The screen capture video he replied with looks like it has been cut/edited before he „enters“ the regions settings page, there is no animation / transition visible. Cut have recorded before and after switching regions...

Wich video?

BTW: I tried setting the region to Ireland on my MacBook, after restart of System Preferences I had Setting for Apple Pay & Wallet. Tried my German Visa card, but got same error like you get on iPhone. Set the region back to Germany, without restarting System Preferences, so button for Apple Pay stays, but when opening it you get error message... that something has gone wrong... after restarting system preferences, Apple Pay button is gone...

Calm down and get back to the topic and the question, what's about the numbers for Germany in the quoted artikel and the BCG study. The comparison between Japan and Germany in this graphic.

Man, the choice of your words is enough to "know". You can't select the numbers and facts you want and ignore the rest if they do not match with your opinion. There is a claim and quoted articles are in conflict with them. This is something to solve, if the theory should be correct in any way.

If you want do discuss, watch your wording and your aggression level. And don't override something over again. I am a little bit in a "discussion mood" myself and I want to apologize for some sentences yesterday.

If the Commerzbank/Comdirect is ok with riding along with US tech giants and profiting from "first mover" marketing, then it will make it interesting in the future to include Apple Pay. Other banks such as ING DiBa or DKB still haven't given any details yet of what they will be doing in the way of mobile payment. I wrote to ING DiBa but they gave me a non-answer. But: They surely won't want to be left behind...

Some weeks ago I asked about using Apple Pay in Germany while on a short vacation.

Just back and…Wow! It works. Very well. :)
Of course there is the slight inconvenience still of many, many shops and other locations not accepting anything except cash.

But if I spotted a card terminal I just asked, "Es ist kontaktlos?" and paid by iPhone.

Lots of rubber necking by other shoppers in the queue behind me, and most assistants definitely did a bit of a double take when I whipped out my phone. Obviously wondering what the hell is this Englander going to do. Make a phone call? ;)

Fingers crossed it is rolled out officially soon.

The DKB Social Media Team most certainly have no information on a potential Apple Pay launch and they even refer to forums like this one... So nothing new to see here. The Wallet logo in the App Store can be a sign (if the addition of cards only happens through the banks app), but many banks who do support Apple Pay don't have the Wallet sign (as the adding of cards is processed directly through the Wallet app by scanning your card). So you can't be sure either way. In other countries you can usually say that the larger the bank, the more probable it is that the card is added the more "traditional" way through scanning a physical card. On the other hand, Maestro cards and with a potential Girocard support, that would most certainly need to be done through the banks app as there isn't sufficient information on the card to process the card information in Wallet.

And even if Apple would open NFC, they would try it with their own apps, which would make it more complicated I believe. You might have to open the app to pay etc.
Apple Pay is nicely integrated into the devices. I doubt for example that with their own apps they would support Apple Watch.
And to be ones, that is 99% the device I use to pay, when using ApplePay

German banks would care if the first domino would fall.
They are all happy with the status quo because the customer cannot choose a bank a that supports Apple Pay and leave.
We will never see Apple Pay because they will simply maintain their position of power.
An open NFC Chip from Apple would not change that, it would only mean they could flood the iphone with proprietary Apps.

Mr-fly. I literally posted the above at the same time. I totally agree.
They all want their own broken banking Apps
