with a new battery I see no reason to upgrade, so long as performance is adequate.

That's terrible. So it most likely is almost all 6s you think?

pffft - obviously you are a Samsung troll

My iPad Pro , about 4months old. Tested fine.

Geek bench results of my 6s while plugged in charging.

Be better if we had the option of using the phone with a weak battery and getting throttled or using the phone with a weak battery and not getting throttled. Could give us the choice while we decide to either get a replacement battery or new phone. But then Apple has never been much about giving us choices. Look at the home screen grid. Ridgidly unchangeable. Put those damn icons where we tell you to put them and like it! Sorry for the digress, but Apple pisses me off at times.

My 6s is benching slower than a 5s
My 6S is slower than my 6th gen. iPod Touch. I took it in to Apple because the battery life has been terrible, and Coconut Battery reports that the battery is between 75 and 80% capacity with 350 cycles on it. Apple's diagnostic shows the battery has 93% life which means they won't replace the battery, so now I'm stuck with a phone that's way too slow, with terrible battery life, and I can't get Apple to fix it.

iPad Air 2, bought back at launch, a year older than my 6s. Original battery, used heavily daily. Tested fine. Makes me wonder what is going on with the 6s

This is looking like an isolated issue with the 6S.

Possibly lots going on with the 6S, maybe? We know that Apple had at least some units that had battery problems worth a recall. Please, please, be sure I am not an Apple hater or conspiracy theorist - but I think it's very fair to say from past problems that Apple likes to make sure that it acknowledges only the tip of iceberg-problems. It would not be shocking if this were being handled the same way.

There were reddit posters complaining about the 7 and 7 Plus, but (apparently) smaller numbers and maybe there's a charge state vs. battery state issue that was affecting their devices (I think that one's a different issue).

Go online and buy a new battery and replace it yourself. They are $25 and come with instructions and tools. Screw paying apple $80+. Rocking the 6 after ios 11 made my phone completely useless. Thanks apple

I've done that several times over the years and honestly my experience has been that even batteries from suppliers I trust a lot, well-known businesses, don't perform as well as original Apple batteries. I'm not the only one who feels that way - there were some posts from another MR member yesterday that said the same, and he had detailed Excel spreadsheet tracking to back up his conclusions (I never bothered).

I hadn't heard that but I honestly didn't do much research. I'm just looking for a quick fix and I wanted to avoid having to pay $80 for a battery. I only need it to hold out one more year so I can get on of the new Xs models

I always thought the 6s was a speedy phone. To find out even my iPod touch can outperform it (even with it's horrible battery life) is pretty surprising. I wonder if this affects 6 Plus or SE as well. I'm guessing the architecture of the A10 and A11 somehow prevents this.

Why is everyone so upset? It seems like a pretty good technique to elongate the usage of your device instead of being out of juice every 10 mins

Instead of saying that maybe your phone needs servicing, it silently makes it sluggish so you end up buying a new phone eventually. It's essentially a bait and switch, you bought a fast phone and as it gets older it gets slower.

Mine seems fine according to all tests I can do. I don't have a Mac, so I can't use Coconut Battery. I have run my 7 Plus on battery saver for the most part of the year I've owned it. So that might have helped maintain the battery.

It's a fine technique as long as they tell us it is being implemented then I'd have no problem with it. But if my battery were down to only lasting 10 min I'd have been long gone to a solution elsewhere. Furthermore, I'd really be wondering how much more on screen time we're actually getting in real world usage with the throttle as opposed to no throttle. I've come across tons of folks with old, weak batteries that just keep them plugged in a lot to use. This should mimic a good battery but doesn't?

I'm not finding coconut battery for some reason, but previously I thought it was selling for $30. Kinda pricey for a battery check.
