Well, if they only would check the NFC-Chip, why don´t they name the system-point "NFC" with the logo of it?

The system-point named "Apple Pay" with the logo of Apple Pay.
Because back then the NFC Chip was only used for Apple Pay. And Apple never referred to the technology as NFC, but always as Apple Pay.
The diagnostic tool / software is designed in a way so the visitor at the Genius Bar can look over the shoulder of the Genius/Family Room Specialist/Technical Specialist. It would only be confusing for the visitor to see NFC-Chip there instead of Apple Pay. Because the iPhone user, up until iOS 11, only used NFC for Apple Pay...

Looks like there are some more N26 customers that got locked out:

There are rumors going around that a Russian hacker stole dozens of databases with all kinds of user informations and logins. And they seem to be selling those informations via the darknet in exchange for bitcoin.

I saw some screenshots etc. don’t know how trustworthy these rumors are but if this is true well I guess we should all think about leaving N26 for good.

Just tested my account, it’s ok. But i nearly never used it, so don’t know where the data should have gone lost except for N26 themselves. As every shop, bank, really everything has a different password a General hack with one account would anyhow not lead to success. But there are enough people that use one password for all

Definitely great from your bank, that they lock your account without any information or telephone number to call ... and several days later there is a lame „oh well ... besides if you haven’t noticed, we locked your bank account. Call us. Erm. If you like. So. Bye ... but remember, we are total cool. Cu.“ E-Mail :D

You are repeating yourself.

This is going round in circles. Dubious accounts on Twitter that keep reposting old information. Der Standard (a large credible Austrian newspaper) has been in contact with N26 and the debunked the whole thing. Seems like someone wants to damage N26's image.

Besides, stolen accounts and identities have been offered since forever on the dark net. People do not seem to realize that this is not singular to one company. Most stolen identities and accounts are derived from phishing, which really puts the user at fault (who of course could never fathom any wrongdoing on their part). I've seen this a lot regarding trading platforms, where phished users unsuccessfully blamed the exchange for "stolen" funds.

It seems a lot more likely that these accounts are nothing special, just set up with fake IDs (see the KYC investigation) or simply acquired by phishing the DAUs. I've stated my observations on the majority of banking (N26) customers before

Small off-topic. Today I have noticed both on Mac and on iPhone, safari suggests News by Apple, however, I do not have News application, region is set Germany. Was it before ?

Okay I found a nice Twitter thread about Belgium that hasn't been posted (I think)
https://twitter.com/DriesOeyen/status/1056095125032570880
1) A Reddit poster said that someone paid in an Apple Store with a BNP Paribas card.
2) The BNP Paribas app and their subsidiaries (Hello Bank!, etc) have Wallet support in the App Store but as far as I know you can't add or do anything with it it's also missing for all other banks...
3) Some people can see the Terms & Conditions page (in French, no Dutch it seems)
4) De Tijd article says that Apple Pay is coming soon
5) A blogpost by (What's Next) that's written by the Digital Coordinator from BNP hints that's support is coming

Depends on how you are behaving and what you are doing. And at least at the activation of a new number for smsTAN, they had to do something.

Funny is the complain about „why did the bank not notice anything“. If banks scan and analyze every transaction, they call it a threat to privacy. If banks don’t care about what you are doing, it’s their fault if you lose money.

This case has a certain smell... a funny taste.

BTW: that’s why we are using chipTAN. Not so comfortable but most secure way on the market beside HBCI.

Theoretically they should be able to get there money back. But this will surely end in court because bank will very likely not repay the money. A few weeks back there was a similar case with Sparda Bank where a old woman lost 200.000 euros because of online banking she never even applied for. The bank of course said no we won’t give you back your money it’s all your fault but luckily court gave the woman right.

Did someone wonder, why so many people don’t like online banking? ;)

Well what good is it if people don’t use online banking because they don’t trust it if the banks have a safety issue and just give out access to criminals ...

Online banking is in my opinion safer then „offline banking“. Paper transactions can be faked as well. Even easier and with less effort than gaining online access for someone’s bank account right?

Of course people - customers and banks - need to take precautions in order to keep fraud from happening.

It’s like with cash vs card payments what’s safer? If someone steals your wallet with 500 € in it good luck getting those back. On the other hand if you only have a bank card in your wallet you can lock the card and get your money back. But if you are stupid enough to keep your pin and card in wallet well then ...

Don’t think one is safer over the other. Neither in the case of online/offline banking nor in the cash/card Department.

That's something, that I really doubt, if I consider the major hurdles that you have to take to get online access to an account. there is always an active part of the account holder. but ok.

Online banking is in my opinion safer then „offline banking“.
I'm with you. I'm using online banking since the mid 90s (via btx/datex-j back then)

But news like this let people consider to remain "offline"

Maybe we can come back to the main topic of this thread.
why? nothing new ;)
