Just had my first driving experience with Apple Maps after updating to IOS15. 3D stuff looks nicer, for sure. But I am wrong that the font size of street names and POIs has gotten smaller? Hard to read, even on the relatively large 12” display in my car. Especially in dark mode, these tiny orange letters are absolutely not legible to my eyes. If only there could be a font size setting for the various aspects of maps!

Do a hard restart...it should show up.

...and I still can't believe I missed out on getting detailed routing video by 4 days. Oh well, back in a few weeks.
That’s how I felt when the new maps were being released the last time around. Alaska got the new maps, if I’m remembering correctly, just days after I went home ???

Anyone else seeing these…uhh…separation lines at certain points in the streets? Like a seam?

Also, just noticed something interesting…if you’re within the “City Experience” zone in 2D mode, the button to switch to 3D is always visible.

But if you’re in a “normal” area, there is no button to switch to 3D. Just like on older Maps, you have to switch to satellite view first, or pinch with your fingers the right way.

Testing, 1 2 3… Just wanna see if the directions/ETA bars are taking up less horizontal space compared to iOS 14.

Hmm…slightly smaller? I noticed that certain directions that used to take only one line on my ultra-widescreen were now bumped back to two lines.

But I think the text in the directions box is also resizing itself…when I first got onto the Clearview Expressway above, “To Northern Blvd” was on one line, with “and NY-25A” on the line below. But as I got closer and the lane guidance appeared, it seemed to shrink down onto one line.

It was a very odd highway drive over here…the camera never zoomed out at all while on the highway. It was zoomed in close as though I were on a local road, and 3D buildings were briefly appearing if I was on a curve.

I wonder if highway driving (or driving in general) within the new City Experience zones on CarPlay will be funky until they send out the CarPlay update.

I remember that! You were all psyched to get them on your trip and you missed out!

Zoom level doesn’t make a difference? I always use driving mode and zoom level seems to drive when I see them.
Nope. I zoomed up and down and all around on the Driving layer, and the County Road shields just won't appear. I already sent the screenshots to Apple to report it.

Not sure if you've noticed, but when zoomed out and swiping about on the map, the map temporarily freezes up when you "leave" a City Experience area. This happens while zoomed out, when you're not getting any of that extra detail anyway. This also happens when zooming out to the point where you lose that added detail.

Interestingly, this "freeze" occurs even in cities that don't currently have the City Experience, making me wonder if it's a consistent "level" that's set across the whole map, despite most cities not having City Experience yet. Even in, say, Las Vegas, I get the same freeze at the same point when zooming out. (At the point where you would lose the added street detail.)

I've noticed this as well here with Chicago. And not just with the city itself. Even in my area, which is at the very edge of the metro area and unlikely to have the super detail when Chicago gets it...I still experience this "freeze".

Is anyone having issues with walking directions where turn by turn-by-turn alerts are not delivered consistently?

This impacts haptic alerts on Apple Watch.

I have tested in NYC several times in the last day and haptic alerts for turns are not received on every turn.

I think the London city experience feature won’t be too far away, I was in satellite looking over Big Ben/ Elizabeth tower & the Houses of Parliament and swapping back to explore showed a detailed building (with lights and all - similar to the US ones) for about 1-2 seconds. Too fast to screenshot and haven’t been able to get it to do it again trying it out

The 15.1 beta is out. Downloading right now.

Come on, Apple...surprise me with the CarPlay stuff in this one, please!!! I doubt it, but I can dream!

It seems that County Road shields only appear on the map while in the “Explore” layer. If you switch to the “Driving” layer, they vanish!

No longer the case on 15.1.

Switching between the those two layers, the shields remain.

I actually find the decision to use the shields is an interesting one. Most (if not all) of our county routes have actual names. The names no longer show on those roads. Just the shields. No one in the area refers to the county routes by their numbers (which for our county are "A" followed by two digits).

To make up an example (this isn't an actual county road here) but let's say you have county route A50. The A50 shield sign is posted along that route, but everyone knows that route by it's name "Cedar Rd". On the map, it is no longer labeled as Cedar Rd. It's just labeled with the shield A50, which no one refers to it as around here. I think it would make sense to have it show both the shield AND the road name (on roads that have a name).

Are you in the US? Wait, of course you are.

When I scroll around, if the County Road shield is visible, the name pops in as well at points. For Interstate shields and State Route shields, only the shield appears when zoomed out, but when you zoom in past a certain point, the shields vanish, and you get just the name. I think that works best.

So I just did a round trip to Best Buy. Going there and coming back were two completely different experiences! Will provide pics in a little while. Gotta run one more quick errand.
