Correct, it will start and then it’s started ;-)

Maybe some banks will have some press releases, but Apple won’t talk about it

I don't know why some people here speculate on another announcement? Apple Pay HAS been announced, why should they announce it again. It will just be started like the iOS updates after the event. Or did you ever see a morning announcement on Tuesday mornings that they will now start the updates?
There is usually a press release. My purely logical deduction leads me to the conclusion, that week 2 or 3 in October are the only plausible launch weeks for that reason. Next week is unlikely for many reasons. Late October this year doesn't seem suitable due to the iP XR launch, but if Apple Pay is delayed and is part of iOS 12.1, they might mention it on a possible October keynote. It has happened before on the March or October keynotes (and don't forget: the launch in one of their largest European markets - Germany - is still quite a big thing. Especially if we do get a surprise debit card support... that side of things still isn't very clear. Ie.: Will the banks support the Girocard co-badges on Apple Pay? I still can't imagine it will be MC/VISA only).

I mean it doesnt really matter anyway. If it will start next week or 1-2 weeks after that...

A Keynote release would be plausible imo because like sir-hd said, Germany is a big market and they like to announce changing the industry. I can already hear them say "90% of payments in Germany are with cash and now well change that" or something. :)

Bundesbank reports that by the end of 2017 74% of all payments were made with cash. However, going by volume of sales, cash went down to 48%. This means over half of the revenue was made with card payments, but these are mostly used to settle higher bills.

The average amount for which most people would definitely use cash is 67€. The average Amount for which people in most cases would use a card is 100€. Card payments are largely made with debit cards (girocard). Only 36% of germans own a credit card.

Contactless payments only constitute 1% of sales by volume. 80% of contactless payments are made with debit cards, 19% with credit cards.

Just as an example. I dont know the real numbers...
According to the Central Bank, about 74% of all payments are made with cash in Germany.

In regard to the overall turnover it's about 48% cash.

Hmmm. A few seconds too late. ;-)

Not immediately relevant for us, but finally ING is launching Apple Pay in Poland. So that's its first EU market... Could be a good sign, as ING NL has previously publicly showed interest and as far as I understand the current restructuring process means that each ING devision is more closely aligned with ING HQ in the Netherlands... ING DiBa will be rebranding to just ING soon so maybe, just maybe we might get them to Apple Pay in Germany at a later date!

I guess for ING this was due to pure necessity, not due to "love" for AP. Many banks support it in Poland and it is already a success there though it started only few moths ago.

I bet if more and more banks join in here ING DE will do so too due to the high pressure.

Think that too

Update of ing diba App. They included administration of cards...

Don’t say that its something to really think about it. But still „funny“

But no Wallet support.

More "speculation": Some PR guy with a seemingly credible Twitter page posted in a thread before (which I just can't find), that he had contact with someone who was using an app by a German insurance company via Testflight and it was focused around Apple Pay. He was told that product was due to launch in November. According to him it will have a cashback system and other perks, but will have a monthly subscription cost.

To me, if this is true, sounds a whole lot like Allianz Prime which is in cooperation with Wirecard/VISA and is currently being tested in Italy. In an article in the Handelsblatt I posted a while back (must have been April or May) an Allianz representative did say, that they were evaluating launching this payment app in Germany. Allianz is said to have some ambitions getting into the payment market in Europe, but specifically also Germany. According to screenshots (see below) it seems to be a credit card... Although the question remains if it is deferred debit (like with ING) or a revolving/charge card.
This might be the - prime - opportunity for Allianz (forgive the really bad pun).

True to the missing wallet support. But I think it would be an easy thing to hide that wallet button for apps until AP has been launched...
[doublepost=1538406366][/doublepost]But don’t want to say that ing diba is going to support AP and don’t want to say the start is kinda tomorrow or somewhat, just wanted to tell about the release and the maybe coincidence that they made something to their cars.

Funny detail. The app is listing cards I don’t have yet. My actual giro cards expire in December and there are new ones listed which expire in 2022
