An Apple Maps vehicle came through my area of New York City around seven or eight months ago. (I saw it myself while on the highway.) But the Look Around footage has not been updated past April 2021. Not sure why it would take so long to update the imagery.

This is interesting…I drove to New Jersey twice today. On both trips, I took a different route to get to the George Washington Bridge. But on both trips, I took the upper level of the bridge to Exit 72B for US-1/9 South.

On the two trips, Apple Maps’ exit info for Exit 72B displayed differently. I’ve never seen such a discrepancy like this before.

Note: On both trips, Siri announced the directions as “Take Exit 72B on the right onto US-1 South, and US-9 South, toward US-46.”

On the first trip, I was wondering why Siri was announcing “south”, when it wasn’t showing in the text. Siri normally reads what you see. But there have been some instances where Siri said something completely different.

Flyover imagery has been updated in the Phoenix area.
Building shadows and colors seem darker compared to other flyover imagery.

Just saw a post on Reddit saying testing has started in Austria, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
I’m really looking forward to getting Apple’s own map data here in Sweden. Now if only Apple would let me test it before the official release. I haven’t been able to view updated map data during any other earlier tests.

I use Apple maps daily as I feel it's the best service. So far I experienced only 1 wrong announcement. With Google I could literally kill myself. Sometimes it's asking me to go for a walk in the middle of nowhere.
Can't wait to test the new redesign for Austria.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that I got access to Apple’s own new data in Austria, Finland, Norway and Sweden on my Mac. Just let me know if there is anything that you want to see that hasn’t been posted here or on the subreddit yet 😁.

Per Reddit thread and copied below from Apple Newsroom, Maps adding detailed US soccer stadiums to Maps to coincide with the MLS Apple TV offering.

"When the season kicks off on February 25, fans can visit Apple Maps to explore dedicated Match Day Guides created by MLS clubs, including Atlanta United, Nashville SC, and Toronto FC, and find recommendations for local bars and restaurants to catch a game, detailed information about their stadiums, and more. Maps is also launching several new custom-designed three-dimensional landmarks of MLS Stadiums in time for the season openers, including Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey; Lumen Field in Seattle; and Audi Field in Washington, D.C."

Sounds like Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands also have cycling directions now as well. Should be interesting to see what Apple has next in line!

I recall on Reddit recently, that was mention of a lot of backpack collection going on in the US and most (if not ALL of it) ends in July (June, maybe? Haven’t looked at the website). Could mean something in terms of a wider release of something by September At one point, I figured backpack collection could be related to Look Around releases (like maybe they wanted to start releasing Look Around areas only AFTER doing BOTH vehicle and backpack collection). I’m doubting that a bit though because my county (Chicago area) has had both vehicle and backpack collection done…but we don’t have the detailed city experience or Look Around. Both of those collection methods were done here a year (maybe longer at this point) ago.

Still smells like something that’s being done in conjunction with the release of the goggles. Timing seems right.

Which, speaking as someone who isn't interested in the goggles whatsoever...is a little irritating, especially when you look at how close or far the release of those may be 😂 I'm a massive tech geek, but the goggles are honestly the only product I have absolutely zero interest in. Actual GLASSES though...that's where you'd get me!
But yeah, considering all the Look Around data is there, there's really no other excuse/reason I could think of!

But since we in the US usually get everything first, the fact that multiple countries now have gotten full releases of it while we're still limited to the cities...is fair 😂

I think it is pretty clear at this point that Apple changed the way they collect LookAround data shortly after or at the tail end of the initial USA mapping period. It's not like the US even has 1/2 the restrictions to make it NOT be released if they had the proper data. Still predicting a mass release...at some point...well after I initially predicted... :(

Put Maps on CarPlay as usual this morning to head to church and it was showing a very pulled out camera angle that I’ve never seen before. Basically instead of giving me a few blocks of view, I was getting several kilometres of road ahead.

It was so unusual, even my wife noticed and she rarely uses mapping apps.

I hope that is an upcoming feature and not a bug. The “few blocks” view is not super-helpful all the time, especially at highway speeds.

It didn't happen today on my drive to work (which follows about 90% of my drive to church), so I'm thinking a glitch or some sort.

I had been using Maps all last week in my wife's Rav4 and never happened at all. First time back driving my own car, I got the funky wide angle lens.

Speaking of bugs...there is some EPIC nonsense going on with Siri pronouncing road names. In particular with the Cross Island Parkway Service Road in Queens.

For the past few days, although the visible direction in the black box looks correct, Siri will announce, "Turn left onto Cross Island Parkway Cross Island Parkway Service Road." ...Repeating Cross Island Parkway twice. It does this consistently.

Today...I can't even repeat what Siri tried to say. But it was something along the lines of:

"Turn right onto Cross Island Parkway Cross A-G-H-E-dollar sign Island Parkway Servich Road."

The exact string of letters I can't recall, but I do remember there being a dollar sign in there. And then she butchered "Service".
It used to do that for Rt 309. I would say take the exit for IOI blah blah. Don't know if they ever fixed it since we haven't gone that way in a while.

Is anyone else here hearing crazy street names?

"Turn left onto 29th Road quotation mark."

"Turn left onto Cherry Avenue ow".

"Turn left onto Cross Island Parkway Cross Island Parkway SerVICE Road south dollar sign."

This has been happening to me regularly since iOS 16 debuted. Happens consistently at the same locations every single time.

While I've uncovered many such locations here in New York City, it's not limited to The Big Apple. I heard one or two of these in Chicago or Iowa late last year.
At least on Google some streets it also has some T### for it. Not sure if it is on Apple Also or what it even means. The best one time was when Apple said in 1000ft turn left on to...on to what??? And this was an actual road and not a parking lot or some road within a business.

Interesting, that the opposite of what I hate about Google sometimes. It'll zoom in so far, I have no idea what is coming up.

I noticed that the view on CarPlay had also changed on my side. Another thing I noticed, when Maps announces a hazard, the timer no longer displays seconds but a distance. This makes it possible to confirm or not the hazard even if there is a traffic jam.

don't have a different view here in Belgium. The hazard indication did change as you describe it, and it stay up longer than location it warns about, allowing for a correct confirmation, whereas with the timer the message typically disappeared before I got there...
