Are we still talking about ApplePay or are we having a discussion about nationalism? I think with more new banks like N26 it will not be too long before it will be available in Germany.

Some User in the commands about the 9to5mac article about WWDC posted a screenshot from ING-DiBA about Apple Pay in Romania:

Translation:
greeting!

Apple Pay will also be available soon! We will announce on our page as soon as the service is active.

The Post is still available on their facebook page:

Unfortunately, it was later corrected that ING was talking about Android Pay :(

Maybe we can change this topic to "European countries without Apple Pay" instead of only Germany ;)

It was the other way around, they corrected themselves that they were talking about Android Pay (probably a employee that did not read the NDA said too much), and somebody said that "We are waiting for Apple pay, too !", and ING replied with "Apple Pay option will be available very soon too !"

Germany is the much, much, much bigger market and the 50% cashless payments (volume) in retail stores would be a multitude of the whole ukrainian market.

I think Apple will go for availabilty of mobile payments and if people want to use it. And thats the problem with Germanny. They just pay a lot of with cash.

The Netherlands may be a small country with a lot less customers then Germany. But the use of a Maestro card is huge. You can literally pay everything with your (debit)card and leave cash money at home. If I go to Germany I always have to remind myself to bring some cash money with me.
In 2017, a total of 150 billion euros was paid with a Meastro card, 3,9 billion tranactions. Of those, 50% where contactless.

In the Netherlands especially for entertainment like Netflix and Spotify the creditcard used more often. The number of online payments with iDeal and credit cards increased by almost a third to 455 million. Turnover in the travel sector, particularly for hotels, rose by 8.5 percent last year.

1) Why should German people pay Spotify or Netflix with CreditCard if both companies support ELV, which is prefered by most people (and much cheaper for the companies themselves)? Don't see the connection to Apple Pay
2) The right chart shows, that Italy must be the more unattractive market than Germany, though they started there quite a while ago

Analysts.... well. crystal ball readers ;)

There are quite a few reasons to pay with a credit card instead of ELV.

Don't get me wrong, I'm paying most of my stuff with my Amex. But why should my sister get a CC if she can pay anything with GiroCard on retailers or with ELV online? Where is the advantage to pay Netflix with CreditCard?

Hotels is another story, because they sometimes give you some extras if they have a special contract with Visa, Amex or MasterCard. But all day stuff? No reason for the majority of people.

That's about te Dutch market.
yeah, but where is the point? what has this to do with Apple Pay?

It will be interesting to see if Apple gives devs access to NFC for loyalty cards and ticket entrance (theme parks etc.). The Tesco Clubcard I have now has contactless which you tap on the payment terminal whilst paying and all points are automatically added. Such as system would be great for Payback (a) owned by Amex and b) one of the largest systems of its kind in Europe) and to expand the functionality... we'll see.

I think Apple will only work with some partners to open it up like Audi or other car brands and stuff like lock makers and so on idk.
I dont think they will open it up to everything.

State of the Union and the Apple Pay "subkeynote" will be interesting. Not even a word on Apple News expanding to more countries... very sad indeed.

It‘s a deeper look in what‘s going on in iOS and macOS. Deeper than the few minutes and some highlights on the keynote.

Some sort of more detailed presentation.
