I’ve been driving mostly with CarPlay, but occasionally drive with my phone only, so I can record video of the true, detailed maps and navigation.

Today, for the first time EVER while driving on a highway (for me at least), the camera switched to the touted “interchange view” when approaching some exits. Video to come later.

You were doing so well…until you ran the stop sign at the top of the ramp to the LIE.

What are we going to do about this?

(I’m watching this video over dinner in Boston. Heaven help me if anyone catches me watching a YouTube video of a Maps routing! )
There's actually no stop sign at the top of that ramp. Not sure why Apple thinks there is, unless the Apple Maps car originally drove through when that bridge was being replaced, and I *think* there was a stop sign during the construction.

Thinking out loud here. We already know that the CarPlay update is scheduled for "later this year". iOS 15.1 seems to be all about SharePlay. No signs of major CarPlay stuff so far.

At first, I was thinking we might start seeing some things later on in the 15.1 beta cycle, but we probably aren't too far off from the official 15.1 release at this point. If we were going to see major changes to CarPlay with 15.1, I think we would have seen it by now. I have a feeling 15.2 will be all about Maps and CarPlay...hopefully! (It'll have to be if they want it out by the end of the year)!

OK, we’ll let you go with a warning…this time!

We should start a pinned thread to help decipher Apple statements. E.g., “Later this year” usually seems to mean “the last possible moment we can ship this in the calendar year”.

I do think 15.2 will have some goodies. Hopefully universal Look Around and enhanced CarPlay are among them.

Veering a bit into “Speculation Mode”, I think we’ll see 15.1 next week, followed by a 15.2 8-week beta, with a final release around 12/15 (as Applers begin departing for the year).

As I mentioned in an earlier post, there’s an iOS 15 glitch where one or two of your most recent destinations will randomly vanish. Here is proof, as the Arby’s and the school I navigated to in my video (part 2 will upload tonight) have both vanished.

I wonder if we will start seeing the new Australian maps appear around then too, since they're meant to be this year (plus I swear I saw it go to 3D buildings once, like how I saw London's Big Ben appear once). Im very much excited to see how navigation changes with the new maps

We should at least see a preview first.

And you probably did see what you thought you saw. That’s been very common in the months leading up to a release.

Anyone notice that a bunch of Justin's posts have disappeared from his site? Was hoping to see his big post about the new map and there's a lot of his analysis missing now.

Hoping the preview is soon. The maps here are starting to be a little painful when I can see the fancy features overseas

Ah glad i’m not going insane! I thought I saw the same with London before it got the new 3D detail (posted about it earlier)! Was there any way to trigger it to appear?

No, I don't think users can trigger it; its all server side. Not sure if its done diagnostically (to see, for example, how it affects bandwidth, etc...) or is just a glitch.

Man, iOS 15.0.1 has been pretty bad. An intersection in my neighborhood that changed from a stop sign to a traffic light a few years ago (and Apple Maps updated), has now suddenly reverted back to showing as a stop sign on the map!

As much as maps has improved in recent years, the database needs improvements. Recently, I had to add a missing Panda Express that's been there for years, and just yesterday I reported a problem that a burger chain restaurant near my block was actually a house lol.

I don't get why things like that happen. They really need to figure out how their back-up data works.

I was so surprised last month when I went to drop my car off at my mechanic. They had recently moved and Maps had the correct address. The location on the map was technically correct as well, but since it was a new building, I edited their location to reference the correct entrance spot. When they notified me a few days later that my correction was noted, asking for directions brought me to their old location, but the address was still correct in Maps...how is that even possible?

And now, I just checked...when I look it up, it shows the correct address but the location on the map is wrong...when I correct, it shows it correct on the map as well. Both old and new location are shown.

Correct address but old location shown on map

I was attempting to correct again, but if you look to the left of the pin, you can see they already corrected from my last input. Not sure what to do here except “correct” again.

I don’t understand why the map is so zoomed in when driving on fast main roads with the next junction 15-20 miles away. Let me see more of the road! I’m sure it wasn’t like this is iOS14. Hopefully it’s a bug rather than a new feature.

I believe it’s intentional, but we’ll need to wait and see how things look when CarPlay gets updated later this year.

I got a bunch of “we fixed things!” messages today, based on the new reporting system under iOS 15. But I went to those locations and didn’t see changes yet. lol

I had about 5 address updates that show up in two different spots on the map area. One was relocated from the correct spot to a home across the freeway from me. I do enjoy updating addresses but it’s frustrating when reporting something time after time and it keeps being put in the wrong spot. I still have a few things that I’ve submitted as fixes that nothing has happened on. Also I like that Apple shows you what you’ve submitted for review but I wish there was a more granular system. Like have a split plane that shows what’s in review and the other what has been updated.
