Sainsbury's is definitely over £30 as when I use it at the 'Local' stores it states verified by consumer device on the receipt.

This was at a self checkout in a larger store

Hmmm. I'll call into Sainsbury's in the morning at The Wyvern in Derby and try it myself.

Have used PayQwiq for the first time; was great as it enables me to get my 10% discount but still prefer Apple Pay.

Edit: Sainsbury's on The Wyvern still don't have contactless.

I'm not sure if that one is true unfortunately!

We have the latest scanners which can scan device screens and we often scan clubcards within Apple Wallet but on the tills there is no function to take payment via PayQwik.

That's the opposite to what I said.

If a till supports PQ then you can definitely scan a device screen with a Clubcard.

Not: if you can scan a device screen with a Clubcard then it definitely supports PQ.

I'll do the same next time I'm in Heanor town centre.

I feel like a right idiot... could never understand why I couldn't scan my Clubcard on some of the older self service machines in Tesco.

Turns out when you're ready to do it you need to choose Clubcard on the screen then scan the barcode. D'oh!

I've never experienced one where you have to do this

The only times it has worked for me is on the readers at BP which are those weird things with the chip on the side and the Verifone ones.

Generally Amex works at the larger M&S & Costa branches. Think they use Verifone readers. The M&S ones have such a good range that I'll have paid before the phone is on the device - which is a problem if I haven't chosen the right card! I need to learn to take my thumb off the home button until I'm on the right card. (Think I was too ambitious to say before that Apple Pay remembers the card in an M&S store - didn't test my theory properly!)

Paying with Amex at an Asda self service machine on Friday caused it to crash. My own fault for going to Asda maybe?

Sorry for the mis-read there @JaJaWa.

The frustrating thing is that since PQ exists, Tesco are far less likely to invest the time and money into developing the automatic loyalty card selection so that we just pay via Apple Pay and receive the points.

I scanned my Clubcard at the Loughborough Extra store last Monday morning as they have the older tills rather than the ones which have been upgraded ready for PayQwiq.

The store at Heanor also has the older set of self service machines and wouldn't read my Clubcard barcode at all.

However the store I work in (and the Extra at Ilkeston) both have the newer machines and I can scan my Clubcard from the lock screen without needing to press the Clubcard button on the POS.

Used Apple Pay at Esso last night to pay for £50 worth of fuel, guy seemed to expect it to work as well which is a bonus

I'll try the Esso garage (operated by Euro Garages) at Markeaton Island next time I'm in Derby and see if they're Apple Pay ready.

Given their fuel prices at the moment it shouldn't be too difficult to spend over £30!

A lot of places take Amex contactless but not Amex via Apple Pay.

Does anyone know why?

What kind of errors do you get when this happens?

If it's something on the terminal like "no supported applications", then I would blindly guess the terminal is only configured to match the full AMEX AID which is on cards of A000000025010801. AMEX Apple Pay uses a different AID A000000025010901. The terminals need to be reconfigured with the AMEX base AID of A00000002501 and enable partial AID matching for AMEX.

More of just the double beep situation and then 'insert card'. It's never worked in Tesco for me but my Visa and MasterCard work fine via Apple Pay?

To be honest I've found when I've used my physical AmEx card (issued by Lloyds Bank) it tends to allow contactless payments once then when it comes to using it again I have to insert my card and enter my PIN.

Can't vouch for Apple Pay via AmEx in my store as Lloyds insist on verification as a phone call-last time I added it they said I should be able to add the card to my Watch via SMS afterwards; needless to say it asked me to call again!

I'm not sure how the Lloyds Bank Amex's work - do you call Lloyds or Amex for customer service?

I can tap away endlessly it seems using the physical contactless in most places but Amex via Apple Pay is a bit more picky!

Just paid £37 at Shell used Amex Apple Pay, all worked

Shell is a winner with Apple Pay, never have any issues. Now if only we could have a digital Shell Card!
