Good luck trying to get sense out of Tesco @AaronG123 when it comes to Apple Pay.
I've tried a few times and they either:
a) Have no idea what I'm talking about
b) Claim that "the £30 limit is set by the banks and VISA and cannot be changed"

For anyone that shops at Aldi, without fail, I pay over £30 with Apply Pay almost every week even though the machines say up to £30 and the receipts say 'no cardholder verification'. It does work though!
I've yet to try ASDA over £30 though...

I want to see more of a rollout online and in-apps. In stores seems to be no bother for me, I pretty much use my phone everywhere now!

Out of interest how are you contacting T's with your Apple Pay over £30 query?

Facebook, Twitter etc?

As I work for them I'll do the same; obviously the social media teams will know so much but there must be someone higher up who can look into this.

I've just been contacting them through Twitter. If you know an email address to write to let me know!

I've used the link to ask as well, the more the merrier I think ;).

Definitely!

In my eyes Apple Pay = more secure = less fraud = less overhead costs.

Edit: downloaded the Clubcard app to keep a track on my points. My legacy loyalty card with barcode appeared as an option-means I can scan my card in Wallet. Won't get the 10% discount but that doesn't bother me-just need Apple Pay (like Walgreen's) and >£30 now!

Had an answer from Tesco, it seems the person writing the reply is either stupid or ignorant.

We are trialling this in some stores at the moment but, it is our policy to restrict the payment to £30 per transaction which also what the Banks do for contactless payments.

I specifically made the point about ApplePay not being subject to the £30 limit of contactless payments and if implemented correctly should be usable for all transactions.

These complaints are better off being sent to Apple rather than the retailers. Tesco displays the Apple Pay logo at many of their terminals which they should only do when accepting unlimited payment amounts - which they don't. Feedback can be given through http://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-pay.html and when I have done it I usually get a reply the same day and the issue is investigated. Apple cares about this.

I'll do the same re: IKEA then. They have the Apple Pay logo outside their stores but cap it at £30.00.

Better than some of their previous responses. Does it mean anything? Probably not.

Might give it a go myself now you've got it working.

Downloaded it the other week but wasn't available to Beta iOS users.

Edit: Apple Pay option is still missing. Ah well.

Have used the Shell app now a couple of times. They've updated it now so you don't need to scan the QR code. It recognises you're at a Shell filling station then asks what pump you're using. It's actually a pre-authorisation via Apple Pay and then corrects to the actual amount later.

Still feels very weird filling up and driving off - I'll get used to it though as it took a few times to be comfortable with the pay at pump systems. The app confirms the transaction total a few seconds after returning the hose nozzle to the pump. By the time you're back in the car it's usually showing up the amount on the pump's display & you then get an emailed receipt shortly after.

Still find it odd that Apple themselves aren't using Apple Pay on their website but it works well in most stores - although Amex can be a problem in some stores (asks for card insertion for Amex but other cards work fine).

One problem I occasionally have is that payment has happened with the default card while I'm trying to select an alternative, even if phone us a few cms from the card reader. I'll have to remember to only touch the home button once I've selected the card I want.

I got an Amex the other day, first time I used it in Asda it said contactless failed. Worked fine in Shell though.

Amex cards don't always work contactless for some reason, even when the retailer accepts it. It's frustrating. M&S are reliable and Boots works mostly for contactless but not always Apple Pay. WHSmith are also patchy. Of course there are some stores who don't accept Amex at all - Lego stores are one example. I think Amex's retailer fees are quite high. Also I find that some branches of Costa don't accept Amex even though they accept it as a rule - it might be related to some shops being a franchise. Apple Pay generally works well at Costa though.

I have a BA exec club card which I get Avios with. It's an expensive annual charge but the benefits are worth it, just as long as you know to have a backup card ready!

Yes AmEx tend to have higher merchant fees which is why a lot of places tend to not accept it still. I think B&Q is one such place.

In my old job we had the "ironing board" to do a copy of the card if the tills/network went down.

My Boss said AmEx were always dead slow to process the vouchers and send the payment.

The true test is to spend over £30 and see what happens :p
I'll let you be the ginuea pig haha; in theory just entering an amount of food totalling to £30 should give it a way - as contactless symbol wouldn't appear ;). Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to test though

It might vary restaurant to restaurant but the McDonald's at Markeaton Island has stickers on the self-service machines and at the POS saying contactless/Apple Pay is ok under £30.

Haven't been in for a few weeks so that might've changed.

There's a pub opposite Tesco in Mickleover (Flamin' Grill) has Verified by Consumer Device on their receipts so next time I spend more than £30 in there I'll try it :)

Anyone know if HMV do over £30? My receipt today for £16 said

"Consumer device verification
Contactless"

Does that mean it does or does it not mean anything?

At the moment I'd imagine it's open for interpretation. Can't remember who I used last year. Similar message on my receipt but Apple Pay was capped at £30.

*If* HMV are >£30 it's a shame their website (as yet) doesn't support it.

Odd thing at the weekend. Took some trousers back to M&S as they didn't fit (length not expanded waistline!). Handed over receipt and for some reason, as I'd used Apple Pay, the last 4 digits of the card that are shown on the receipt were different to the card I used (different to any card in my wallet in fact). I had to get my refund in a credit voucher instead. Not a major problem but something to bear in mind, presumably due to tokenisation?
