so what's our new date we are looking forward to, since today was another flop ?

Why today is a flop?
The problem is, that too many people trust on rumors. I agree, that we all want to see Apple Pay in Germany/ EU.
But why should bunq accounce AP for a country/ EU?

There are several Banks who want to support AP. In my opinion Germany is a good market for mobile payment. Most of the people are still using cash. The NFC infratructure rised to a high level within the last 2 years. Maybe we are going the further step from cash to mobile payment.

The banks like Sparkasse und Volksbank will start to rollout their mobile payment system in mid 2018. A rollout together with Apple Pay would make sense. Does somebody know about the "CDCVM" method of their "Insellösungen". Some weeks ago i saw, that they still want to enter the PIN on the POS.

My bet:

announcement on WWDC. Rollout together with Sparkasse and Volksbank. "smaller" Banks like N26, DKB, ING-Diba will also there at the beginning.

Apple Pay won't need a PIN no matter how much you have to pay...
that's not all correct, if you read the Apple Pay documentation ;) some POS-terminals want a PIN and Apple's advice is to enter "0000" :D

and I thought, the realtibu meant Volksbanken/Sparkassen with his question.

Apples advise is to enter 0000 for the Apple Pay Cash card (which has no PIN). Otherwise you have to enter the PIN of the physical card.

you are right docfred.

I saw a thread, that the Sparkasse still want a PIN at the POS when you are paying contactless.
Apple solves the Problem, that they are using FaceID/Touch ID to make they payment secure.

But the Banks wont have access on the NFC Modul if they are not entering Apple Pay

Not "Sparkasse still wants" ...

Oh, didn't know that. Wow. Paying with your smartphone and enter the PIN of your physical card. How "natural" or modern :D

Sorry docfred, i did not explain it with much detail:
When im using my IPhone with AP to buy something >25€ i dont have to type in my PIN at the POS.
The payment is approved by TouchID. It doesnt matter if the purchase value it lower or higher 25€. No Pin is needed

Yeah, I know that. But that you have to enter your PIN by paying fees above 25€ with your nfc-card is no "wish" of Sparkasse or Volksbank or .... as you wrote. it's industry standard for the physical cards for security reasons. otherwise it would be possible to withdraw bigger amounts just by walking by at the subways or in the city. it's sort of a compromise between simplicity and security.

It’ll be interesting to see if Apple Pay will work with all bunq users. Ali did use his account and simply change region to Spain and made Apple Pay work with what it looks like his NL account and cards. Maybe they are going the same route as boon. on this.

they are giving advice how to change the region. so they started Apple Pay in Italy & Spain, but users in Germany/Netherlands can use the bunq card when changing the region and adding the cards...

pitty, its just for users with premium accounts...

Well if you are already customer of bunq and using it on a regular basis with premium it would be nice if Apple Pay works. As of right now it looks like it will.

„When changing the region on your phone, please note Apple Pay is not officially available in The Netherlands or Germany yet.“

jep. but it also seems they have dropped their free account and the premium is €7.99 per month

they are advertising Apple Pay even on the German page...

The way they have worded it on their help pages is so obvious asking users to use the workaround, it's actually quite surprising. Apple must be aware that there is plenty of demand from users around Europe to get access to Apple Pay that they just allow this. Apple gets a cut of the transaction fees and the banks are happy too... Boon support apparently once suggested Apple was aware of lots of German users getting a French boon card to gain Apple Pay.

Free account dropped already back in 2016 November I think. But 7.99 for all the stuff you get with bunq if you ask my totally worth it. Didn’t use it though for since I’m into N26 but I’m consodering to switch back.

as I remember correctly, the free account didn't include a payment card.

Also FinTechs have to earn money ;) either by analyzing their customers and selling the data or by charging monthly fees for their services. Will be interesting what business case N26 has. At the moment, they don't earn any cent at the moment but live by raising new capital.

well then - was a funny time. more waiting on apple to decide to release Apple Pay for Germany... sad but true, thats what we kinda thought...

but still strange that they are actively promoting this workaround to get Apple Pay working for their customers... and tbh. I think they were in contact with apple to get Apple Pay supported directly without a workaround... and this means, we will have to wait even longer than we thought. cause if Apple Pay would be around the corner being released next quarter, bunq wouldn't have promoted that workaround... would have waited a couple of months...

That's a too much interpretation and speculation for me. They know, that their support will be bombed by customers asking when and how and.... so to lower the number of service contacts, they give the answers right away from the start. without any connection to a possible Apple Pay start in NL or Germany.

Does someone here have a bunq card (preferably a Dutch/German one) and could try to add it? Would be quite interesting to see...

well that could be an interpretation too. at least they are ready to go when apple starts Apple Pay somewhere else... no need for changing the region to setup the card.
