CarPlay maps in 15.2 beta 2 is definitely improved again.
New (weird) Siri icon for voice search
Turns list on the phone completely redesigned and much better. Shows the turns as they will show on the turn panel in CarPlay. Distance to next turn finally changes as you drive. And new End Route button

One thing I noticed that I THINK is new…zoom level while at a stop light pulls back out to show the whole route.

When I was at one last night it kept going in and out like a heart beat. Hah. I think they’re still fine tuning.

I noticed the Siri voice search button as well….I thought it was trying to connect me to “Meta”…

Just went for a quick trip after downloading the latest 15.2 beta and I swear CarPlay was different. Very smooth…3D buildings the entire time…or maybe not… ;)
Comparing my drive to work yesterday (pre beta 2) to my drive home (after beta 2)...definitely agree here (except for 3D buildings the entire time...I had noticed I was having them even on beta 1, primarily over the last week or so).

The smoothness was definitely noticeable and the behavior of the movement seemed different on top of that. Since they're still claiming "later this year" for the CarPlay stuff, I wonder if each beta is incrementally moving towards that instead of just throwing it all in at once. I wonder what the next one will bring! One of the things I noticed on the, I'll call it camera behavior, is that it seemed more zoomed in than usual in pretty much every scenario except for long straightaways.

I'm hoping that whatever new programming they put into CarPlay for this update will allow cars with the largest screens to take better advantage of the extra real estate.

Not seeing any mention of WHEN in here, but Washington, DC is next in line for “super detail”. (link below). It takes a bit of scrolling, but there’s a preview in there!

Hope the DC detail comes out later today. It’s been a little bit of a gap since the last city.

CarPlay continues to surprise me. I’m still on normal iOS 15.1. Today on my drive home, I had buildings the entire way on I-278. But no buildings while on the Grand Central Parkway. So bizarre.

Look around for DC now extends even further out into the suburbs than it did before. Also the old look around imagery is updated to this year.

We finally need offline support like Google Maps. Everytime I travel I need to download Google maps. It‘s not only about the roaming costs it may also be that there isn‘t any coverage like in the desert.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention yesterday. For the cities (and their suburbs) that have City Experience, the exact boundaries of the City Experience again seem to correlate with the current Look Around boundaries for that area. Seems to be the same for San Diego.

So you can activate the Look Around blue lines, and zoom out, and get a pretty good idea of how far out the City Experience data can be viewed.

Has anyone had any success with hard resetting to get the new Australia update? I've got 5 devices and try and do each device at least 3 times a day. I understand it's random but just want to check if anyone has actually managed to do it with the new update.

Nope…but unlike Italy which was opened to all beta testers around the world at one point, Australia seems to be limited to people living there.

* Must live in Australia (Australian cell data or I.p. Address)
* Must be on latest version of iOS 15
* Completely random…

I did confirm yesterday that latest CarPlay update tied to iOS 15 beta does indeed show more buildings.

It always bothered me that the circled road would show buildings when you are on the portion to the North of Cascade road but not South of it.

You can see in the circled areas below that the “weight” of the road actually changes from thicker to the North to thinner South of Cascade. I’m not exactly sure why it does this, but guessing the State or County assigns that even though both sections are mostly residential with some commercial mixed in near Cascade road and both seem to get pretty much the same amount of traffic (but maybe not initially designed to be that way).

As of the latest update (15.2, beta 2), I get 3D buildings on the South portion now…I get them everywhere now and I didn’t before.

Driving South on the thinner section of road now.

It really is nice to see all of the detail now. Can’t wait until more comes like road markings and crosswalks in my area.

Prior to iOS 15, the camera angle was determined by the so-called "weight" of the road. But all angles on local roads showed buildings all the time.

It's hard for me to judge what the camera is *supposed* to be doing on iOS 15 CarPlay, because I'm not on the beta, and the public releases have been going crazy with changes as Apple works in the background on the 15.2 update for CarPlay. I'll have to wait and see.

By Moz's screenshot, it looks like 15.2 gets rid of the vertical line glitch on the right side of the screen. Unless I was the only person seeing that....

Can confirm that the last point really does apply too. I’m on iOS 15.2 beta and both iPad & iPhone are not showing new maps. I’m excited for new maps to arrive though!
