Apple Pay comes to Germany together with Apple AirPower :D

Well, if it must be postponed, Apple would never talk about it. Transparency is not part of their company language.

Well, honestly: Some more countries were to be expected. It doesn't really make sense: Saudi Arabia is to go live soon and it never got announced. That's a first, ever.

Possibly Apple has decided to even stop announcing Apple Pay launches, as to stop the disappointment when it doesn't go well (as in Germany).
What exactly didn't go well? Ap is announced for later this year. A rumored launch in October was never officially confirmed by anyone. That was just our hope/fantasy.

This forum is just getting more and more tiring. I think I will exit this discussion.

Well, it could be the first start, that was announced at an earnings call and did not happen until the next one.

And there are only two weeks left this year in which apple would launch new services.

They are just trying to double down on secrecy and be more unpredictable just as Tim once said :D

No, it was (sort of) confirmed and was in line with all other launches. It seems that either a) some things have gone wrong (on the side of the banks or a regulatory nature) or b) Apple is still sorting out further contracts behind the scenes.

As we've discussed many times and seen through the ever expanding list of banks: Apple seems to have taken on the challenge in Germany by trying to force the big banks to join, even after announcing it. That strategy seems to have worked, as the signs are now that banks such as ING, Sparkasse or Volksbanken are now seriously considering taking part. Some holdouts at first (Comdirect/Commerzbank) are now also preparing a launch in the background. They weren't part of the first batch, which already shows us there were ongoing negotiations after Apple announced Apple Pay was coming to Germany.

This is all based on stuff we know - or publicly available information from sources we / I trust. And it all makes sense.

What did I say? :)

Apple‘s social media team probably checks twitter and they got the tweets about Apple Pay and how everyone’s starting to expect an exact date for a launch so they’ve decided not to announce any of the new ones but to just let them be a surprise ;)

And also, Rudolf Linsenbarth Said on Twitter that the launch has been postponed to mid November because of some technical issues at one of the banks. And i find him to be credible since he was saying comdirect and Commerzbank will be launch partners ever since AP got announced.

Ok, its all my fault. My iPhone is in repair and my new watch is delivered next week. So Tim postponed the launch until I have my stuff back up working.

Going to give him a call when my gear is setup. Then he’ll push the button

Im sorry

Yup, I think he’s right *knock on wood*. He didn’t say it’ll be mid November but that it’s the last possibility for a launch this year, meaning it could be launched next week but no later than Thursday, the week after next one.

Not sure where people or RL were getting this from? There has been a launch in December before. Why would this year have different conditions?

Okay, I’ll say first week of December.
iirc first week of December is already frozen zone for services launches or changes.

There has been? Hmm. Thought this is already locked time.

Thanks

He's got a good track record. I trust what he says. BTW he was the guy who very accurately predicted the GPay launch incl. some of the banks.

Next week or week after next. If it still hasn't launched... damn, I'll need to go and seek help. I might not be able to cope with the strain...

Same as @sir-hd said, he’s got a good track record and by what the has said before, you could very well notice that he’s in contact with someone from Commerzbank/comdirect as all the Infos seem to come from that persepctive.
That’s why I trust him and don’t think he’s a poser wanting attention, after all he’s not even an iOS user himself.

Btw, here’s a tweet to think about from a VR guy: https://twitter.com/masu78/status/1058111688531173377?s=21

I would not give mich about tweets of bankers of vb and big s. The got no idea about an AP launch. Just talked to a red guy, who is managing the card payment for a mid sized sparkasse. He does not know if a launch is close or not. Even that employees are considering to open an other‘s bank account

Its the same story evers couple of weeks

That's logical. People sitting in the local Sparkassen don't know what's going on. All that is delegated to the DSGV and S-Payment. Back in April I was in contact with someone and - in case anyone remembers - I told you about talk I had been to. The Android app launch date and that Apple Pay wasn't launching (at that time we all thought the Sparkassen might even have an exclusive agreement, it would launch soon and were pretending to be uninterested) were two key things I was able to find out. They (S-Payment) do the deals and lead the talks, then via DSGV recommend the Sparkassen follow and they have the final say if they participate or not. It seems as though it never even reached that stage. My local Sparkasse keeps telling me they would like to offer Apple Pay, but don't know when or if it is at all possible. They're powerless in that sense (especially the small ones).

Seems like Apple is not gonna announce sales numbers in the future anymore. So this falls in line with not announcing any new Apple Pay countries I think. Sounds like they just want to reduce the amount of information going around. I am pretty sure we will see a couple of other countries getting Apple Pay in the near future and Germany shouldn’t be too far away from now.

Well, we know Saudi Arabia will be launching very soon. They even have their own launch page... all seems very inconsistent this year
