Went into the Sainsbury's at Kingsway, Derby this morning. Not a local one, a full sized supermarket and they now take contactless payment. Did not try it because the bill was more than £30.
I will try it next week.

Tut tut-you should be paying a visit to the Tesco in Mickleover (where I work ;-).

Traitor, haha!

I some times do go in Tesco at Mickleover because they sell 4 bottles of beer for £6, I cannot stand that tinned *****.

Never tastes nice out of the tin!

I try and avoid Kingsway in the morning after finishing a night-shift but am in Derby Friday sometime so I'll see if the Sainsbury's within the Eagle Centre is contactless or not.

I see B&Q are behind the times at Langley Mill... still Chip & PIN :-S.

Called into Sainsbury's at Kingsway this morning and notice their receipts say Cardholder Device Verified-hopefully that'll mean transactions >£30!

Edit: contacted them (via Facebook) and Apple Pay is capped at £30.

Seems like another example of incompetence in training staff on contactless/device payments because they've previously said on Twitter that Apple Pay is not capped...

I'll go into store tomorrow and spend £30 and report back. I've also noticed the CDV message on the receipts.

Regarding general contactless acceptance at Sainsbury's, most of the large stores in Edinburgh now have it enabled.

And on Waitrose.. I'm sure I recently spent over £30 there and used Apple Pay. However, it could be the case that it was over £30 before discounts (was using Quick Check).

Not had a chance to go further back through the thread so they might have been mentioned but Ikea and Clarks don't cap at £30.

The IKEA near Nottingham wasn't >£30 last October for Apple Pay so it's good to see they've updated their systems for HVP at long last.

Yes it has been handy for me recently as I've been purchasing quite a bit there. This is at Edinburgh and I assume it's the same nationwide.

When I'm feeling up to it I'll pay a visit (live 10 minutes from IKEA Nottingham) and report back.

Don't like shopping there as I'm an impatient person and hate people standing in the aisles looking at stuff, haha.

I never visit at the weekend for similar reasons. I'm also about 10 minutes away so at least it's easy to get to.

I've not made it to Sainsbury's today but I did go to Waitrose this afternoon and...

I am VERY surprised, I have asked Waitrose via Twitter and email several times regarding the issue. The first time they said there was NO limit, but when trying it for just over £30 it failed, tried several times with no success. I complained about it and was told that they no longer accept it for over £30. From time to time I asked again, but they always say that £ 30 is the limit. It seems it is just another case of bad communication within their offices.

Absolutely. Then when a customer enquiries, gets told it's capped at £30, and you then find out you could've spent more... it's the business that loses out.

As I've said before nothing is ever going to be 100% secure but more companies need to realise that Apple Pay is safer than a physical card; they need to start thinking of how beneficial it is people are using biometrics to confirm payment and therefore reducing fraud and subsequently charge backs.

Why are things like this so complicated?! When did you last attempt it?

I'm rarely having to pull out my card these days so I'm pretty happy with Apple Pay, would like the big supermarkets to allow >£30 but that day will come eventually, I just really wish there was some movement on the loyalty card front. Does anyone have any news?

You could always submit feedback to Tesco if you have Clubcard in your Wallet?

The app is meant to show it on your lock screen when you're near to a saved store but it doesn't work; have emailed them and they replied saying they'd pass it on-hopefully the next release will see that added.

Have been in a few shops today whilst visiting Derby-WH Smith and Sports Direct also have CDV on their receipts so I'd imagine Apple Pay for £30 and higher can be used there.

I used Apple Pay for £42 in Frankie and benny's last week. The waitress didn't know you could use contactless above £30 but it worked fine.

I also used it in my local subway (ovs less than £30) today which was good as until recently they were cash only!

I was in Sainsbury's today and chose a self checkout next to someone making a large purchase who'd just finished scanning and had card in hand. Perfect, I thought, will find out whether the limit does apply. They then got a load of coupons out which brought total under £30  :D

I *might* visit Sainsbury's next week and have a go; according to a poster on the MSE forums she spent over £30 in a Sainsbury's and Apple Pay worked.

I say *might* as they've recently announced a raft of job losses and that really annoys me because they had the money to purchase Argos so I'm sure they've got the money to keep staff employed!

I have been using Apple Pay at my local Sainsbury's since they went contactless in January but today I had a bill over £50. The assistant thought it wouldn't work over £30 but I tried anyway and it did. Receipt showed Cardholder Device Verified.

Am wondering if Tesco are following suit.

Only saying this as I used the self service machine at my store this morning and they've changed the wording before you start scanning.

Says something like "Start Scanning" and "Weigh Own Bag" now-will try later on in the week and report back.

I popped to Argos last night for a new blender, £24.99. They had the contactless-capable Ingenico card readers that many places have so I asked to pay by contactless and they didn't have it enabled. I was amazed as I just assumed they'd have it enabled by now. I tweeted them to ask when they were planning to accept contactless payments and was told that they have "no dates for this happening at the moment". It amazes how slow some companies are to enable basic contactless, never mind limitless Apple Pay. I understood why Tesco took so long (lot of time and money to replace the old chip and PIN machines) and bravo to them because all of my local stores are enabled now but when a company already has the tech (Argos) and just needs to most likely flip a switch (probably more than that like firmware or whatever) then I don't understand what the problem is.

Is this Argos on Apple Maps? If so is it listed as accepting Apple Pay?

I only ask as the Heanor Store has this:

Last time I was in Argos they had old card pre-contactless readers so I wonder if they're rolling out the new ones before switching on contactless.

I believe part of the reason for the delay at Sainsbury's was updating point of sale system. Could be the same at Argos.
