Well easy to find out. Can we confirm that e.g. Belgium hat similar opening hours for their launch?
I daut that.

Btw regarding training, the only thing I can think of is that they get trained to explain the customer HOW apple pay actually
Works, not in a technical way as it’s pretty simple.

Sindelfingen closing 1hr earlier as well. Most certainly no connection to Apple Pay though and - even if - a pure coincidence.

Probably rearranging the store for the festive period... lots of money to be made!

As far as I can remember Apple stores always close an hour earlier on the first Monday after the first advent Sunday. So this has nothing to do with AP whatsoever. But luckily we only have 29 more days to go.

Good Morning.....
New week, new hope.
No Apple Pay at the moment. After all, it is also Monday. Poor insiders who predicted again today.:D

Whoops, unintentional post.

While I am at it though - why is everyone paying attention to banking app updates?
During my time in the UK, the HSBC app never had any Apple Pay related features built in - cards were added manually via the Wallet app and authentication happened via SMS/Email.

It depends on the bank. N26, bunq, and others will allow adding cards through the App.
Deutsche Bank features both. All of these have the feature built-in already, so it makes no sense to wait for an update.
comdirect I expect to not feature adding the card through the app and doing it only through Wallet instead.

All subject to change.

Most banks don’t offer adding the card directly through the app. I think it’s due to Apple offering this possibility later down the line and new launches adapting to this. UK was early on and thus this option wasn’t around then. The first bank to offer this in the UK was Starling. I can say at least for my accounts with HSBC, Nationwide, Lloyds and Metro Bank cards need to be added through Wallet.

For the launch in Belgium Apple has once again changed the interface: there Wallet offers select banks when opening the Wallet app - different once again.

The reason why this option was propelled was due to Maestro and VPay (and other payment networks around the world) that don’t offer readable card numbers or internal PANs that the user can’t see/know. This required app integration through the bank. That problem doesn’t exist in the UK either - here (in the UK) it’s more about convenience.

How does this work for adding a card on the iPad or Mac, where no app exists?

If you’re lucky to know your Maestro number, you might be able to add the card manually (as bunq provides the number). But as online payment isn’t supported by the banks (as of today it theoretically is in the newest macOS/iOS version), you can’t add those cards to devices without an NFC chip. There would be no point if the card isn’t enabled for online payments. VPay never is, maestro only very seldomly.

As far as I know there is no way to see the maestro card number for bunq. At least in my app I can’t find it. Only the digital Apple Pay maestro shows the number but the physical cards don’t. Or am I missing something here?

It will show up once your card is Apple Pay enabled. My "Italian" card shows the number in the card overview. :D
