They will never ever get access to the NFC chip... and using another bank is no bad 'workaround'. sure boon is a workaround at the moment. but opening a new account with another bank is no workaround. well it is when 'switching banks' is called a workaround...

and i do think they will lose customers on the long run... its more than clear that ppl will open up a new account with another bank and will use both accounts side by side some time. but than ppl will notice that having the Sparkasse account has nothing positive, everything you want/need to do is possible with the new account and they will begin to close the old ones... and they will do more faster when thinking bout fees...

Don’t think, that a big rush of account closes will follow. The number of people who switch because of Apple Pay will be relatively small to not countable.

But they are going to lose the next generation of customers.

I don’t think there are a lot of closes or real switches. I think ppl will go and find additional services. Which may become their primary service after some time. And i don’t think that this will be drown back to the denial of Apple Pay.

So Amex is covered. Great :) acceptance of Amex is rising anyway. They want to open the German market.

Hi,

Any idea about the situation where AMEX supports Apple Pay but the connected bank to the AMEX card does not support Apple Pay, then can we still use Apple Pay as an AMEX card member or not?

As Amex is a stand alone card, it does not matter, at what bank your primary account is. Once in a month, Amex charges its bill. Nothing more.

First post updated: Edenred and Pay Center (Business credit cards) added, links for bunq + Revolut updated.

All-in-all the new banks for today with definite confirmations are: American Express, Fidor Bank, Edenred, Pay Center, Revolut and bunq. Not too bad! Let's see if we get further confirmations tomorrow :D

What is going on in good old Cash-Germany? The announcement was only 2 days ago.

And I guess we have some more months to wait.

So will this be the biggest Apple Pay launch in history?? :D

I don´t get it. Apple could easily have startet with half of the confirmed banks 2 years ago!

I read an article before (in one of the large papers - either Welt / FAZ / SZ / ...) and I can't find it anymore!

Yet in it they stated that both Commerzbank and Comdirect want to be there right from the start (which the Handelsblatt reported about on day one). Yet, as they haven't finalised the deal with Apple they aren't allowed to use this standard "later this year" phrase and confirm their participation. Can only be a matter of days or couple of weeks maximum. So I think it's a safe bet to say they'll be launch partners as well.

Your link https://www.apple.com/de/apple-pay/

No, it's correct! It just hasn't launched yet... the link is there for people to keep checking - as once Apple Pay goes live (or just before), that page will go online (ie. https://www.apple.com/uk/apple-pay/ or https://www.apple.com/fr/apple-pay/). ;)

EDIT: Just out of interest, has anyone tried adding any cards of those banks names so far? Is anyone going to try it every once in a while and let us know if anything changes regarding the setup in Wallet?

I've tried it with two Deutsche Bank credit cards and Amex. Obviously it doesn't work yet. However, I will continue to give it a try once in a while.

To activate Apple Pay in Germany, Apple will have to change this file to include "DE": https://smp-device-content.apple.com/static/region/v2/config.json

Also another thing I haven't read about: Which retail and online partners is Apple working with? I could imagine that Aldi / Rewe / Lidl / Kaufland are the usual suspects, possibly MediaMarkt. A few official launch partners could also include Deutsche Bahn, FlixBus and Zalando (they already support Apple Pay if it's set up) and then airlines like Lufthansa/Eurowings, EasyJet (already supported). But that's all a guess. Will be interesting to see. Banks are not the whole story when it comes down to a launch.

Don't know which they want to put on start page, but these are stores I used so far:
Aldi, Lidl, Rewe, Edeka, Tegut, Toom, Shell, Total, Burger King, MCDonalds, Ditsch, Selecta Automaten, Rossmann, DM, Lokaler Asiate, Baumarkt, Lokales Kaufhaus, Ikea

I have written a small script which checks that file via cronjob and sends me a message when a new region is added... Running each 30 minutes...

And trying to add any card gives an error that Apple Pay is not correctly configured for the region.
I do see the button because of Boon. My corporate iPhone does not even have the button to add a card.

Yes, they probably gonna list 'Lokaler Asiate' on their page

I believe so, because that one is great! Especially as they always try to grab my card when I want to pay
(Copied it from a twitter post I made to someone complaining that there are no stores, where someone can pay with ApplePay)
