I'm so tired of these threads my GODDDDDDD.

No, Apple does not "need to admit they're wrong" because you prefer one popular feature to another.

For example, my thumbprint is super faint and my hands are sweaty. (As the great Lady Gaga once crooned, I was born this way.) Touch ID worked far less than Face ID does for me. With a mask, it's about equivalent.

Imagine I came on here and wrote a whole-ass thread saying "APPLE NEEDS TO ADMIT THEY'RE WRONG ABOUT TOUCH ID" because it didn't work in my specific use case, while it did for literal hundreds of millions of other people.

Now that would just be RIDICULOUS, wouldn't it?

(Answer: yes.)

I don't want TID, it's useless in summer here and we are/have always been mask free where i live. AU. FID never fails me on my 11 pro now 12, but my iPad 11" is not as good especially in dark, probably as it doesn't get held as close.

As much as I like my new 12 PM, the inability to unlock off a flat surface at any angle/distance is absolute trash. Touch ID on the screen is coming next year and I'm assuming that will remedy this clear flaw.

It takes courage to admit a mistake. Face ID was a mistake. The notch is not going away any time soon because of it.

Face ID is worse than in screen Finger print reader. You don’t save any time because you still have to swipe the screen up in order to reach your Home Screen.

also there is the fact that with face masks, Face ID doesn’t even work so you have to enter your passcode. Horrible.
No way, Face ID much better

Mine does eventually but it’s a good 10-15 seconds of frustrated swiping before the solid line comes up at the bottom of the screen to indicate the device is fully unlocked. In this instance, it’s much slower than TouchID. This is my first FaceID phone and I’ve been reading for years now how much better it is on here. I’m yet to be convinced. It perfect lighting it’s quick and easy.

One other annoyance is when the phone is flat on my desk and you have to pick it up because it can’t detect your face at an angle. The days of subtly checking a notification in meetings appear to be over lol.

Honestly, it sounds like one of two things to me. You either have a faulty system. Or you're not swiping in the right spot (I reach way below the line; my thumb is basically resting on the case when I start swiping up). What you're describing doesn't even sound close to normal.

The desk thing is what it is. If you're used to doing that, you won't be able to now. There are tradeoffs with either system and this is one of them.

It sounds like you've tried it for a couple weeks and don't like it. Fair enough. I hope you figure out why your experience is so much different than pretty much everyone else and get to experience what the rest of us do. But at the end of the day, either you like it or you don't and your opinion is the only one that matters. Still, something sounds very wrong with what you've described and you should look further into it instead of just being frustrated by it.

I hate people bringing this up when comparing Face ID and Touch ID. Yes, Touch ID works better in todays world, but Apple couldn't have prepared for this happening back in 2017 when they originally introduced Face ID.

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just a couple of the trade offs are a little frustrating. I said in my previous posts I haven’t got a faulty device, my wife’s iPhone does exactly the same thing and when I mentioned it to work colleagues they agreed it can be annoying for them too. That suggests to me it’s just one of those things with this technology. If you’re saying my experience is different to ‘everyone’ else then I’ve already discovered that is not the case.

FaceID is good most of the time and in well lit conditions I’ve found. I’ve been reading for a few years here how much better it is and people say how they could never go back to TouchID. I haven’t seen this superiority yet and find its how I’ve always thought, just a slightly different method of opening and authorising apps on the phone. FaceID seems to be quicker when in apps like banking when it needs authorisation but in all honesty if it’s quicker, it’s tenths of a second. Opening the device is about the same normally as a button touch is replaced by a swipe up, it’s not reinventing the wheel really.

I have FaceID now and have to get used to it, there is no other option at this stage and I hope updates improve my issue. The desk thing is what it is I know. I hope the power button TouchID comes to iPhone in future as in my view will be better than either option right now.

Not a mistake. I like face ID over touch ID but it would be nice to have both someday. This is my opinion, it was not a mistake. Addition apple and the rest of us on this planet had no idea that we would have a pandemic where we have to wear a mask.

I dislike touch ID, I prefer the face ID. My husband's new iPhone SE (2020) has touch ID and I think it's a pain! I agree the masks make face id more difficult but I just drop my mask a second and put it back up.

disagree. Face ID is is exceptionally better, at least for for. I don’t even notice it’s there. It’s so much faster and much more reliable than Touch ID ever was.

I hated the thought of having an iPhone with Face ID.
Then I received my iPad Pro 11 and now I'm totally in love with Face ID. It's exceptionally fast, indeed much faster than me?
Now waiting for the iPhone 12 Pro arriving in December.

If having Touch ID means having a giant chin again no thanks. I prefer more screen real estate.
If Apple would put the fingerprint reader on the back that would be nice.

Um, no. For me, Face ID is so much better that it’s not even close. It’s fine to prefer one over the other, but since I’m sure I’m not the only person who loves Face ID, and Face ID iPhones and iPads have been selling like crazy for three years now, I don’t think Apple has anything to “admit”.

‘Exceptionally better’? That’s quite a statement and I’d be interested in some examples of this.

It’s works more consistently, especially for people with oily hands. This is key. It is also faster and requires less user action. It allows attention features and hiding notifications while you’re not looking at your phone.

I like the hiding notifications feature but I haven’t found FaceID particularly quicker. I tested my iPhone 12 against my iPhone 8 Plus when I first go the phone and unlocking both phones from idle the 8 Plus was fractionally quicker. This is probably because there is more user interaction in terms of swiping upwards rather than touching a button. FaceID is quicker in apps for authorising but in each of these cases it’s fractional. For me most of the time I could argue both are as quick as each other.

I’ve got quite dry hands, probably because I live in a cold country and early had issues with TouchID. I do like the extra screen FaceID brings however so both for me have their pro’s and cons.

I believe FaceID is definitely superior in every way minus a few situations. The anomaly that was the pandemic I believe has people beginning to doubt FaceID, even tho I don’t believe that would be fair.
