Well then I hope for you guys theyll support Apple Pay.
funny thing... even my local bank account + MC Gold + Amex are combined together still cheaper than bunq or N26 :D

no worries, everybody who wants Apple Pay can use Apple Pay. In doubt with boon. So everyone can relax.

btw: no reaction at all to the tweet of the Braunschweiger Landessparkasse?

I've added the tweet to the overview at the beginning of the thread. Sounds promising, but it is contradicted by many other pieces of information by the Sparkasse. Believe me when I say: I would wish nothing more than Sparkasse to be on Apple Pay - and if they must they can drag along that silly Girocard system as well.

I'm with you. That's why I said, nothing is safe or quotable as long as the Sparkassen Finanzgruppe does not take their position. No "yay" and no "nay".

suprisingly that there is not a single official word. if "no" would be a clear decision, they could have pronounced it. same for a "yes, but later".

btw. I am very curious if N26 will give ApplePay in the free account.
As Apple seems to take fees also on a monthly base I could imagine that they only integrate it into the paid versions.
So I would hang out and wait instead of making tons of new bank accounts because of missing Apple Pay.
Maybe at the end, Boon with its 1,49/month is still a very good option if you just want Apple Pay. And additonally Boon had so much specials in the last few months (recently you got 5€ cashback for 3 payments over 20€) that it might be even free from that point.

The only thing that I don't like about the boon solution is, that the credit card bill is full of "boon" positions, without a chance of categorizing your spendings.

Also paying a lot with Amex.

Where did Amex support reply to you? I sent them an email but haven't received a reply yet.
I called them yesterday. So not really quotable or official. But as Amex is supporting Apple Pay in many countries, I don't see a reason, why they should not do it here in Germany.

Support said, it is in their roll out plans but likely not at the launch.

N26 stated on Twitter Apple Pay will be available on all accounts.

We don't know the exact contracts. I assume N26 accepted a higher percentage which they have to pay Apple whereas other banks got a lower one but have to pay a monthly fee. So it is still possible for N26 to offer a free account without losing money.

No, I don't ignore it. But beside the nice app, I don't see advantages in comparison to other direct banks. Just a few drawbacks. Neither a real CreditCard nor a GiroCard (still important for the German market), no services or insurances...

I think, they have their market and their satisfied customers. But I don't see the need for the hype. Especially as they made their Black account more expensive with 10€/month.

fidor seems to be interessting though.

That Fidor would be part of an Apple Pay launch was in the press yesterday. Some, I think Welt and FAZ if I remember correctly, also stated that Santander and Commerzbank will also launch Apple Pay. So: Looks like what we heard yesterday and with Fidor today isn't everything.

An honest question to everyone in this thread: Were you expecting such a wide variety of banks at launch? I was assuming that Apple was struggling to add even a single large retail bank and that having say Deutsche Bank or Commerzbank, boon. and N26 would be enough for them. Look at the last launches in Brazil and Ukraine with just a single bank each or the Nordics with 2-3 banks maximum. It seemed like they're expectations were quite low to kick Apple Pay off.

And then this growing list of very varied banks: This is good news!

I can very well live without the use of a Girocard and I do so for 3 years now. Needed a bit a planing in advance in the beginning but now it’s more then doable.
(Disclaimer: I do have a Girocard with my Consorsbank Account but never use it.)
Combination of Fidor SmartCard Master/Maestro, N26 Master/Maestro and Consorsbank Visa as fallback fits quite well for me.
Info: The Fidor Card is chiped as Credit.

Does Fidor create an entry with Schufa? I keep reading conflicting information

Jupp. Because otherwise it would have made no sense at all to wait two, three years just to start with three or four smaller serivce providers like they did in Switzerland :)
And if you read further: What about the other launches, then? The big surprise was Poland which had all relevant banks aboard from the start. The rest of the launches were... meh.

Switzerland was in my opinion a disaster. And in Brazil they caught the biggest available bank that serves, afaik(!, please correct me), half of the market.

I don't know the polish market, so no opinion.

I hoped for it but had my doubts especially for a few weeks. Since Google managed to start with only a couple of banks I started wondering whether Apple could get a better start.
Plus there were statements from Rudolf Linsenbarth on Twitter that only a few will support from the beginning. Now I am more than convinced he had his information from Commerzbank/Comdirect. They will probably support Apple Pay but aren’t allowed to communicate it yet. Therefore Linsenbarth wasn’t expecting an announcement as early as Tuesday.
The fact that Fidor made it public today rather than yesterday proves that the list of banks which support it from the beginning could very well get longer since there seem to be ongoing negotiations. I expect Commerzbank/Comdirect as well as DKB and Targobank to support Apple Pay. Some of them may support not from the beginning.

Fidor and Schufa? I don’t know for sure.
I do not have one with either my N26 or my Fidor Account. But both are quite old. I’m with Fidor since well before the launch of their SmartCard. And with N26 since Beta.

Oh the Sparkasse again... https://twitter.com/sparkasse/status/1025013079065735169

And I have heard from someone who works at the Sparkasse: APPARENTLY they will not be launching Apple Pay due to the reasons stated many times (ie. free access to the NFC chip + not willing to pay anything for Apple Pay). They will be pushing (also through the regulators) for access to the NFC chip so that sounds like the route some of the banks took in Australia. The main goal: That would give them control over the application and development and not make them subject to whatever plans Apple has for payments. Pathetic. I cannot further verify this information. This guy also isn't at any manager level so also not sure if this sort of information would be known further "down" - very far down from the DSGV head office ;) But it sounds true and fits with the overall stance of the Sparkasse. So take it as you want...

Can't wait for that Apple Pay Germany launch site to go online so that I can then switch accounts accordingly :p

EDIT: Just saw this article -> https://www.heise.de/mac-and-i/meld...effnung-von-iPhone-NFC-gefordert-4128130.html

EDIT 2: Just realised that the Sparkasse seem to now have an "official" and common position, as tweets from the official Sparkasse account and other Sparkassen are now identical, ie. in replies regarding Apple Pay they just write: "Wir konzentrieren uns derzeit auf unsere mobile Payment Lösung, die auch technisch offen für iOS ist. Es liegt an Apple, die entsprechende NFC-Schnittstelle für die Kreditwirtschaft freizugeben, damit alle Kunden diesen technischen Marktstandard in gleicher Weise nutzen können."

Can I also remind you of what Mr Schollmeyer of the DSGV said at DK Info this year? -> https://twitter.com/kig_de/status/1006898125489913862
