There still seems to be the really infuriating issue where when navigating, the pin is in the correct location, but the directions take you somewhere totally different (screenshot attached)! I usually pay attention to make sure they match, but I’ve been caught out twice this week whilst in a rush.

Of all the types of reports I send to Apple, this is the only type of report they NEVER fix! It’s so annoying.

Any idea if I can raise this issue higher up?
Had this issue before, it got fixed about 2 weeks later. The thing is, if I am a casual user and I got this issue once, I would never use Apple Maps again.

I don't use pin drops for navigation often, but I do use them. Have never heard of or experienced this issue ever.

So is there a different server for CarPlay? The gas station near by house is Marathon (which is correct) on my iPhone. On CarPlay it is labeled as a BP.
I see something similar, seems that an old POI is still shown next to the correct one? What POI is shown seems to depent on the zoom level both on the phone and in CarPlay, yet slight different:
- In CarPlay it shows a gas station as Shell (although this isn’t the case anymore for over 10 years), to then magically change to the brand it is now when I get closer.
- On the phone, while zooming in the correct POI is shown first to then also show the old name as a second POI right below the new name.

Although the CarPlay screen is way bigger than my phone (it could also shown both below to each other) it doesn’t show the two POI’s…

Reported ;-)

Here are two videos from an Uber ride to work from about a week and a half ago, well before the release of iOS 15.1. The sound is off so I wouldn't disturb the driver.

Part 1

Part 2

Things of note:

-LaGuardia Airport has some funkyness going on with its buildings, where it looks like one is overlapping another.
-In the second video, as I'm about to get off at Exit 29 from the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, Apple Maps looks like it's about to transition into the junction view, but then gives up and zooms out again. This used to happen all the time at that exit, but it appears to have been fixed with iOS 15.1. I'll have another video soon.

There are still noticeable differences in camera placement and details between portrait and landscape views on the phone. With most cars having landscape-oriented screens, I wonder what the level of detail will ultimately be once we get the CarPlay update.

And here are some screenshots from a recent drive on CarPlay, where my camera angles are still wonky at times.

I drove 160 miles yesterday with CarPlay /maps on the whole way on 15.2 and saw nothing like that.
I'm on 15.2 as well and haven't seen any new level of detail so far. But I also don't live in a "super-detail" area. I was hoping that those of us not in those areas would still get something, and as MozMan has noted in the past, it IS mentioned separately from the "super-detail" on the iOS features. So fingers are still crossed. At the absolute minimum, if they can roll out the lane marking details and 3D interchanges to everyone I think that would be good enough for now. The elevation data, trees, etc...is not at the top of the list of importance (at least in my opinion). Lane markings and 3D interchanges would be VERY useful though. Plus, if you've ever looked at an area that does have this and work your way towards where it isn't released yet...when you hit the cutoff point, you'll notice the behavior when it disappears. (Kinda tough to explain it, but you'll notice it if you look and pay attention to where it shows and where it disappears). It's there, possibly for everywhere. The switch just needs to be flipped.

I was kinda figuring that only people in the City Experience areas would see anything different. Unfortunately, I don’t do betas.

My friend does though, so I’ll see if he can provide some screenshots of his own.

My friend provided these screenshots. This isn’t CarPlay, but I can tell that the zoom levels on the phone have been adjusted on the new beta. Perhaps related.

Also, what is up with the wavy route line? Does Maps want me changing lanes like a drunkard? lol

I had a “first” with Apple Maps. I have always had the setting turned on for follow up by email for feedback if they need more info, but I have never been contacted for more info.

I was recently. The email came directly from the Maps Team looking for more information. It ended up being a couple back and forth emails where I provided addresses and business hours. They were very quick to respond and by the end of it, all of the additions were on the map. I’ve never been directly contacted by the Maps Team before and it was very surprising that it was an email conversation that spanned a few days of back and forth! Very impressed!

Got some more off-the-phone videos! First up, is another Uber ride to work. Similar routing, but we start off different. And then the Uber driver, who was navigating using Waze, took an exit I wasn't expecting to go around some traffic. These videos were taken after the update to iOS 15.1. As before, the sound is turned off, so as not to disturb people around me.

To work, Part 1

To work, Part 2

Next up, is four videos of a bus ride home. I was slightly annoyed, because when I first set the route towards my neighborhood, Apple Maps gave me the exact route that the bus takes. But then after coming over the Queensboro Bridge, Maps lost my GPS position briefly, which caused the route to recalculate, and then it gave me a completely different route. So you'll see my bus ignoring my directions (lol) and just continuing straight up Northern Boulevard a few times. Then I pass by Citi Field entering Flushing.

Central Park to the Queensboro Bridge

Over the Queensboro Bridge into Queens

Navigating up Northern Boulevard while ignoring turns

Passing by Citi Field

I've noticed that current Maps is very inconsistent in *when* on highways it decides to zoom out to show all of the traffic ahead. Sometimes it doesn't.

I'm so bored with CarPlay right now. The unplug/plug back in glitch to change the font size isn't working like it used to. And the camera angles and zooms are still inconsistent from trip to trip. I'm sure this is all related to the testing behind the scenes. I can already tell that the positioning of my car-arrow on the screen is slightly off the road, likely correlating with the City Experience map data that we can't see in CarPlay yet.

Wish iOS 15.2 would release already. I need something to sink my teeth into.

Just went for a quick trip after downloading the latest 15.2 beta and I swear CarPlay was different. Very smooth…3D buildings the entire time…or maybe not… ;)

CarPlay maps in 15.2 beta 2 is definitely improved again.
New (weird) Siri icon for voice search
Turns list on the phone completely redesigned and much better. Shows the turns as they will show on the turn panel in CarPlay. Distance to next turn finally changes as you drive. And new End Route button
